Hi there, I just came across your vedio today and I want to ask is it possible for me to study masters in interior design and architecture with a degree in bachelor of art (international and intercultural management ). Will I be missing out a lot from not starting with the undergraduate? Your feedback will be so helpful. Thanks

If you're able to find a school that offers the Masters without a bachelor's in Design as a prerequisite then go on ahead! The information may be more condensed but it'll be enough to start a career in design.

Loveeeeeeee this video , very informative. I was just looking at SCAD for interior design. I’m currently a Decorator for a Furniture store but I’m ready to start my career in something i love and i thought this would be a starting point by working here but i need more background information so i want to go to school. The only thing is my schedule is VERY busy and Savannah Georgia is hours away from me but i really want to attend that school. I was thinking about taking interior design classes online but I’m honestly scared being as though interior design is sooo hands on & im more of a visual learner so being face to face makes it easier to learn but again the distance and my schedule.. do you have any suggestions as far as online classes for interior design? Would it be ideal to take them online?

sc o2_ Hey! I’m not the original poster but I’m a second year architecture student and I’d say it’s actually not heavy on math at all! It does depend on your school’s program, but some of the upper level construction classes will require advanced math prerequisites but the actual class never uses math that’s too complex. I would say that your ability to solve problems 3-dimensionally and visualize the experience of being inside of what you’re designing as well as visual communication skills and perseverance are more important than if you’re good at math or not. I’m currently in hospitality: hotel management and event management school and thinking of switching to interior architectural design but I am super duper nervous. Main concern is if I’ll be good enough since math and numbers are not my strong suit. 😪😓

Hahaha...It's not that much math. Just adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. No algebra or calculus, just stuff to help you figure out how big a room is and how much of something you'll need for that room.

Thank you so much for explaining the difference between interior designer and interior decorator!! Very few people (including interior decorators who call themselves interior designers) understand this. A designer is very much like an architect.

Excellent video! I knew some of what you talked about, but you dropped a lot of gems. I used to think I wanted to be an interior designer, however, after learning that there was a difference between designers and decorators, and learning what those differences were, I realized I wanted to be a decorator. Thanks for sharing!

Your video has really given me the support that i need right now, i have a degree in psychology but it just was not working out for me and up until now i was very skeptical about if i should actually go ahead with my plan b, i.e interior design. Mainly i am getting into it because i always had my interests in interior decoration but i wanna get into the dept of it and, right now i am starting to get a gist of what interior design is and i legit feel 10 times better, you really have simplified so many things in your video. Lots of love! This is the first video of yours that i have seen and i am a fan, truly!

I really love this video. I will say, you do not have to be a good decorator to be a good designer, I know many amazing designers who are no skilled in decorating.

I sent them this video! I've also seen many student drop out of this major because it's not what they imagined (HGTV).

Thank you for this explanation! I have loved designing spaces since I was in high school. I have literally carried a pad of graph paper with me since high school (18 years and counting......e'hem, lol.) I have no good reason why I never took the plunge and went to school for it, other than I listened to well meaning people that didn't know how in demand designer AND decorators are...but I do. So, I am researching my options.

I needed this. I was about to drop my Architecture degree and bite the bullet to be a nurse. This is basically everything I want in a job. I always went on job sites with my Dad when he was a block Mason. My favorite memory was of him letting me look at the blueprints and imagining where everything was going. ❤️❤️❤️

I’ve always loved maths and art. Interior design was the perfect option for me. I’m in my first year and I love it so much. We have already learnt so much about colour psychology and the elements and principles of design. We are currently learning CAD but it’s so difficult cause we are in temporary online learning in Australia

This video is definitely reassuring!! I am currently a student at Florida State (GO NOLES) and I am scheduled to graduate Spring 2021. My current major is criminal justice, and though I love it, I feel like my heart is not really in it and it is something that I am going to get tired of over time. I've been wanting to transition into interior design after doing extensive research but felt as though it was a little too late for me, being that I am graduating soon. Your videos, along with several others and encouraged me to take the leap of faith. I don't know exactly what my next step is going to be but I am excited for my future. Thank you!!

You give me confidence. im going to attend Sheridan college where I will be taking an interior decorating course. after that, I plan to get a degree in interior design at Ryerson University, and then I want to get a master's degree at SCAD. so many people have discouraged me and told me that im kidding my self, or that im not being realistic, that I should do something more secure like law, I really started to doubt myself, but this video just helped me gain my confidence back. thank you so much💕

I’m going to be a junior and I have a lot of ideas in mind for my future... a lot that my mom doesn’t support and only one that she does like (art themed) I’m not too keen on becoming a graphic designer although I don’t mind it because I do like making art. I’ve been looking through websites for ideas and I found interior design! I love designing things and it’s so satisfying to look at a room or a building and say you love it! I’ll definitely keep interior design as a possibility

Thank you this was super reassuring! I just got my bachelor’s in photography in May and I was planning to be a photography teacher but I don’t really want to do that anymore and I’ve been interested in interior design since I was a freshman so I’ve been kind of regretting not doing interior design instead so it’s reassuring to hear that interior design wasn’t the first degree you or many others got!

I study interior design in Ireland I needed a portfolio as well as a full leaving cert to get in, it was intense. Just a PSA for those not living in America, plus my college is the only college that offers this course so it's pretty strict. But i love it!
