Big thank you for making it quick and to the point. Was stumped on why the cluster wouldn't come out. Thanks for showing the metal tabs at the top! Big help!

Don’t have to pull the trim or mess with the steering column. Done this repair 3 or 4 times. 1 time it ended up being a loose plug. Bent the pins for more contact and if fixed it. Great video JC

I have fixed these where others have tried and failed . You need some good Electroics flux to reflow and fix these everytime . If you look most of the traces are under the connector the flux and solder when heated enough you will see it get sucked through the Via to the trace on the underside of the connector.. Use 60/40 Leaded Solder and good Electronics Flux and you should never have to do this again.. The Lead Free Solder the Manufactuer used will crack from heat and in this case vibration.. It also Will Not Flow like Leaded Solder and it makes a dull gray chicken sh%t looking situation that looks like a cold solder joint ! No Matter how Hot you get it ! I Really enjoy watching you work on your projects the Pride you put into and the Quality of your Work is Out Standing !👍

Wish I would have had this 2 years ago. I have a 4900 that was driving me nuts. Finally got it fixed (3 attempts) and it was all due to that green connector. Great video JC, keep up the good work.

I’ve learned you don’t have to pull the trim. Take a flat blade and put down on the top two pins of the cluster along with the 2 screws on bottom and it comes out no problem.
@CaptKirk17012 жыл бұрын
They make a solution that has flux and solder pellets in it, you put on the areas and use a heat gun. Been thinking about getting some, looks handy.

Hey I'm watch you're video on the international truck about z blue wire being added and the ground you jumped to start it . I have a International school bus it's a 1997 t444e 3800 / 7.3 and I'm having problems. I wanted to ask you as for as different years , the panel or they the same ? My bus is at a school and I'm going there to day and back track the work that was done (supposed) I had to get 2 batteries I'm getting power to the 2 / 15 Amp fuses but I'm not getting lights on the dash except the glow plug light works. Oh I was told I needed ecm/idm but I do not believe that and reason why is I hooked a scanner and it said I had things working so that being said Im hoping it will be something easy. Anyway I'm going to try today I'm to get her running ! Fingers crossed . And thank you for sharing your videos with us it helps more than you'll ever know Mr.Smith

The first 2 stick MACK I ever drove had a non working gauge package. 10x20 tube tire on one side 11r22.5 tires on the other. No AC and Armstrong steering. It was a Yard truck that everyone should have to drive at least once. It had a red a yellow and a blue air brake button. And no shift diagram.

Hi JC. Can i ask you something? Do you happen to have a relative by the name of Sean Smith? He's a Boeing aircraft Engineer. He now lives in South Carolina.(just bought the property and moved there recently.) He was previously station in Japan for maybe about 3 to 4 years and just came back to the states. Thanks.

FYI there are 2 rows or switches on the top of the cluster and there should be a code sticker to tell you how to set them to work correctly, have seen them off and make the cluster not work.

I've never taken all that trim off or the steering column. I just pull the gray top piece off and the two bottom screws pop it out

Hey JC have you ever swapped a non tilt wheel to a tilt ? Can this be done on those 4700-4900 trucks?
@j.c.smithprojects2 жыл бұрын
i dont see why not.

I have a 2000 4700 and the Brake Pressure ight beeper has been going off. The first time it happened the electronic cylinder in the shifter locked up at the same time. I took that out so I could get it in gear and have been driving the truck. Its not an air brake truck its hydraulic. Light and beeper come on in traffic with foot on the brake pedal a lot. Is this another common electrical problem for 4700? Thanks for the gauges fix!
@j.c.smithprojects Жыл бұрын
why didnt you investigate the light instead of over riding the safety equipment? that light is suppose to come on when you dont have sufficient hydraulic pressure in the booster to run the hydraulic power assist effectively. stop driving the truck and figure it out before it fails completely and hurts someone..

The best practise for dry joints is to remove as much of the old solder first with either a solder sucker or solder braid, clean area with IPA and a small stiff nylon brush ( e.g. toothbrush ) to remove flux residue etc and then resolder.

Great video! Covers the topic without any extra yapping, which is rare. Good camera angle and sound quality except for the actual soldering section, some closer views during work would be helpful. I know this isn't a "how to solder" video, but more info on the type of solder used and the temperature range would also help, especially with respect to maximum temp to avoid damage. And ffs where's the rest of the video? That's just mean!

adding solder will make that part of the solder track stronger, and probably prevent a future brake.
