I was crazy about INXS back in the day, and I'll happily admit to shedding a tear or 2 when Hutchence died. 'Kick' was on auto replay for many a day. My son loved them also and he went to several of their concerts...all over this great country of ours. I hope Farnham is your day 5 pick, or chris's pick should I say. Cheers chris for some great songs.

Alex….I swore off rock for several years …….early eighties…..went into smooth jazz and Windham Hill in a a big way……so when I went back to popular music around 1986….I “discovered” Simple Minds, Mike and the Mechanics, Roxy Music (Avalon) and INXS and all the solo work of Collins, Henley and Winwood. It was so much fun diving into all that great music……..so much of that sound is “dated” now, but I’ve never been one of those who sneer at it….I loved it at the time. And INXS really ROCKS. You gents should most definitely watch some of the songs from their live show at Wembley Stadium. You asked months ago about best live shows……..that one would be on the list.

Assume you knew ACDC are an Aussie band. Easybeats lead singer Stevie Wright 'Evie - live at the Sydney Opera House' - probably the best live performance ever in Oz.

It's hard for young Aussies to believe now, but way back in the 50's Australian audiences had no interest in fellow Australian performers in the music industry. Because they hadn't heard of him before and he was a local, Johnny O'Keefe was booed at. So he said something like "Just you wait, you're gonna love me", 2 minutes later, girls were screaming in the aisles. It was tough going, trying to get international recognition and many got screwed over by agents etc. Then in 74' I think it was, a music show called Countdown was born and Aussie artists were finally beginning to get recognized, although, even in those early days, they were mostly noticed by English artists like David Bowie, Rod Stewart and Elton John.

I had this in my cover bands songlist for over a decade. It packed the dancefloor so well that we played an extra verse and added a solo, so they could slow dance longer. Written by another band member, Andrew Farris, as a much different piano based blues style song, but it was Hutchence who slowed it down into a strings and synthesizer based modern Viennese waltz style of song. This is why it was filmed along the banks of the Danube by a great Australian cinematographer, Richard Lowenstein, who made films like Dogs in Space, and He Died With A Felafil In His Hand. He also made music videos for U2. It was filmed in Prague and those video sequences and the vignettes of lovers and the characters of Prague are a sensational part of the impact of the song. However, live performances of the song featured much longer pauses, and a much longer sax solo. The song was played at Hutchence funeral as his coffin was carried from Sydney’s St. Andrew’s Cathedral.

TBH I've always found this track a bit overblown, as was often the case with tracks from the late 80s-early 90s. For me, a more classic INXS sound is 1982's Don't Change. A tight, pumping rock track that's really stood the test of time.

The documentary MYSTIFY: MICHAEL HUTCHENCE is an Australian made and an in depth and fascinating look into Michael and the bands early to end magnetic story. All of the song writing and music composition and arrangements came from Michael and the Farris brothers within the band. I saw their posters in their early days playing around Perth, their home base, and thought their band was pronounced ' INKS' because they had a black silhouette of the band on the poster. But not for long as the cars in the local Herdsman Pub car park were overflowing around my local neighbourhood streets whenever they played there.. They were knocking out big hits before they were world famous with big money for big productions.

Many thanks, love that you are checking out some of our Aussie Legends. BUT If John Farnham is not on the list this time round...you really need to make a new list. You could spend a week on him alone. He is the most loved Aussie artist ever. And is beleived to be the most successful Pop Rock artist ever in this country. Voted the number one singer in Aus by his peers. He is the only artist in Australia to have had number one hits in every decade from the 60's, 70's , 80's, 90's, 2000's and 2015(if you include the album he did with Olivia Newton John) Only other artist world wide to come close to this is Sir Cliff Richard 5 decades. His 1987 album Whispering Jack, still holds the Australian record to this day of being the highest ever selling Australian Album with 24x platinum. And only just pipped by Meatloaf into second if you include international artists. Just sayin. Followed closely by Jimmy Barnes another legend who has been relevent for almost as long

Saw them at Brisbane Entertainment centre, they just returned from world tour. They road skateboards out on to the stage. Great concert, except for all the girls screaming, impossible to hear. Yes the Vegetables name would be ok on a T shirt in Oz as we would call them the "Vegies" ha ha

Inxs learnt a lesson at NARRARA 83 another 3-Day All Aussie Band Concert. At the time their big hit was "One Thing". No one must have advised them on how much Sound they would need at a Big Festival so when they played you could barely hear them and the crowd was cool to them. Also the song didn't seem to suit a Concert. The songs and equipment they used after that were Concert Ready.

If Kenny G ever comes on the radio, Geof practically screams, and we can’t turn it off fast enough. I don’t mind him so much, but talk about overexposure…..and yeah, to me, a little sax is a marvelous and powerful thing…..a constant diet of it dilutes it’s effect. But I will take Stan Getz over Kenny G any day. There was a collab between Getz and Giberto from Brazil waaay back…….great album. Don’t know if you’re familiar with it…

Hey George, just wanted to chime in and let you know that I think I get what you mean about it not being specifically Aussie but more world wide. In much the same way British bands like Queen & The Rolling Stones became so globally encompassing. You could easily sell the idea to an American (as international cultural heavyweights) that Queen was American, you could easily do the same with INXS, especially to younger people who didn't live through the initial export periods respectively. It isn't the idea that the band being Australian is difficult, it's just their universal appeal means you could believe they were from anywhere.
