@@dearkristin You know adult INTP had a surge of glee and confidence after nailing that delivery towards their younger self in tandem with delivering an advice that hit home. Which is why she overshares right after, starting with saying how she hasn't found someone she could trust with all of her thoughts.

As an INTJ, I would like to congratulate the hypothetical INTP on realizing that they are not broken and never were. It takes time to accept that types like ours, which fade into the background for observation (and plotting), will not mimic the rest of the sensers and feelers, nor should we feel obligated to do so. I embraced the concept myself when I was around 14, although the struggle to get other people to understand this is an ongoing battle. Pro tip: If you switch phraseology from "I think" to "I feel" but still communicate the exact same concept, people feel more comfortable and assume you are making decisions with more emotion even though you are using logic and facts.

Lucky you, you got access to your Fi easily. I “feel” like the deep internalized notion that we’re broken or incomplete, and must mimic feelers and sensors won’t really be undone by a single phrase. We can build defenses mechanisms to deny it, but it’s still going to be there. No matter how well we can logic our way out, our Fe is part of us, whispering it’s sweet words and pressuring us to fit in. It’s paradoxical, really. The more we deny our Fe, the less complete we “feel”. The more we empower our Fe, the less “ourselves” we feel.

I hate when people say "I feel" and adding something that is not a feeling. Feelings are made so no one can argue with those. That is their nature. Stating that " I feel like {random thoughts here}" is really just suggestive communication saying: "you are not allowed to argue with the opinion of someone else that I'm mirroring to you right now". Be proud of your wide open way of thinking and embrace this power of yours. If you want fake feelings because of society - mimic feelings and use that as you own wall to hide. Betraying thoughts is like betraying something from your core.

Literally how is your INTP this accurate. I'm an INTP and I HAD goals growing up. But when I actually grew up, all this goals were for the me from the past, which is a completely different person. They have nothing to do with the person I became. All my life I felt safe because I had goals and plans for my future, unlike many others my age, by now that I'm actually here, they all are wrong and done more harm. So no, having goals is not a great advice. But to understand what you REALLY want to do in life, not in fantasy, is very important and takes much time.
@adityasubhedar9556
@adityasubhedar9556 2 ай бұрын
As a younger INTP, I am interested to know how you navigate through life. Do you just live in the moment and not care about / don't have any long term goals or you have an idea of what you want to achieve but you don't know exactly how to achieve it, so you do the things that are generally considered as "good" keep living.
@cringe_mistress
@cringe_mistress 2 ай бұрын
@@adityasubhedar9556 I'm afraid I'm not the best person to go for advice to, because right now I am in a very bad place mentally, but I have some bits that might be useful. Don't ignore physical problems. Like minor health problems that don't require immediate solution or something broken in the house, that you can live without, but it would still be nice to have it working. I have a tendency to ignore Se like it won't eventually bite me in the ass, so if you have a similar problem, don't let it grow too big and overwhelming. The more things pile up, the more intimidating and seemingly unsolvable they become. But I also have ADHD and currently am in autistic burnout, so that might be not an INTP thing. I hope you will be able to find what really makes your life worth living. That's the key, if your job feels good and you actually like at least some part of what you're doing, it won't drain as much energy and you (probably) won't go into a burnout. About navigating… even if you don't know where to go, go away from things, people and places that make you feel bad. You can figure it out as you go, but sticking with what doesn't work in fear of having nothing to replace it with will slowly kill you. Uncertainty will help a right idea to be born, and sticking to your Si habits and routines that don't really work for you anymore will only hold you back. In conclusion: don't be afraid to ditch things that you realised weren't right for you, even if you at the moment don't know what to do after. I don't know how mature you are in that area, but that's a very INTP advice. Feelings matter. You can include them INTO your logical system. Remember that humans are animals, and evolution doesn't make what will be the most logically thinking, it kills what isn't able to survive effectively. Logical thinking isn't absolutely necessary for survival and reproduction, so not everyone has it. "But they SHOULD" argument doesn't work, because that's not how world works, you can't change that, you have to work around. Feelings have a use too. Be connected to your own feelings, so they won't bite you in the ass when you're not expecting. Learn how they work and use them - your own and other people's - take them into account. If your future goal (or an outline of what you want to do, that's better, make it flexible) won't be in harmony with your feelings, you're on the wrong path, you're bound to fail or become miserable. We value and prefer logical solutions, but in some situations a logical thing to do would be to solve it using feelings, or taking them into an account. For example, choosing a job: it's suitable for you logically from every aspect, but the boss is an idiot who makes everyone's life harder for no reason and uses annoyingly ineffective strategies and pressures you to use them too. Your feelings tell you that another month in this environment and you will snap, you will be feeling yourself even more miserable than now, and probably will finally yell at them. Your logic takes that information and draws a conclusion: if things continue to go as they are going now, you simply won't have the energy to do not only work-related stuff, but other spheres of your life with suffer the damage from it. Plus, why work ineffectively, if that aggravates you and lowers your productivity significantly, when you can seek another option. So you seek another option and now work for another company with a more effective and less toxic boss, and how you're feeling immediately improves, and because of that, not only your productivity goes up, but your satisfaction from all the work you did, too. Fe is not a liability, it's a tool. As any tool, it can be mastered through theory AND practice. You will see the use of it and all the benefits as compared to not using it. Seriously, it's like magic. Plus, as I said earlier, sometimes the logical thing to do would be to do not a logical thing. Your task at hand is to convince person, for example, not "teach" them how to think and see logic, so use YOUR logic and figure out what would work on this specific person, not what should work on someone like you. It's FAR more effective than to go familiar route. Also, remember that what you are able to compartmentalize or don't even see as a problem, other people may view as very important issue or even a deal-breaker. And they are not wrong for that, they just have different priorities in life, that only partially influenced by their conscious decisions. Like, we didn't just one day decided to prioritize logic in our decision making, it came naturally, and they just can't one day decide and adopt a whole another way of thinking. Be patient and understanding, and it will significantly improve your communication skills, and with them your results. As Fe can work as a tool for Ti needs, Ti can be used as a tool to satisfy Fe. We NEED connection, we need understanding from other people, we need that stupid harmony in the group, or we will go insane trying to bottle up a very important need, that is necessary for living a good, satisfying life. Okay, most of what I wrote is not a direct answer to your question (because I don't have one), but in my opinion it's an important information to help you navigate through life. I don't know how many of that you already have figured out on your own (and if you did, I'm proud of you), so some of it may sound obvious, but I hope I was able to help you in some way. Take care.

