I'm an American granny and never knew anything about K-pop until BTS. If not for them I would probably still be in the dark. Discovered them about 5 years ago, and they helped me get through a period of depression. I'm still a fan and waiting for their comeback. Because of them I have discovered other groups and have become their fan also. To me, BTS is a legend. People need to realize just how many people there are like me who would never have become acquainted with K-pop without BTS. So, yes, they are bigger than k-pop. There are other groups who are good and are successful. But, without BTS, I would never have discovered them.

I’m also Silver Army. Discovered BTS at beginning of COVID. My story mirrors yours. BTS will always be my “home” but I have branched out. The other groups I follow are Shinee, EXO, WayV, and solo Taemin. Some Stray Kids. (Of course solo BTS! Very much looking forward to 2025.) I’m curious about who you might be listening to?

@marshatackett9484 EXO, Stray Kids, TXT, Monsta-X, Taemin, many others. The Rose has become a favorite since I discovered Woosung in Suga's MV of "Snooze". His voice is mesmerizing. Also some of the older groups like Rain. Also solo Henry Lau, especially "Trap". I'm always discovering more. Too many to list them all but those are some favorites. I'm also huge fan of K-dramas too, lol. Subscribed to Netflix just so I could watch them.

I hope most i-fans don't think like you it is embarrassing. I'm ARMY and 66 years old. I'm Australian. I discovered BTS because I heard an angels voice singing an OST in a kdrama. It was V. I then learnt and fell in love with BTS, their music, their values, their personalities, and work ethic. I have since visited South Korea twice, I cook Korean food and I am learning hangeul. Although it is very hard to learn. Their impact is so profound in my life. They helped me through a very difficult time and I came out the other side a better person. I visit the magic shop often, awaiting their return from military service. They are simply amazing, talented men. Thank you for providing the hard facts and analysis that confirms what all ARMYs know in their heart. You do good work and I appreciate it.

Big Hit and BTS were brilliant with marketing. They weren't invited to programs so they created their own programs. The boys spent hours upon hours communicating directly with their fans FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. Brilliant! IMO, that direct communication and allowing fans to see their true selves (silliness as well as sadness) was key in building the fandom.

I'm an Egyptian Army. Before BTS I had no idea k-pop was even a thing I'd just seen Psy's Gangnam Style and thought it was a cool song by an Asian artist but that was it. I slept on BTS for years because I believed in k-pop stereotypes unfortunately and only decided to give them a chance a year ago and that's when I became Army. I fell in love with everything about them instantly their versatile music, endless skills, lyrics, message, personalities, charisma, authenticity, dedication to their craft. bonds with each other and with Army, as well as many other things there's nothing to dislike. I tried exploring many groups at the same time and I did like some others but for the most part they all sound the same to me and none hit like BTS did. BTS really are a phenomena of their own. They changed the culture, they have their own sound and concepts and their achievements and impact inside and outside of music are unmatched. They're literally being taught in schools around the world as we speak. BTS paved the way and nobody can ever come close to their achievements. I can't wait for them to get back in 2025. Let's continue to support them until then because they deserve the world 💜

I don’t know why but the guys caught my attention. Changed me to be a better person and I realised how ignorant and idiotic I was about different cultures around the world. Bts is special for me bcz they not only opened Korea for me but also different south east countries like China, Thailand and many other. Fell in love with kdramas and k-food, their dress and culture. Although also learn the dark sides like burning sun scandal and mistreatment of women. But bts made is possible for me to appreciate different cultures.

Who would have ever thought seven guys dressed in satin and singing in Korean would change my life. The pandemic and the insane political climate were a dark period .Finding BTS and being amazed at the artistry and creativity of their music was lifesaving. watching their uncontrollable antics and seeing then just being happy brought a smile to me.Always humble and never acting entitled they are a true inspiration.I saw them in Vegas and it will always be one of my greatest memories. Their solo endeavors proved just how talented they are individually and JK took over the world with one album in a five month span.Hes still on the charts even though he has enlisted. Don’t ever even have the thought they are over. In a IHeart Radio poll Army won best fan group over Taylor Swift and we know how huge her fan base is. BTS starts and ends every concert with a shout out to Army. They truly love and care about us and we will forever love them 💜THE BEST IS YET TO COME

