In the second round of my unstable draft, I was playing against the daughter of the owner of the store where it was held. She played Spike, Tournament Grinder, then borrowed her dad's vintage deck, and used Spike's ability to pull Time Walk out of it. On the Time Walk turn, she used the Spike ability two more times to get Voltaic Key (banned in Modern!) and Time Vault, and I didn't get another turn that game. Died to a boatload of Squirrels.

1. Mark is such a wonderful guy! 2. I think he made a deal with a mischievous genie for long life, and the genie tricked Mark by speeding him up so that he'd live several lifetimes in the span of just one regular lifetime.

That feeling when I had 6 Blurry Beebles in my first draft deck and would have gone 3-0 if it weren't for my second opponent going to his car to get a pair of 3D movie glasses...
@benjaminkennedy7156 жыл бұрын
DesolateZombie it when ever you cast it you they cant response by putting on glasses
@DesolateZombie6 жыл бұрын
Benjamin Kennedy the text reads Blurry (This creature can be blocked only if defending player was wearing glasses as it was cast.) He didn't respond by putting on glasses randomly. He had a bye so he sat and watched. Once he realized that I was probably going to be his next opponent, he went to his car and got his 3D glasses to wear for all of our games. Once he won the set, I asked if we could play a game without him wearing the glasses. He obliged and I won very quickly.
@broshmosh6 жыл бұрын
Did nobody at your draft pool just... *wear glasses*?
@DesolateZombie6 жыл бұрын
Broshmosh Nope. Only person who wore glasses in the pod was my best friend from elementary school who came to visit before the holidays. He subsequently screwed me by genuinely not liking squirrels and not compromising his morals when I asked him for the "Do you like squirrels?" Trigger.

Unstable was fantastic! Looking forward to the next one, which should be in another six years. Don't be forced to make one every year or every two years, it'll lose its charm.
@bryennorth76916 жыл бұрын
Rosewater has said the fastest he would want to make Un-Sets is once every 4 years. I think 4-6 is plenty reasonable, and I almost think we'd all prefer it not be a set amount of time between the Un-Sets, keep it unpredictable.
@ashleykitchin9766 жыл бұрын
Questionable Edicts Seeing how popular the set was I fear the suits will force another to be released sooner. Like with Masters sets. 4 Within 2 years. Thanks for sharing Mark's statement I wasn't aware.
@bryennorth76916 жыл бұрын
Yes but with Masters Sets, there's no reason more shouldn't get made quickly, whereas something like Un-Sets needs 1: Creative to work on it as well as Design. 2: Rosewater would explain he needs some buffer time between them to accumulate good ideas. 3: It needs new art for each card like a traditional set, that alone should take a year. It's always possible executives with too much power and too little sense will try and force something, but I would hope those making the game like Mark can explain how that can be counter-intuitive to the goal of Making Maximum Money.

my favorit mechanic i want added is a triple strike to do damage with first and last strike. so for example if you got a 2/2 if it battles another 2 power creature it dies. if it battles say a 1/4 it can kill it and if somehow it fights a 1/6 it kills it so it cant defeat a 2/2 but a 1/6? no problem. to me its just a really cool thing. plus it really punishes people for letting it through because its not a 2 damage its not 4 its 6.

Hey, so I went to the Grand Prix New Jersey and did an Unstable draft on Sunday morning. I was in draft pod 1 and there were 2 pods at our table, I cast Gimme Five, my opp was like "oh no!" And like it was fun so I get out of my seat and proceed to go down the unstable draft pod giving high fives and like, it's cool cause for some reason people get pumped for no reason just giving high fives, I get up to 10 high fives when one of the judges for the Unstable drafts, but dude came from an area not playing unstable, comes up to me and proceeds to stop me, I'm like ignoring him cause I have a timer and he doesn't speak english and like nerd rage and his broken english has me not remembering the situation well but I think I said what the f... I'm on a timer... and the judge told me I am not allowed to leave my seat when playing gimme five. And I argued cause like I'm on vacation and playing Unstable and he is making no sense... But I walk back to my seat and the dude follows me all the way to my chair like I'm some autistic kid in elementary school and he's the paraeducator... I only know this cause I was a paraeducator and worked with autistic kids with other paraeducators for a year in 2014... Anyways, point of this story is, according to the magic Judges, it is up to the Judge's descretion whether or not a player is allowed to leave their seat when playing high five... I think the Judge Program, as is, is a real problem for the Magic: The Gathering brand. Someone at Hasbro might want to considered absorbing the good judges and making the Judge Program a part of Hasbro cause like out here in the Sacramento area, I've drafted like kitchen table style with one particular judge who I've seen on camera judging the finals of like SCG Oakland back when Khans was out and the dude straight up attempted to cheat me multiple times cause cheating is fun or something, ie he has autism... (Oh yeah, my thesis documentary at NYU was asbergers syndrome back in 2007... Judges probably shouldn't be too far on the Autism Spectrum imo, foreign judge felt like some grown kid I paraeducated was like picking on me...) But yeah, asked Channel Fireball for my money back. The head judge for the unstable tourny in a doctor mario jacket seemed embarrassed that judge did that when I asked of I am allowed to get up during gimme five, but he defended the ruling saying this is unstable so judges can rule differently. But damn, talk about beong embarrased for no reason. Won't do anouther unstable draft at a GP again, can't handle the ahole party crasher judges lurking out there...
@1mrGhost6 жыл бұрын
Just about the trample on spells thing... According to the judge reddit page its simply because trample is only defined on creatures. As in the rules for trample specify creatures and not damage delt by spells or creatures... And that is apparently the reason why trample does not work on spells...

so he did the rules? Then can he please explain More Or Less? We had THREE judges and THE ENTIRE store debate their rules. For example, when casting a spell, then can I make their spell cast for 1 more before casting. Then what happens to their card?
@charcharmunr6 жыл бұрын
I'd assume yes, you can, because More or Less resolves before the spell it targets does. If they can pay that cost, they then have to as they have already cast it. If they can't, I guess it just fizzles?

