he shouldn't deride himself so much. with nerves mistakes etc. he still does outstanding work! I couldn't do what he does if the microscope view was actual size! very professional and good videos.

+Daniel Graves this one wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. There are quite a few I have to turn away now due to the amount of time they would take to fix and a good handful for being mutilated beyond hope too! Lol

I mainly work on laptops from local pawn shops. The sheer amount of idiotic makeshift repairs that I witness is unnerving. To make matters worse it's very difficult to find board views for the vast majority of computers that I get in. I fix what I can and the rest go into a parts bin.

Between you, Jessa, and Louis I've learned many things. The main one being, I would absolutely butcher a board if I tried any of this. Out of curiosity, how do you film your videos? Do you film all the camera angles at once and edit later, or do you switch scenes on the fly? You've mentioned OBS in previous videos, wasn't sure if you were still using that.

Thank u for commenting! Right now I'm using 2 video sources. The main camera that points at me that records all the time and then Open Broadcaster instance that records hands, microscope, screen capture & audio. There is a video or 2 that I posed where nearly every camera and audio were recorded separate.. although that will make better videos in the end, it is just tooo much work for me. Before posting, I use Adobe Premier to decide which video source is displayed and when.

+James Mclaughlin I'm thinking on adding +$50 to prior hot air attempts. It can make them a royal pain or not even worth the battle.

@ststele
@ststele 7 жыл бұрын
Thank u! I typically only remove the shields if it's being ultrasonic cleaned due to liquid damage. On general repairs, I try to only clean the area that was reworked.

man jumpers under chips?!?!?! crazy skill! Is that the hardest thing to do in these repairs?
@ststele
@ststele 7 жыл бұрын
Hehe, thanks! Well, when it gets to be more than 2 or 3 of them it becomes one of the hardest things. The hardest thing I think is dealing with ulderfilled components.. that is just the worst.

just 1 dumb question ... what % and what alcohol u use for clean flux ?
@ststele
@ststele 7 жыл бұрын
I'm using 91%. I've not been able to buy higher percentage around here but honestly, the remaining 9% is distilled water which is what I use in my ultrasonic cleaner :)

You really need to invest in a professional multi-channel soldering station. Getting up just to plug in a different soldering iron can be annoying to say the least.
@ststele
@ststele 7 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't spend the $ on a multi channel station right now but I am adding a second station VERY soon. Probably an FM-202 so I can use hot tweezers with it. For the time being, the exercise of standing up 100 times per day is keeping me slim ;)

If you really need to buy new station just invest in JBC straight
@mike7958

Why would you not want to invest in the tool that you use every day and the main tool that pays your bills. I have no regrets in investing in mine. It has made my life much easier. And my work volume can't even compare to yours. If i was setting up a dedicated camera just to view/show off my incoming work queue, then upgrading my hobbyist level soldering station to a professional multi-channel station would be a no-brainer.
@ststele
@ststele 7 жыл бұрын
+Mike camera to show my work queue = free. It was being thrown in the trash and I scrounged it. When I upgrade to prevent me from switching irons, it wont be because I don't want to get out of my chair. It will be to save the connectors on my handles and some time. I will either be buying a second 951, a 202 or another very reasonably priced station. Maybe one day I'll spend $1k plus on a station but it wont be because I feel like I need to when the tools I have work exceptionally well for under $500.
