Yosemite National Park has been called the most beautiful place on earth. But this dramatic landscape is also brutal.
The Merced River, ironically named for mercy, grace, forgiveness, has remorselessly killed many who wandered too close.
I'm going to release my full hdr video of the iconic and deadly Mist Trail, considered a top ten hiking trail, and the quintessential Yosemite trail, but also a trail that has claimed many lives.
Stay tuned for the full HDR video. You'll never see a vide like this.

We went for our honeymoon in 1987, 12 people died that summer. There are areas where the signs say Do Not Go Past This Point, a ranger told us that what looks like a trail slopes down to vertical, is covered with loose gravel, and it's a1500 ft drop straight to the valley. Just a sign, no physical barriers. Yosemite is incredible.

Complete idiots are the only ones who fall off this. And they have signs and railings. Only idiots even need railings. Any fool can see the dangers. Most of the waterfalls and cliffs in Yosemite and this world don't have railings. You have to be able to see danger with your own judgement.

There's a great deal of truth in what you say. Unfortunately, humanity is generally so removed from the natural world that many visitors see only the pretty landscape and selfie opportunities. It's a dangerous mix. I hope you'll watch the full video when it releases this weekend.

People need to stop underestimating how apathetic nature is to our health and safety. I've been privileged to have participated in some of the bushwhacks through the coast redwoods in search of remnant old growth giants. Imo the Sequoia sempervirens rainforest in northern California is the most serene and beautiful place on Earth. But some of the paths we've treked have been absolutely brutal. Like pushing through sword ferns and huckleberry higher than our heads; stepping onto decaying ground that just collapses under foot; having to navigate downed trunks wider than your height. Adventures into the unknown are amazing, but they are dangerous and deserve more respect than they often are given. We shouldn't take it for granted.

ive got a video from 2011 mist trail, it was amazing, but yeah/ people get too close. Always someone going over the rails to "get a better photo"There are warnings everywhere but people are stupid. ive got another one from 2017/ was even bigger flow. As we got to the bottom we saw all these police and emergency vehicles racing towards the area/ i thought oh maybe a fight in the campgrounds/ nope, another dummy got too close to the water. they didnt find his body until months later when the water receded. Ive done the mist trail in all seasons and there is always something to be careful of (in winter you take a detour)

I’m sorry I feel bad for their loved ones for their loss definitely….but warning signs are placed in places for a reason! We are only human. Not super heroes. We don’t respawn. Senseless loss of life ;(

It's true. There are more than enough warning signs. And honestly, signs should not be necessary. Still, I am deeply saddened.

This place is cursed it is absolutely cursed the first death I ever saw from there is the one where the lady that jumped off half dome and she was in a prison outfit and at the last minute she didn't have her parachute and she used somebody else's and obviously it was terribly flawed because it never opened.... they were jumping off half dome & you can just run right off of it and every time somebody ran off of it and deployed their parachute &once they hit Terra Firma they would get arrested. because they were making some kind of protest out of it and I think at the time it was illegal to jump off. but you could hear that woman when she smacked the ground it reverberated all through the valley and the parachute never deployed and it showed her descent almost all the way to the end and then they pulled away right before she hit the ground. I think her husband watched her die but I think Yosemite is just cursed by Indians and any body that's not an Indian that goes in there; enter at your own risk it's a perilous place I wouldn't go there. I'm not going to mess with Indian lore. Not to mention Mother Nature can be very unforgiving.

There’s no such thing as a curse or anything spooky. Accidents happen & high risk hobbies can have those outcomes. If you watch any base jumping documentary you will hear them say how many friends they lost but cont to participate
