In a darker version of the same story... My girlfriend (who is an attorney now) was clerking for a judge during a murder trial. The unfortunate departed was found in a basement that should have been on Horder's and later on, during a private/personal conversation, the judge remarked that she really needed to get home to clean her own basement up. You know.. Just in case you're murdered and a bunch of people in a court room are looking at your mess for weeks on end... :/ :)

My mother worked for child services and this wouldn't qualify as bad enough to take her kids away. Their has to be evidence of negligence to the child or abuse and a dirty house doesn't qualify.

+Fernando Herrera actually wrong, neglecting a house to point of having needles, trash and bug infestations is enough to have cps take children away.
@meikusje
@meikusje 8 жыл бұрын
+Ebony Thomas If I had had to grow up in a mess like that, I would've probably called child services myself, or run away or live in a tent in the backyard or something. Kind of sad that those kids either didn't realize how fucked up such a situation is, or that they're so embarrassed that they didn't even want to get help for their own sake.

I prefer the English version of this show. They get the people to clean their own houses. All they get is a cleaning coach that shows them what to do. These people don't deserve someone to just come in and do it all for them, or else they don't appreciate it.

The thing I like best about Hoarders is that it makes me feel good about my own house. Sometimes, when I'm busy, and I don't get to clean as deeply as I like to that week, I feel like a terrible homeowner. But then, I watch this, and I'm suddenly living in the cleanest place. This show puts everything is put into perspective.

They're right: half these shows are _not_ about hoarders. They're about people who, because of depression, drug addiction or mental illness, just don't take out their trash. It's still a disorder, but it's not the same as someone who can't throw away an old pizza box because they think it might be useful and/or it's a treasure. Hoarding is when people _want_ to keep things, not when they're unable to muster the energy to throw things away.
@StonedCabbage

+Sarah You are right. This woman was not "hoarding" things she found too valuable to get rid off for whatever reason. She was simply too f'ing lazy to take her trash out and clean her freaking house. There may be some mental disease that caused this, but being a "hoarder" is not it.
@Kardia_of_Rhodes
@Kardia_of_Rhodes 7 жыл бұрын
In fact most Hoarders are usually very organized about what hey keep.
@saraha180
@saraha180 7 жыл бұрын
This was ages ago, but a few people (e.g., +Captain Mutato) seem to disagree and think that hoarding is just when you have excessive clutter, regardless of the reason." For something to be hoarding, it must involve "persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions … due to strong urges to save items and/or distress associated with discarding … [so those possessions] fill up and clutter active living areas." This comes straight from the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria of hoarding. Behavior caused by "decreased energy in Major Depressive Disorder" _specifically excludes_ a diagnosis of hoarding. TLDR: Like I said before, *it's only hoarding if people specifically want to keep the things* that are cluttering their house. If they're just indifferent or lazy or depressed then it's not hoarding. By definition.

THANK YOU!! For accurate captions. I've been to Northern Ireland for a wedding, in Marin Head, and had a very hard time understanding the accent. Had a great time and it turned out the groom was from my hometown and went golfing with my family members! Small world. These accents are far far easier to understand, but I still miss a few words here and there, and likely some slang terms that I haven't heard before. We Americans LOVE accents. My Grandma was a WWII bride from England, outside of Liverpool and never became a US citizen. She was in the RAF and worked on airplane parts. I had THREE grandparents who were drafted during WWII, only ONE is still alive. He's 91, and lost his wife of 68 years on Nov 15th, two days after she turned 92 :( Then six days later my Aunt was found dead. Then two weeks later, a friend of the family died! Needless to say, it's been a hard year and I think Trump is causing heart attacks all over the USA!! There's is some highly unethical crap going down in the US with Trump and the GOP, and if US citizens EVER had allies in the world, then we need them to do something NOW. I'm lookin at you, Germany, or Deutsche Bank! Stop hiding all the money that has been stolen from this nation! Or the money being laundered, and oh yeah, NEVER trust Goldman-Sachs to "help you." Just ask Greece how that went for them!

I've always had such a hard time watching that show. While I hate messes, and I never hoard anything, there were several objects that I've always been very attached to. I've had awful anxiety since I was little, and I used certain toys or crafts as comfort objects. Seeing people have to throw away things that they believe are important to them is really hard for me.

Limes Lemons-I think there is a major difference between keeping mementos that are important to you, and quite another thing to attach great importance to EVERYTHING. I have an aunt that is a hoarder, she lives in a retirement community and also has another house filled to the brim with stuff. Our family has cleaned and organized her house several times but it always goes back to its previous state. It's incredibly frustrating.

OMG I remember this lady! She was the craziest one I ever watched because she FOUGHT the cleaners and the psychologist the entire way and they never got to finish cleaning. Like they did maybe... 2 rooms before she lost her shit and shut it all down but then later she turned around and finished. It was suuuuuper weird.
