Jeff here is my thoughts on this I think that refergerent is fine to use as is MO 99 but the important is to repair the leaks first like for example a, rub out on a copper pipe near the compressor replace valve cores then do a proper vac down pressure test then you can use that stuff or MO 99 and yes you might lose some capicity with MO 99 but here's the thing once you do the initial factory charge you are going to end up putting more in anyway to bring all the superheat and cooling back into speck with pressures while checking the pipes for sweating as for the blueon stuff the pressures bieng lower is a good thing because that means you can put more in after the factory charge to bring it pressure wize a little closer and run it colder in summer meaning to me temp is reading out the vents around 40 degrees when it's 95 degrees outside and not have the risk on the high side of the pipe busting or the system leaking or an evap coil failing because the pressures were too high in other words lower pressures leave room for expansion and clearing of more humidity and moisture on really hot days and that's a good thing.

Disregard the pressures altogether… just look at the temps and it becomes so much easier to visualize what it’s doing. Ambient + 30 , and SL temp, and evap coil temp.. sh and sc…

Hey Jeff I have been doing a bit more research on this blueon they have an app you may want to sign up for that gives you manuals on each unit. I just think some guys are going over kill on it but with Comercial applications you may have to lower the pressure switches or replace them. My concern is for residential applications some guys are replacing the non adjustable txv with adjustable ones. To lower the the pressures from the factory r 22 pressure settings I think the best aproach is to just put it in at the original factory charge for a residential application and then adjust the charge with more until the pressures are in range but this use 80 percent less stuff is overkill you need to adjust acordingly based on each system. But they do have manuals on the blueon app including for a lot of those Comercial units I have seen you work on. For me lower pressures are fine if that means more efficiency and bieng able to put more in to bring suction line or low pressure temos into range. Hope this helps but please Jeff keep us posted with testing this stuff.

Your welcome I fave been seeing a lot of trashing of blueon recently because they did have a lawsuit that was settled in 2021 but that was from Comercial units bieng tested that had issues tjsy cost a lot to corect so thats why blueon is gong so nuts with pressure switches and stuff Jeff like adjustable txvs and in some cases yes maybe replacing a piston with an adjustable txv is not a bad idea but again it depends on each unit. But if that means keeping residential and Comercial units running tnY originally took r 22 VS, replacement that's what I think needs to be done until they figure the heck out a suitable r 410a replacement but honestly Jeff I think r 458 a could work on 410a systems too you would just need to change pressure switches again on the high and low side depending on the application and replace with adjustable txvs. Then I think you could run it in 410a systems too. Just my thoughts

Glide suggests otherwise: 12.17 temp glide for R458A. The odds aren't with you, especially if you have leaks and it gets hot. Leaks + glide you only make it worse by topping it up. Not that it's going to work great anyway under a heavy load and high outdoor ambient 95F and up. I understand R22 freon is expensive but you want it to work when it's hot don't you? (at least this is how I explain it) If everytime the unit leaks refrigerant you have to pull everything out of it to recharge it with virgin refrigerant it's not saving you anything. If you don't recharge it fresh with virgin + leak free system your best bet is that it kills the compressor so you can then sell them a new AC unit with a different refrigerant.

I doubt anything will be as good overall as R-22 is. But if we can get close, without spending a fortune, that will be good enough. Money spent is gone forever, and so is the interest income you would have earned had you kept the money and invested it.

They claim it is more efficient and runs at lower pressures than R22. According to your gauges, they are right.

Yea they say it runs at the same capacity without having to change oil. With most of the R-4xxx refrigerants you either lose some capacity but don’t have to change the oil or go through the process of changing the oil to keep the same capacity. This is the best of both worlds…..they say.
