Stevie Wright performed this song in the early 2000s at a concert comprising of number one Australian hits from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and perhaps also 1980s. Stevie was not well. He needed assistance to walk on stage. But, once he started singing, he stole the show. I was in tears. So moving.

That looks like the Rocktober concert of the decade in 1979 at the Opera House. I was one of the lunatics in the crowd, right up near the stage. I went with a couple of mates from Wagga and got there at 2a.m to get a decent spot. It was a long, drunken day.

The third part is the saddest part, most definitely. But, it's the musicianship of Vanda & Young is ingenious! The up tempo music perfectly juxtaposed the lyrics. An Aussie classic for sure. I sang part 1 with a covers band in the early 2000's. Nice work!

The band in this was made up of members from many bands on the Albert label. The second part of the song was about child birth with the last part about the death of his Evie. OMG ALBERTS! What a studio. I used to record advertising jingles with rock royalty who would casually stick their heads in and ask to join in! A major label force in Oz music, the Easys were part of their early success. How I am still alive after the epic Christmas parties at Alberts and Armstrongs in Melbourne. That first note brought back ( well, whatever bits I can remember) the sad wrecking balls and the stellar successes. My generation is prob a good example of why you shouldn’t hang out with musicians kiddies. So enjoying your banter and deep Brit past. You still rock!😂❣️

Gentlemen. The 3rd part "dissonance" being uptempo is the frenetic feelings of a spouse watching their partner dying young and being unable to do a thing about it. A great performance from a guy who’d been through a lot and had a fantastic last hurrah here. Yes, the studio version is also well worth a listen. The second part is definitely a top performance and arrangement; slightly soppy in the lyrics on the odd line or two, but still great. But it’s the combination of the riffs from the intro, the verses, and absolutely the choruses that make the studio version a rock classic. I’d put it up there against your Barracudas and Smoke On The Waters for rock guitar goodness. Crank it up loud and revel: EVIE! Ker-Chang!! EVIE! Ker-Chang!! Evie let your hair hang down! Ba-dah-du-dow-duh!

The tragic story that is Stevie Wright. He had the world (well at least Australia) at his feet, but succumbed to the lure of Heroin. Unfortunately he was a hopeless addict who became homeless living in an old broken down bus whilst doing breaking and entering of local homes to get enough money to shoot some more poison up his arm. I saw an interview with him in that old bus when his teeth were rotting away. After that he also developed some brain functionality issues. It is amazing that he lived as long as he did. Such a shame that because of drugs his talent was largely wasted. Evie is his legacy as a solo artist that we can continue to enjoy. Absolute classic. Vanda and Young wrote so many good songs, but this one is right up there.

Glad you loved Evie pts 1, 2 and 3 😊 It's an absolutely epic track by songwriting maestros Harry Vanda and George Young, who met at migrant hostel near Sydney in the early 60s. George was the oldest brother of Angus and Malcolm from, you guessed it, AC/DC. Harry and George formed the Easybeats (with Stevie Wright out front) and wrote many of their songs. BTW, I've always thought Part 3 was uptempo to reflect the anguish that the character in the song felt as Evie slipped away.

Aw geez guys - such affection. I'm blushing. Well, as an Aussie you guys are OK by me as well 😍! Great reaction. Thanks for the entertainment as always fellas. This is one of the must plays sitting around the camp fire at my annual camping trip with some old uni mates. Ha, how times have changed over the 40 years. It used to be sitting around the fire working our way through slabs of beer calling each other "clams" etc. Now with the advent of bluetooth speakers we listen (mostly) to the 70s, 80s and 90s while sipping a nice red. And as curator of the music do I cop it if I only play part 1 or part 3...!

Lead singer of the Easy Beats with George Young and Harry Vanda links to ACDC here as George older brother of Angus and Mal produced the early ACDC records . All these guys were at Albert's studios in Sydney developing an Australian sound.

A great celebration of the Vanda and Young magic coupled with Little Stevie, a true legend. They also combined to do an absolute classic single called "Black eyed bruiser". Yes, I was at the concert too and loved it all.

You have GOT to listen to the studio version.... part three gives me chills even now. A local singer John Paul Young sang Part 2 as a type of eulogy and I cried.

my dear old Dad ,was a hardened bush truckie in the 60's onwards. He had three mates( who were all brothers) from Wapping in good old pommyland. You could not have gotten more vastly different upbringings, except one thing in common. That was real poverty. They had to protect their bush runs and they did for 20 odd years.I will always remember when they met, it would be a hearty 'Gday C..." and hugs.As an adult i have seen and heard numerous times the c word being a term of endearment between tough but fair men.

part 1 = young meeting first time, excitement, Part 2 = The settling down for a life together and starting a family, mellow. Part 3 = Anger and despair of losing his woman. hence the cadence of each track

Hi Guys. Love your reactions. The reason part 3 is fast and furious is because as he was losing his wife, he could not get his head around it and he was powerless to do anything. This in turn made him crazy/ out of his mind/ spinning out of control. "All I know is I'm losing you" and coming after the last line of part 2 "I'm nothing without you" puts everything into perspective. Both their lives are lost.