@@jameswilkerson4412 I think it depends on what sources/perspectives you get this info from and what personalitiy model you're using. I'm operating under a kind of foursided model of personality, i.e. the main personality in question is the "ego", flipping the middle two letters is "superego," flipping all the letter is the "subconscious," and flipping just the outer two is the "shadow," but again, it seems different sources use different terms for these.

And Fi deamon, "emotions, don't they suck haha"... I'm glad Kristin went with the route she did, I understand why people say it's necessary to "express the feelings to other human beings" to process them, but I really don't like myself when I have to do that. She even recommended "journalling" which proved to be by far the superior option for me. Even Ni critic. "Just have a general list of places you'd like to be, not necessarily a plan" is a good advice especially when we get too overwhelmed by all the odd passions and visions other people seem to pick for their future and ours just look way too complicated/diverigng that we don't even know where to begin

I'm either INTP or ENTP, and I've actually been thinking about this lately (although more in the 'if I could go back knowing what I know now' vein). I would tell myself that we're far too independent for our own good and that social crap actually does have an impact on your life, whether you want to engage with it or not. I would tell myself to spend my high school years practicing my social skills so that I'd have a good grip on them in college. You don't have to be a social butterfly, but being socially confident and knowing how to handle/approach things is important. Also, go shopping and actually try on lots of different clothes so that you learn your lines. You only have to figure out the silhouettes that work best on you once. They don't change. People judge you based on what you wear, whether you care about fashion or not, they do. You can't opt out of other people's dumb opinions on crap that doesn't actually matter. It is what it is. I would also tell myself to find a few women I admire in college and pour into those relationships because the people you're around rub off on you. I would also tell myself that your personality isn't fixed and me believing I'm introverted and such-and-such way does nothing positive. It just makes you double down on weird things. We're all a lot more flexible than we believe.

I would say: When trying new things and meeting new people there will be a lot of times when it won't work. Sometimes you can do everything by the book and fail, other times you will do everything wrong and things will work out. People will do, say and assume all kinds of things, so have a sense of humour and learn not to care when you don't need to. Also, don't be jealous or put other people on a pedestal - everyone has strengths and weaknesses. You are free to make your own journey and there is value in taking the longer road.

