I have been wanting to go to this superstore FOREVER!!! Finally, this Irish girl got to try Walmart for the first time. What did I think of this American icon? Well... it as nothing like Target. I had a look at some unique American products and did some shopping.
Thank you so much to the SQUAD!

@@shyryTsr2k I've worked at three different Walmarts and shopped regularly at a dozen others. There are, in my experience, two common layouts for Walmarts that most stores use, and I know of only one Walmart that uses a different, unique layout of its own. (Specificly, the downtown Salt Lake City location has a weird layout because it's extremely small for a modern Walmart, and they do what they can to fit the layout into too small an area. And yeah, they do redo some small part of the store essentially every night, which means the whole store is redone about three or four times a year.

Here in smaller town USA, it's almost like "we're bored, Let's go to Walmart!" And then just browse for an hour or two. It's even worse if you're feeling zombie-fied after a hard work day, and you're just wandering around Walmart. Not needing anything, but the basket fills up with random things. Hours later, you are so tired and overwhelmed, you can't even decide if you actually want to buy the things or go home and crash. Walmart can have good deals, but those "deals" add up.

It was an opt in game, which wasn't done verbally, but by even trying to Kack someone, we weren't completely ruthless. One time a kid fought me under a bridge because I Kacked his good friend. I once uppercutted one of my good friends a bit off the ground in the library, another participant got a nasty hook, so they had to stay quiet afterwards. One time my good friend me, and a couple other kids were fighting over a quarter. He accidentally kicked the tip of my right middle finger nail backwards, during lunch recess. I didn't go to the nurse or try to go home, I just went to class and took care of it myself. We're still friends. This is what real Men are like. :'D

I was thinking the same thing. If there are items in the aisles, then you are probably in the correct area. Just turn and look around you. Some aisles have a little flag/tab on the end to let you know what types of items are on the row. Health and Beauty will have everything under the sun from bandages, oral hygiene (toothpaste), hair color to vitamins. We, as Americans take a lot for granted by having Walmart and other large retailers. The smaller countries have more local specialty stores. This I have learned from my travels. This probably was not even a Super Walmart. I didn't see or hear mention of the automotive department or gas station located in the parking lot.

As a Walmart associate/employee let me try to explain....First the founder, Sam Walton, wanted to sell cheaper than his competitors. So he started buying in bulk and passing on the savings to his customers. Now, since America is the most diverse country on the planet the company tries to offer something for everyone. I mean we have whites, blacks, asians, hispanics, english, irish, scots, germans, spanish, russian...etc. You name it. Also, Americans simply like to have a big choice in everything. Yeah, Walmart can be crazy and overwhelming but if you want something....Walmart is the place to go.

Walmart's not that hard. You just look around for an area that seems to have a lot of the same kinds of things you want, like plastic tubs or clothes or kitchen appliances, and then wander around that area until you find what you want. You just have to think of it as a bunch of smaller specialty stores inside one really big store, only bits and parts of each small store have been mistakenly left in little spots all over the big store. They made it that way so that you'll wander around and impulse-buy more than you came in looking for.

If you're referring to items in the center aisles, for example a four-way of tv's, they are not "mistakenly left" there. They are there because they are a feature item that is usually marked down or a temporary item in the store. They are put where there is space for them. Usually they are, if possible, near the department that they are associated with.

From my WalMart Manager friend... Sunglasses are always in four main areas of WalMart: Sports, Women's jewelry, near the pharmacy and in the vision center. Sometimes (Spring/Summer), they'll temporarily display them up near the check out counters and on the seasonal shelves near the covered Garden Supply sub-area (next to, but noting, toys. Individual toothpaste is always in the pharmacy area on a separate aisle. There is also a Travel Section (near by) that sells toothpaste in smaller tubes. Juice, by law, must have a certain % of actual fruit liquid in it, anything else must be called either punch or drink. If water needs to be added it will say "concentrate." Donuts bought off the shelf, even Krispy Kreme, need to be microwaved 20-30 seconds to be bakery edible. Things located on displays are found in their regulated spaces, but they want to "move" them or make you think of other things you need with or associated with that item. Everything is psychologicallly located, arranged and displayed to deliberately move you unconsciously through areas you might otherwise avoid to promote impulse buying. FACT: The #1 item sold in Walmart is ...bananas!

Many Wal-Mart stores have two entry/exit doorways and neither are at the side or middle because they want you to have to wander around. It gives you more opportunity to see something you didn't come for and impulse-buy things you might never have seen or known about. The bad store layout is intentional to get you to buy more things. They also move things around from time to time so you have to go looking again next time. They will rearrange the store a couple times a year, depending on what product they are trying to push.

Okay! so the doors at Walmart are in the middle of the store so that when you walk in it makes it quicker to go whichever direction you need to find whatever it is that you're looking for. We like to get there fast, get what we need fast, and get out fast. Because we are normally in a hurry

I tend to walk out of WalMart with more than I went in for. You go in to get a new pair of shoes, and then walk out with new speakers for your computer, a cheese cake, and some motor oil. It is a strange place. Do you think sunglasses cost more in Miami than in Dublin because people in Miami need them on a daily basis, and not so much in Ireland? For being overwhelmed, you did seem to make the most of it.

One of the things that really helps is when you walk into any Walmart, go inside and take a complete view standing in one place. Pharmacy/Shampoo/Meds etc one one side of the store, grocery and paper towels/toilet paper/laundry soap, on the other side. Garden center/Sporting goods in the back and all of the home stuff like towels, sheets, organization stuff in the middle. Electronics/Toys/Baby section/Shoes in the back of the store. I just realized I've been to far too many Walmart's, far too many times in my life lol

cept at my walmart the grocery is in the middle to the left just beyond that is the pharmacy, beyond that is the garden and kids toy department (and the household cleaners, tp, paper towels. make a right and there is the house paint and tools and finally at the back the automotive and sports area. turn right again and you have electronics to the left, home goods section to the right (in the middle of the store), a little more the sewing section to the left, jewelry to the right, a little more and it's shoes to the left and bras and panties to the right, and in the back corner is baby and small child stuff, turn left and it's kid clothes to the left and womens clothes to the right (middle area), a little more then it is mens clothes to the left and still woman's clothes to the right the customer service up in the front corner. Turn left again and checkstands and where you started. Ok, now I'm exhausted, gotta go rest.
