Investigation into man performing medical care on people experiencing homelessness

State health officials have opened an investigation into a man who has claimed to be helping some of the most vulnerable people in Arizona by providing medical services to those experiencing homelessness around Phoenix. ABC15 first spoke with Shane Benson in July after we met him in Phoenix’s homeless encampment known as the Zone where he told ABC15 that he is a former medic from upstate New York.

In late July/early Aug we spoke on the phone because I needed to know where to send a donation I was giving him. He really liked to brag and wasn't shy about telling me all about his " Accomplishments" I live in NOLA and when he found out he told me he came down to help out during Hurricane Katrina. He went on to say during the storm he helped deliver a baby to a 14 yr old mother who had been R"ed. He went on to say he was so proud of her for raising a baby he bought her a computer so she could finish school and because of him she went on to be a nurse. He also told me he was great friends with Christina Ricci, she said when he came out to do outreach on skid row he could stay in her guest house. I watched that live where he was cutting the guys finger. That man needed to go to the ER.

That infected finger needs to be seen in an ER. He could end up sepsis.

Omg!! The spirit of George Santos is everywhere! Everyone wants to be a professional scammer these days..... what he is doing is so dangerous to the people... I hope they caught him..

Health dept does not like competition. Makes them look bad when he does more than they ever do. Reminds me when the cops get mad when people stand out there and tell people to slow down speed trap ahead. I'm from the govt and i'm here to help.

Why not do a story on the millions that are donated to help the homeless in Arizona that gets squandered away every year instead of bashing someone who's actually doing something to help. Seriously, WTF

I think you're not Comprehending The point, I recommend rewatching it. He is no fire recuse, nurse or EMT. yet he was putting in IVs, and taking care wounds out in the open. He k lhas NO TRAINING he could've seriously injured or even worse killed somebody. On top of all that he took in well over $30 Gs in donos from people under false Pretenses. I mean what are you not getting?😊

What i learned here, its ok for "non profits" to take money from the state to hand out needles and glass pipes to drug addicts, but attempting to provide medical care is a no no.

Here’s what we would call a Ricky rescue ems community. Someone that probably doesn’t have any training running around portraying themselves as a medic. Also, there is a whole world of self dispatch where they are out looking for problems to fix.