All true! The trick -- probably for everyone, but particularly a young INTP -- is to find balance between the push through and the self care. It can be so hard to know where to set the goal posts for yourself with the social/people stuff. Especially if you're at the far end of the introvert scale (by ordinary concepts not just 'type'). We definitely *don't* need to be held to Feeler/extravert standards, but we do need to find a way to just *be* in this big people-y world of ours (not to mention that we often develop an impulse to help later on too -- damn Fe!). And that can be a really slow growth for us. If we force it, bad/stressy/overwhelming experiences can really get in the way. hard to stuff that into a 5 minute comedy vid. 😉

I'm probably mostly INTP [1] and I'd probably have wanted to grill my future self on which model of time travel is actually instantiated in the universe we live in. If my future self can interact with my past self does that mean I'm interacting with a future self that never met his future self, and that I'm headed on a tangential trajectory? Or will I one day travel back in time to deliver the exact same message to my past self, in which case, where did the knowledge first come from? Also, what major events have happened between now and the future? I did enjoy the video though. Keep up the good work! [1] Insofar as the MBTI is a valid map. In the past I've found myself trying to connect different personality schemes into one meta-scheme to correct for the strengths and weaknesses of each, which I realise is the most stereotypically INTP way to approach the topic. I also realise adding footnotes to KZfaq comments is another thing only an INTP would do.

I don't think I can explain it in a way that makes sense without over-explaining lol. To put it simply, it came after my conclusion of spiritual evil as a real thing, a supernatural thing. I had been doing a great amount of research on many things that lead me to that point. I was noticing patterns (big shock right lol) in history, media, etc. where it was undeniable to me that there is a concerted effort to keep humanity divided and stupid, at the very least (and by a specific group of people). When I picked up a Bible for the first time, what I was reading was lining up with the symbolism and themes I saw on the world stage. I felt energy and light as things started to click. I hold a fairly extensive philosophy around the nature of sin and evil, but I'll cut it short. Though I still consider myself Christian, I am undergoing another theological restructuring that's kind of pulling the rug out from under me... again. But that's the beauty of Ti-Ne, right? 😅must always adjust accordingly to new information, even if it hurts... so long as it makes the most sense.

@@elenawhite88You talk about a specific group of people. Did you continue to believe that after you were saved? That is dangerous. The forces of hell are trying to destroy every person from the inside. At particular times they may be having more success with one group than another, and that group may become responsible for many of the problems of the world at that time (e.g, the Germans 80 years ago), but there's no single group that's always in that position, and thinking there is makes us vulnerable to thinking we are immune. Damn, this video really came with the right timing, huh? This is literally the words I needed to hear the most right now. When I'm at home, I usually enjoy my own company. I was perfectly happy on my own. I felt peaceful, I did things on my own. But when I'm outside, especially in school, I have this need to be around someone, to not be alone, and follow a group around, like I couldn't bare to be alone. I didn't want to be alone because people have told me that people who were alone were weird and a loner. Dang, my future intp self must have intuitively connected to Kristin to make this video to assure me that I don't have to fit in or follow people around just so I wouldn't be seen as weird and that I can be perfectly happy by my own wthout worrying about what people would think or say about me. Keep doing these types of videos, kristin! They're so entertaining and if you don't realize it yet, some of your videos have helped me understand myself even more and that every type is unique on their own. They're also informative too. ❤❤

I, too, love Old Norse... and the Hildegard references. 😁 We're the dreamers who are (semi-)solidly grounded in reality. We're depressed optimists, contrarily and dispassionately pointing out how things could go horrifically wrong at any moment, while also noting how there's always reason to have hope. We FEEL as much anyone, but feelings make us uncomfortable... other people's feelings, but our own even more so. The first thirty or forty years are the hardest. It gets easier after that. -- INTP

I went from Atheism to Agnosticism and back to Atheism, mostly because I discovered that there are different type of Atheism, including Agnostic Atheism. >> Atheist criticism of agnosticism says that the unprovability of a god's existence does not imply an equal probability of either possibility.[24] Australian philosopher J.J.C. Smart argues that "sometimes a person who is really an atheist may describe herself, even passionately, as an agnostic because of unreasonable generalized philosophical skepticism which would preclude us from saying that we know anything whatever, except perhaps the truths of mathematics and formal logic."

