Katie was such a cutie. Tom entertained me as a 15 yr old. In 1978. One of the best ever bands of that time period. There were so many then. Unlike today.

Playing an old classic on live national tv instead of the current single you would expect, is exactly what The Last DJ represented. Yeah, they're still promoting by being there. But it's almost sarcastic and intentional to play a near 40 year old song while they're there. If the show producer really did suggest it, he/she probably gets it and is a fan!

Beautiful! Love this song and love the lyrics. Interview was very funny, didn’t realize what a great sense of humor Tom Petty had. It would be nice to hear this song at the Fleetwood Mac concert. Stevie also sings this fabulous song , ‘I Need To Know’🙃😜✌️🦆

You gotta check out tom petty radio on Sirius. He does host some segments (some 350 episodes I think) where he plays cool jams he likes, and full of his deadpan, obscure and silly stoner commentary and jokes. It's like he's still here with us.

My friend brought over some new records. New music. The album had just come out that week. That was when we had djs that played what they liked. It gained done air play and away they went. I had no idea how prolific and enduring they would become. But driving around at 16 with American girl blasting, singing along as loud as possible, well these songs reflect our lives.

The original 'Drum Loop' laid, 'by me' (James Lewis) for the original recording of this song.. is , in my opinion ... the baddest ass groove of all TP songs... yea , it is... It was 16 bars of me whacking open hi hat and slammin snare drum.. to just the right 'Human Tempo'.. onto two track machine ... ( Drumstick on mic stand..holding tape reel across the room to machine... then transferred to 2 inch tape big machine for 4 minutes.. Then all other tracks laid over, etc...But 'Core Groove' I laid ... set it all up... Real hard to dilute or get away from that 'BAD ASS GROOVE I LAID... Thank you very much !!!

They're on FIRE here, ... but as usual, Network TV turns the volume down too low on Tom's mic/vocals, so the lyrical verses can't be heard quite as easily. I guess they didn't like Tom using the ghastly phrase "dancing naked" during his intro very much.

I don't know why this bothers me, but I think this gig pre-dates his marriage. I was very moved by his bio, and more than ever feel that people's privacy should be honoured. If you love this artist's music; celebrate it as people do, by adapting it to your own life; it's how it gets passed on.

James Lewis whether or not you were the drummer, Steve Ferrone, a fabulous drummer, did not really get the feel correct here. Ferrone always plays square correct beats. Like a Swiss watch. The hit recording was quite a lot different.

dont know why it still bothers me but some damn fool wrote he was flirting with her. 1. plastic hair and complete ignorance of his music; 2. just married the love of his life Dana. Fans are exactly what that word means; fanatics. Leave the man alone, especially now that he is no longer on this earth; he did more than most to aspire to the sky.

@carolynwilson2206 Жыл бұрын
Just my opinion, but Tom's voice was a million times better than the "sacred" Mr. Dylan. When Bob sang it was so difficult what words he was singing. Tom Petty's singing gave so much expression to the words.
