It's the great Acura vs Lexus reliability battle where I let you know whether or not there is any luxury car brand that can stand up against Lexus. We're talking reliability, which means ownership costs or maintenance costs, depreciation, and just how much fun one of these Acura or Lexus cars are to own.
Where we believe that Life's Too Short To Drive Boring Cars so we just don't and you shouldn't either.

Hopefully you wont need a timing cover gasket replaced anytime soon. The cost to replace will exceed all the reliability you have gotten out of the car. 2GR-FKS is reliable as long as you don't see any oil leaks.

Funny. We’ve always been a Toyota/Lexus house. My wife currently has a 2020 IS we bought new almost exactly 2 years ago. Expect for a Daytime running light crapping out, zero issues. Great review. As an owner of an 06 Base TL with 400,000 miles on the original auto transmission I must disagree with the unreliability of said auto trannies. This applies to all cars not just Honda/Acuras.

The same happens with Lincoln/Ford and Cadillac/ Chevy or not ? Definitely you have never been inside of a Lexus, not even the entry level ES 350 !!! @@64arguz yes, cheaper luxury cars borrow engines and transmissions from their affordable counterpart. Great manufacturers have unique engines and transmissions along with features in their luxury brand and when they start age they put them in their affordable cars. Audi and Volkswagen are great at this. Lexus is simply a rebadged Toyota and Acura is a rebadged Honda because Americans won’t spend top dollar on a Honda or Toyota badge. It’s different in Europe, Lexus last great car was the LFA and I’ve been in tons of luxury and affordable vehicles. No disrespect, we’re all entitled to opinions however, corporations go through great lengths to hide the truth.

@Blank00

To be fair, Acura's newest 10 speed is reliable. The horrendous 5 speed is no longer made, and the other horrendous transmission, the 9-speed, is no longer at Acura. The issues with the 10-speed have been mostly due to an electronic module, easy fix. Acura's less reliable than Lexus and their immediately previous era has been less reliable than BMW, but that's compensated by Acura's reliability climbing back up to above the Germans and Genesis due to Acura's new era

A little bit of a stilted review. You compare an MDX WITHOUT the A Spec package with an F sport RX350?? F sport trim level is NOT the volume trim level, and you compared it to an MDX. not sure if it was Technology or Advanced Level, looked like the lower end technology trim level to me. A Spec MDX looks sportier than an F sport RX350!!!

I have noticed that when an Acura or Honda goes down my street, they are usually a lot quieter than a Toyota. I find that engines that are getting premium fuel are quieter than those getting regular. And if you run regular in a vehicle that is supposed to get premium, it sounds like a sherman tank.

I would agree with you 100% on your analysis.👌One of the weakest points in Honda / Acura is their Transmissions especially when they get some miles on them. That carbon buildup was the main issue I have really noted with a Lexus.. Toyota corrected that issue when they started incorporating direct fuel injection and port fuel injection . Those engines are very reliable now and the engines really stay clean. Henceforth IMPROVED Dynamic Forced Engines They are used and a lot of new Toyotas as well as hybrids with various electric motors.