Have you checked out Eastern Orthodoxy? It has that sense of mystery and lore that an INTP's Ti->Ne->Si adores. It's also mainly practiced in Greece and elsewhere in South-Eastern Europe (as well as Eastnrn Europe, including Ukraine and Russia), which is a history and language nerd's buffet! Also, because Orthodox theology is so deeply founded in the East, when speaking about theology, one uses terms from Greek, Old Church Slavonic, etc which is the most INTP thing ever, randomly using words from niche languages to describe concepts that are hard to describe in English, at least via single word, niche INTP effectively, I love that! Orthodoxy also founds itself on mystery and tradition, which is a super petri dish for an INTP's Si, and also deep theology lore to feed your Ne. Besides the deep lore, if you are still new to philosophy, there is a flexibility for concepts for which may interest an INTP, but bare no reason to have dogma, so regardless of whether you are YEC or are happy in (theistic) evolution waters, Orthodoxy welcomes. I am biased towards Orthodoxy as one, of course, but if as an INTP, I have chosen this path, then there must be hope for an INTP's insatiable thirst for knowledge, but also a spot to know where you are to quench one's interest in philosophy and hypothetical. Religion is not a myth, as common misconception states. In fact Christianity, as well as Islam, Hinduism and other religions have always promoted research and science, for Christians merely view science as the study of God's Creation. Even, the Big Bang Theory and Genetics were proposed by a priest and clergy as a Christian alternative for what is mainstream. I am here if you have questions, much love to all my fellow INTPs :)

Nice! The advice I would give myself will be like study this in this year (I learnt so much I wouldn't change a thing), this year don't study this (it went to nowhere and wasn't live changing) and work instead, of course meet and get to know my future husband, tell me about 2 hobbies I enjoy thought the pass of years (so I can focus on them and hopefully be happier... and have higher skills? haha), and buy an apartment when the market is good (and some economy recommendations to investigate). Also, yes, don't be stressed about being shy and an introvert, because people love to talk and be with people that talk less, is polite and have a humble attitude, so just study psycology as a hobby (and other related stuff, I will give me a list) and chill. On the other hand, I would be worried about bad consequences altering time O.O and the imposibility of it. So yes, is better if I think of it like a dream... it makes sense anyway because I don't remember my dreams and it will all be for nothing haha T-T xD (another INTP)

@milinski_6893 very well if you can distinguish your dreams from reality. Even I dream the most bizarre things, I can easily identify my dreams. BUT when I'm thinking about the scenario, the thought of a future me suddenly popping from nowhere also seem unrealistic to me right now(knowing all the technologies we have right now and to an extent being able to imagine how far future few decades can go in terms of technological/scientific endeavours), so it'd feel like there's an unrealistic entity in a hyper-realistic surrounding. And just one unrealistic happening is enough to make a conclusion of a dream. Although I admit, it won't be a fast conclusion, I'd be very weirded out and constantly guessing and second guessing like the younger intp in the skit. Kristen did a very nice job, it'd be exactly how I'd react too.

@milinski_6893 Wouldn’t the simplest, yet quite effective solution be that you choose a codeword (actually a code sentence would be better) and then if you ever travel back in time to meet a younger version of yourself, you simply write the sentence down and make the younger you read it? Given that in dreams - even while lucid dreaming - it’s very rare (some say impossible) to be able to read, that would give you quite an easy way to determine whether you are dreaming or it’s time travel.

I never got into popular things, I’ve always felt people my age or even older to be immature, I’ve struggled with emotionally connecting to anything (outside of music) and I’ve struggled simply doing anything considered normal or conversational. Yet strangely, most people approve of me or like me. I always thought I was the weird kid or the quiet kid, but really I was just that one decently smart kid that everyone knew.

Thank you Kristin for giving me the hint about agnosticism. I didnt know about it but I guess rhis is exactly what Im going through rn. Im a computer scientist so naturally binary logic is the first Ive learned. But the more you think about the world and human behavior, the more you realize that nothing is ever binary. There is no good and evil and even the most extreme of views are multi facetted. So rn Im learning about Fuzzy logic, the way computers can make sense of human views. Bc in fuzzy logic there are no hard yes/nos or right/wrongs. The truth can be between 0-100% And I guess this is also my current viewpoint about god and supernatural stuff. I just dont know the right answer. I guess there might be something supernatural we cant wrap our heads around, but especially for this reason Im not willing to point my finger on any religion and say: " They figured it out" On the other hand, Im also happy for everyone who found their inner peace by believing in God. This is a cruel world and if this helps you to endure it, Im not here to argue against it -INTP
