IR spectroscopy is one of the most common and widely used lab techniques for the identification of certain compounds and functional groups. Despite its importance, IR spectroscopy’s role in research is frequently overlooked. This video will explore and provide a comprehensive review of what exactly IR spectroscopy is. Beyond the overview, we will highlight the history behind IR spectroscopy and how it became the established research tool it is today. The video will then continue with exploring the driving mechanism of the technique and how to read an IR spectroscopy graph while concluding with the advantages and limitations associated with its use.