New world order has been a damper on creative card design (especially for commons) for too long and I'm glad that Maro's team could breathe new life into this set. I just wish that some of these cards were black boarder-ed for commander!
@TheJohtaja6 жыл бұрын
*only for commons
@Duranous16 жыл бұрын
That is not correct, there are many implications of "new world order" and only one of them is "commons are vanilla." The idea relates to all sorts of design and mechanic limitations on sets, for example no sets can deal with but -1 and +1 counters at the same time. There is a strict limit of non evergreen mechanics that can exist in a set, like why metalcraft is technically not in Kaladesh (even though it functionally is). The fact of the matter is that "new player experience" is a highly valued aspect of all standard sets in all aspects of design.
@TheJohtaja6 жыл бұрын
No, those are just other aspects of modern Magic design. New World Order is coined by MaRo and as such only concerns the complexity of cards at common rarity. NWO means nothing more. He has stated this numerous times. Note I'm not trying argue against your points per se, just against using NWO to describe the whole. (Me disagreeing with your points would be another conversation. Like how modern magic design is better without necessarily being more complex.)

Bad beats were more just, everyone is looking at me being scolded by a judge, dude barely spoke english so like I even think I said "maybe learn to speak english better because I have no idea what ypu are saying to me as he was walking me back explaining why I am not allowed to get out of my seat while playing gimme five. I just respect judges now like I respect other humans but like I'm probably be on the let the program die and support Hasbro absorbing that trash pile that it is now. Also, no commons for sale at GPs? Barely any uncommons... Like people should be avle to go to GP's and buy a magic deck.... not the case and the vendors are mostly all aholes... just stunting any growth these grand prix could produce in player base and it feels like that is the intent cause like, "sealed product speculation" or something. Mark is toxic to MTG community. I believe it's him that has been instrumental in all that's happened to Jeremy @ unsleeved media and other similar players who have done NOTHING wrong. His SJW bullshit has ruined and divided the magic community. Him and others @ wizards are responsible for all the crappy things that have happened from 2012 - 2018 regarding the community. Ugh can't stand this guy. I love you LRR and I know you have to have him given who he is in magic. But you should look into some of the divisive things this guy has done and said to the "community". This blind worship of the guy is painful to see when people don't know what he's done. You might not care about politics, but when you have wizards excluding political beliefs half the country has and making stupid remarks (of which Mark has been involved in most of them), It WILL impact your game long-term. I encourage you to speak out against bringing anything political into magic and say "no" when anyone from Wizards pushes this identity politics rubbish. The game's long term health depends on it.

All this effort put into a fake set while you have bannings in standard. Seems like your head's in the right place. The fact that this set got more done for it than a normal expansion is infuriating. I'm looking at the Rivals packaging and 3/5th's of the art on the boosters looks terribly flat. The character art on the planeswalker decks looks off and unappealing along with the art on the new cards in the decks.

nickjoeb You must be fun. You know it's not all a zero sum game right? Just because you dislike standard, doesnt mean you need to talk down to un-magic.
@nickjoeb6 жыл бұрын
slymaster9 I'm taking it down because they put more effort into it than their main product/ format. To me that's a major offense. If you enjoy it that's fine I got nothing against you. Him saying things like it's a really deep format and what not while I'm listening to him on his other podcast talking about Ixalan getting gutted to meet deadlines for other products really doesn't sit well. I just want this effort back in the main game.
@slymaster96 жыл бұрын
nickjoeb Mtg is very broad. This set was a passion project for many people within R&D. From what MaRo said in the video, a lot of people put in free work to make the third Un-set a succes. The set was completed 3 years ago. And December is often a zone for supplemental product. Over the past few years Wotc branched out a lot. Commander, and now Unstable being more on the "casual" side. The Masters sets being more "serious" Magic. What I mean to say is, I think it is unfair to hold enthusiasm over one thing, against failings of another. Would standard have been better if Wotc didnt put out Unstable? I am mainly a commander player. And the heavy pushing of things like Standard Showdown at FNM and the weekend makes people that simply dont like standard (not this specific standard, but the format as a whole) feel unwanted. Supplemental product is meant for those people.
@nickjoeb6 жыл бұрын
slymaster9 I play CMDR mainly as well but I play standard and draft too. It's true the removal of this set may not have fixed everything but maybe felidar guardian doesn't get missed or they think a little more about the rotation change or the swap or set order between kaladesh and Amonkhet and things are just better. The passion project is a true and they note that but that at the core is the problem. They have lost passion over the regular game. Seeing that type of apathy versus the passion i see here just isn't right. If this had happened during Innistrad standard I dont think is even care to say anything here.
