I ran a 89 466. It was turned up. Was a spicer 5 spd with a two speed ass end. Made a kids eyes as big as saucers at a bus stop out front of the police station letting the clutch out in second almost stalling it and rugging it. It blew a mushroom cloud of smoke lmao

That's a very clean swap. Would like to see more of this old international. I'm looking at swapping an idi 7.3 for a 466b in a 1988 s1654LP

Thank-you. I hope to do get more videos made. This year will be the finishing touches to refurbishment. A Eaton RTX11609B transmission is soon to go in, the higher torque of this engine has rapidly killed the Spicer CM-5552 in it now. A new double wall aluminum dump box is under construction. Putting some hydraulics at rear of frame for powered accessories, etc. This is a live and kickin work truck, not a show vehicle. Just curious. Why do you want to put a 7.3 in place of a 466B? If your truck is a worker, the 466 is infinitely better. If its tired, or dead, do an inframe/complete overhaul on it, change the American Bosch rotary pump out to an MW100 or P7100 pump. Enjoy. But nothing at all wrong with what you want to put in it.

@@bluedogsalvage5246 You have an awesome build I definitely will subscribe and watch this space for your rig. Im looking forward to see that big Eaton box get under there too! Excuse me I meant I was swapping out the 7.3 that's in mine to put in a dt466b. Really just wanting a true medium duty engine. I would like to do a MW, or P pump eventually, but it looks like I may be stuck with the rotoray until I can get this rig to earn some income. I'm mostly pulling a 40 gooseneck car hauler with it, but I have some dozers and equipment to haul around too.. The 7.3 runs sweet, but most times its in a strain when loaded.... Im not looking looking peel up the pavement, or tow 30k pounds uphill at 85 mph, but I do need some power to get moving with traffic and merging and stuff. I have 4.33 in the back and the Spicer 5 speed at the moment, but I am leaning towards maybe an RTO 6610 for it.

@@brandonjackson8554 , the time to do a pump swap on this engine is before putting it in. Just good access. The MW100 is good for fuel delivery to 270 hp, cores can be bought for a couple hundred, completely rebuilt I've seen for $450 to $700 on Ebay. You'll need the lines, drive gears, and a different timing cover(there are both mechanical and electric tach timing covers). Cautionary tale here for you to make life simple. Buy the entire donor truck, then junk what you don't want when done. You'll end up with some valuable spare parts. The front engine cradle, cradle adapter plates, complete intake to turbo, radiator frame mount and radiator are unique parts matching each native engine application. You'll have to build a tunnel in the cab floor to accommodate the mile long 6 cylinder and new tranny location. All the holes for the rear engine mounts will already be in frame. Good luck, have fun!

Very nice engine. Exactly the setup I want. I have a 85 S1700 crew cab with air brakes and a DT360. Just found an early DT466. Would like to do some upgrades before I install it. I have a P7100 core and was thinking about having it rebuilt but maybe the MW pump will be better for what I can see in the comments. I am near Tampa FL. Good to see someone from this FL area with a nice DT466, most other videos are from up north. Thanks for the transmission upgrade info.

P7100 is a fine pump for a DT466C. Keep in mind there are left and right rotation variants, so be very sure of what you have, changing rotation is basically a full rebuild with the correct cam. If you want to build more power than 270hp, you'll have to go with the P pump with the appropriate size for your power demand. Early model engines, except the low power units, all came with the rotary pumps. Changing to a MW100 or P7100 is not hard, but you need the parts to adapt them. All of these engines models are fine, but there's no comparison to the very late model C engines. Good luck with your project.

I'm wanting to remove the 404 gas from my 76'loadstar tilt hood to install a 466 out of a 81or83 1900s cab wondering if you have any information

Nice piece! What are you running for a turbo and are you running an EGT? I have a 210hp DT466C with an MW pump that I would like to get closer to 270hp.

I am using OEM spec turbos. Garrett is the supplier, but Borg Worner was a secondary supplier. 1817311C91 is one of the turbos with a 1.15 A/R. Call Ryan at Boost Lab, 18134430531. These are out of production, but he's been able to find them NOS for me. They can also help you pick out something else if you know the parameters of what you want the engine to do, and how you want the turbo to deliver. I don't get anything from them but but good service/ value, but mention the referral comes from Clint @ Blue Dog Salvage in Largo Florida. You're going to need to add a charge air cooler, unless you plan on driving empty with no load. Put the loud switch to the floor with a good load and you'll have excessive EGT, and between 1000 and 1200 on highway cruise without it. The correct MW100 injection pump is a must. The 240 hp and higher pumps are a bit different than the lower hp models. A used or rebuilt unit 240 and higher pump is just some rack and fuel adjustments. MWs were standard on all 466C models except the low power model's, but 269.5 hp was all it could deliver. Something to note here. If you get above the 240 hp mark and really working the truck, you should consider a bigger transmission, even possibly a better final drive. At 270hp, each of my trucks destroyed the standard Spicer CM-5552 5 speeds. One small shaft 2 speed diff. And one AT545 automatic. I've been using the RT11609s in my upgraded trucks. They need air, so if you don't have it, you'll have to rig up a small electric compressor to work the hi-lo selector. Good luck, enjoy.

What does your truck top out at for full boost?
@bluedogsalvage5246

At full fuel, was 61 mph with the old Spicer CM52D Trans. With a better Eaton RTO11609 it can get 86. The final drive is a 4.84

Oh, sorry I meant what boost pressure do you see at full load/throttle? I have a dt466c with a Borg Warner S2E turbo and a MW pump. I don’t have the rack set right out, but fairly far. It makes about 25-26psig at full bongo. I have a 10speed roadranger behind mine - I replaced the same model of spicer.
