Introducing the Vale of Jamison Light Railway - a 16mm scale narrow gauge live steam garden railway under construction in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales.

Rails in the Garden are a group based in NSW, Australia that meet regularly to run our live steam and battery-electric trains on 32mm and 45mm gauge tracks at events held in member's gardens and at regular indoor exhibition events.
We produce our own quarterly Australian magazine devoted to the garden railway hobby and subscription enquires are welcomed by e-mail: magazine@ritg.org.au.
Our annual premier event is SHSU and we are already looking forward to the next edition on 17-19 May 2024; details of pre-registration are available at shsteamup.com or by e-mail: registrar@shsteamup.com.
Prospective members may attend events by expressing their interest to secretary@ritg.org.au and a full calendar of our activities is available at ritg.org.au.

Thanks @ken.mp372 , the construction method I’ve chosen is new to me so I’ve been stuck in a prototyping phase for a while but it’ll be “full steam ahead” soon! I’ll be sure to upload a video when there’s clear progress so keep an eye out for it.

Thanks Rob, we are so lucky that we found this site (back in 2010!) and could just afford to buy it when we were renting there and the owner wanted us out to sell it. I am worried about how much time it will take me to build the trackbed as it is a longish run and I’ll have to find quite a few days-off. I will be using an experimental method that I’ve been working on for some time that hopefully will be relatively quick. I should be able to make a start and reveal more soon. Keep going on your line - it’s a great design!

@@SteamInYourGarden Yes, so much to do! It really puts my own small project into perspective. I've been working on preparing the area for over a year at this point and still nowhere near laying track. (Any day now...)

Life is messy and other things get in the way. Just keep chipping away at it, you’ll get there.

@@SteamInYourGarden Thanks for the encouragement! In my case, the railway was approved as a contingency on some other yard projects, which have been much more tedious than anticipated. Plus I had to deal with some hidden underground concrete (chipping away at it indeed!), but on the plus side I can now accurately call myself a one-man wrecking crew!
