PTX got lucky in finding Matt as he not only extremely talented but he seemed to instantly fit in with the group from a personality standpoint. I would suggest Come Along or New Rules X Are you that somebody.

Matt was actually Avi's personal choice to replace him. He scouted him out during the search and secured an audition for him. He won the audition, and the rest is history.

To everything there is a season Avi is phenomenal and was perfect for PTX when it was his season Matt is phenomenal and it’s his season in PTX 2.0 I love them both and appreciate their contributions to this amazing group ❤️🔥🙌

Most of us Pentaholics feel the same. We love Avi and Matt equally. Reportedly Avi helped the group find Matt and Matt learned ALL their songs for the tour before even auditioning. So he never missed a beat.

Thank you for appreciating Matt. His voice is like a smooth, warm hug. They all say that he is a joy to be around. and he fits in well with the goofiness that is PTX. Very hard working guy. Once he got the job he put every PTX song he could find on repeat so he could learn the bass parts. He was surprised when he started actually singing with them. They would practice a song and he would ask what he missed or did wrong. They would tell him he was good; he had it. He even knew songs that they had forgotten.

It’s not only having a great bass taking over for a great bass. It’s keeping the good chemistry within the band that is unique with Pentatonix. It’s obvious that the band is almost like family. Recommend their cover of Come Along for another Matt verse.

8:07 Pay attention to Matt’s base drop right before Scott starts singing. Most reactors don’t catch, but it’s one of my favorite parts of this arrangement.

Tall blond is Scott Hoying-Baritone; the girl is Kirsten Maldonado, Mezzo-Soprano; the guy with the hat is Mitch Grassi, Counter-Tenor; the guy in the white jacket is Matt Sallee, Basso-Profundo; The Beatboxer is Kevin Olusola, Tenor/Cellist/Cellist Beatboxer. Scott, Kirsten, and Mitch met in a high school in Arlington, TX (between Dallas and Ft.Worth, TX). After graduation they all went to different colleges. They got back together for a tv singing competition called "Sing-Off, but they required 5 person groups, so Kevin and Avi came in from referrals.

The range that each one has is so crazy. They are beyond awesome. Also I dont know if they choose their outfits or someone helps them but they always look so great.

Even though yes all he will always be my favorite based that played with Pentatonix I do agree that mat fits perfectly in it's like he actually fits better in then I'll be because obvious so talented that he stands on his own well whereas Pentatonix as a band wants to stand as a band and Matt is a solid addition. Well technically my favorite number is a tie between Avi when he was in and Kevin😂 the way Kevin makes sound like there is actually somebody playing music is just amazing.

Just love your PTX reactions! You are clearly a Pentaholic and not just a reactor using PTX to bump up the you tube algorithm. It is easy to tell when a reactor is just doing it for the subs. Glad you decided not to do the chronological thing. With a catalog of over 300 songs it would be hard to wait for some of their current songs. Prayers For This World is one from their most current album (2022) I think you will love. You also seem to really appreciate Scott's voice. I highly recommend his solo, original song, Mars. It is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Scott went on a song writing spree during the pandemic and wrote at least one song a day. Mars is his first solo work since the formation of PTX which he dropped last October. There are two versions. Both are spectacular. One us like watching a movie with wonderful visuals. The other (my favorite) is a choir version with Scott, a piano and a choir. Scott's vocals on the choir version will melt your brain cells! Thanks for all your great reactions to Pentatonix. So much fun! I am so looking forward to your journey down all the related rabbit holes like Superfruit (Scott and Mitch, sooo good) Avi's solo music and Kevin's solo productions. I have been a Pentaholic for a little over a year and still haven't checked out much of Mitch's solo work as Messer or Kirstin's solo work. So much good music and so little time! Thanks again!

You missed Matt’s drop from baritone to bass at the end of his solo. Always back up a few bits so you don’t miss stuff. Avi and Matt are both great bass singers. Different and utilized differently. Both are fab.

Another really good one is Bohemian Rhapsody with Matt in it although I will say I miss all the he was such a base and I really don't have the amount of time to go fiddle through his catalogue yet.

The "doo doo doo" in between verses is referred to as "bell tone". It's fairly common with a cappella groups, and PTX uses them quite a lot, although most usually they are used to imitate piano notes. There are two videos that PTX did in between when Avi left and when Matt officially joined them, "Dancing On My Own" and "Away In a Manger". "Dancing" has Kevin cello-boxing, and a lot of people (me included) think the cello actually sounds a lot like the bass line Avi would have sung if he was still with the group. "Away" is done as 4 part harmony, with no beatboxing but everyone helping out with body percussion in some form.

Avi left PTX in the fall of 2017 and Matt joined on a trial basis for the 2017 Christmas tour. In between, PTX recorded some songs for the Christmas album and did some videos without a bass or used a guest bass. Check out this cover of Robyn's "Dancing on My Own". Nope. You got Kevin and Matt mixed up. Until you can recognize them easily, just remember that Matt has pierced ears and wears what appear to be diamond stud earrings, and Kevin has no piercings. Also, their hair styles are different.

Avi is a basso profundo Matt isn't

I have heard Avi did Not leave on good terms. He was demanding they get rid of Kirsten. He gave an ultimatum either her or him. They had a lot of legal issues to separate him from the group and everyone except Kevin has unfollowed him. Avi did attend Kevin's wedding but there are no photo's of him with anyone but Kevin.
