I love this, I've been debating about starting school and recently learned I wasn't getting any aid. I thought about just staring my studio anyway... which I'm doing. My background is in accounting but the price tag for school is too much. I applied for a dual Master's but got into one program. I decided to start the studio and eventually get my Associate's in design. I appreciate all of the information you've shared about school and this part of your journey now. You are definitely shining a light of the path of reality!

I always thought “interior design” was very different than an “interior decorator.” My understanding is that a designer does need the degree because they do blue prints, electrical and lighting plans, etc. Designers are just like architects and require the famous “seal” to practice and get licensed and insured. Decorators, however, can be self-taught. Since you already have a well-rounded degree (communications) from a solid, reputable non-profit college (FSU), you should be good to go working in interior decorating/design with your knowledge. Clearly you have the experience and artistic flair. I would love to hear where you can take up in-depth sketch-up classes without 3 semesters of CAD. I am sure you will be outstanding in the field. I find it hard to believe that many of these famous designers we hear so much about actually have interior design degrees in the field. My guess is that many have art backgrounds or communications like you. Love, love your channel!

I remember watching your videos before I went back to school for interior design, and now I'm finally on the other side of it. I think the last couple of years of my education were nowhere near as informative as what I learned in my internship and in the field. School definitely gives you valuable information, but at the end of the day, a degree is only going to take you so far. The rest is up to you! Onwards and upwards :)

This was so informative. I have a BA in Art History, worked in corporate for 20 years and wanted to go into Interior Design at 54, but didn’t want go into debt for another $40k+. I wound up taking the online diploma option. That option with utilizing my skills from corporate work have worked out great!

Because it sounded like you were doing a good job of highlighting the nuances and benefits of both and you have been able to launch your career even without the full 4 years of schooling... so that's where my mind goes to maybe a shorter schooling option? I have always love interior design and i took an online class with New Skills Academy in 2020 which i got a certified for after I’m done. But they are theoretical training. Thank you
