These five can not very comparable to each other in value. I was once very poor as a part timer to study in college again to be a teacher. Now I'm a retired teacher. I had not enough money ,nor health. I narrowly survived from the more than 10 year poverty.　In my opinion,　these four are important to each other. I’ve been to a fine metals purveyor and supplier for gold particles with a specific size profile for pharmaceutical purposes. You’d be surprised where these places are. Getting in is easy but the process upon exit is quite extensive and invasive, as it should be.

I worked at ERGO in Brakpan in South Africa in the early 80’s where gold was extracted from the mine dumps, processing was done using flotation cells to remove the gold from the slurry washed from the dumps.

I always imagined weight. They know how much comes in, and how much should go out after smelting. Or I've even imagined they weigh employees as they come and go... They're likely paid well enough to not want to lose their jobs, and be condemned to never work again from tainting their record. Of course gold is shiny, but I really came here for the thumbnail booba. I would never want to steal gold from any company or manufacturer... but I wouldn't mind searching for it in the wild, panning for it or mining it if I had some tools and no legal issues for doing so.

There are already alternatives to mercury in gold mining. The mercury-free gold extraction method uses borax in the process of gold smelting. Borax is used in the smelting process because it lowers the melting point of gold and other metals.

Some of the video appears to be of/in the ERPM mine on the East Rand near Johannesburg. The mine closed in 2008 so it is very old footage. Today, there is nothing left of the once "deepest mine in the world" - even the mine dumps, once visible from space, have been recycled

The idea that we, as a species, should continue to mine or gather gold is baffling. As a species we have enough of this substance just sitting in warehouses (like Fort Knox, or the Federal Reserve, or Bank of England) to last our manufacturing facilities probably over a thousand years into the future. Gold is a metal, not unlike iron, copper, and aluminum... to have so much unneeded product just piling up in buildings would make one think, because of marginal utility, that it's almost worthless in reality. The 'value' of gold is a perplexing fantasy.

That's 100,000,000 pounds, or 1,600,000,000 ounces, or 45,359,236,800 grams. Does it create things? Does it perform a service? It's not more valuable than a rock in my yard. The only value warehoused gold has is hoarding comfort. There's zero point to mine more.