I think all K-pop fans know this when it comes to the facts and figures. But I think the perspective is wrong. I don't think BTS is bigger than K-pop, I personally would say that they were never really K-pop at all. (Note I have never seen BTS have an issue with the K-pop label, only fans) Yes, they competed in K-pop music shows, yes they mixed in those circles, but I would argue they were different from the start. They always skirted around the edges of the scene, not really fitting in with K-pop and not really fitting in with regular pop. They had a unique identity all of their own from the start. BTS has so much respect for current artists and the ones that came before. It was Sao Taeji who picked them to work with and it was a dream come true for BTS. They want to learn from older artists and be mentors for the younger. Suchwita was a great example of this where Yoongi gave props to Taeyang of Big Bang while praising Woozi of Seventeen. I also feel for Big Hit/Hybe who get a lot of backlash. As if they would sabotage their biggest asset. Ridiculous! I mean Tae shot 5 videos in Spain. Can you imagine the logistics and the work it took to make that happen? And in a cave? Come on, get real. When it comes down to the basics, the bottom line, it is all about the music. BTS is far superior musically and lyrically over most artists, not just K-pop, and keeps us coming back for more. Mic drop. The End.💜

Bts was very much criticised and mocked by kpop at their starting period..people made fun of their name bangtan sonyeondan . All the 3 big companies of kpop looked down upon them . Bangtan was mocked saying that they were copying exo. They were cut off from the shows. Mocked at their dressing style . But they accepted all this criticism and worked harder. In 2016 Busan one asian festival they were pulled out of the line last minute. But Armies were sad so bts once again requested the organisers to allow them to perform. At last they agreed but said they wont be telecasted on tv , the organisers didn’t even remove the confetti or clear the stage for their performance . Still they performed for armies.. When they got their first award competing against the bands from Big 3 it was a turning point in the history of kpop. They proved that through hardwork one can win against all the odds. Later they become a huge success among western fans . And Bang PD was the one who first realized this. That man definitely played an important role in their success. ( i know he is not the perfect one in the field and i cannt say he is not 'greedy ' .. but i know one thing for sure without him Bts would not have formed. The members wouldn't have got an opportunity to get together . ) I wish people would at least get to know their story before criticizing them . The story of bangtan is very inspiring and can be a great life lesson to all people.. And i would divide the world into 2 kinds of people -- one group who dont know about them or their story and make fun of them --- and the rest who knows their story and respect them. I am not saying everyone who knows their story is an army or a fan. But i am 100 percent sure that those who know about their story wont hate them... Bangtan has changed my life a lot. They inspire me to face challenges in my life and to work harder even more. They taught me to prioritie my own happiness and to love myself before loving anyone else.. And i will always wait for them . They have locked us in their 'magic shop" . They have the key to this . Once they come back on june 21 2025 it will be open and then we ( armies and bts ) would start our journey .. Apobangpo.

I have to say I always appreciate your analyses - so clear and concise! I have watched BTS grow and prosper since their debut in 2013. They went from nothing, on a wing and a prayer and Bang PD’s vision, to global sensations. I would hope that people realize that the 7 men of BTS are highly educated and acutely aware of the business world in entertainment and management. Six of the 7 have completed their masters degrees - soooo - they are not just puppet entertainers, but an integral part of their own evolution and that of Big Hit, HYBE, and the spotlight on South Korea as a destination as well as their economy. From Ramen brands to haute couture, BTS has plastered themselves all over the globe. I love those boys even if I am almost old enough to be their grandma. 😊I hope when they return to Big Hit in 2025 they can achieve their dreams and keep growing as artists and business men! Probably Big Bang, Girls Generation and 2NE1, I'm not 100% sure, but they were really big. (They never made it big internationally or domestically the way BTS has... that's why it was so hard for BTS when the huge fame came, there was no group before them that they could go to for advice that could understand their level of fame, that's why Suga wants to help younger artists.)

I don't think any kpop group will ever reach or match their success, though the few that are doing well is because BTS paved the way and made things much easier for other groups that are kpop. You have to put the next groups 2 thru 10 together to match the success BTS has. Army for life.

Yes Financials is 100% what makes them bigger and wouldn't be what they are without BTS. But to me BTS IS BIGGER THAN KPOP because of everything they do as whole. What these done financially but what doors they've opened like the other before them cracking it open BTS kicked it down. But I have never seen another group do what BTS has done and I have never seen fans do as but as ARMY has do e for BTS and fellow ARMYS. I think they are bigger because they are ABOVE KPOP. I dont think nobody can reach their level and shouldn't either. As BTS says there won't be another BTS. I SAY Just be yourselves. Don't be someone else or you could fail because your fake that's what I think. BTS are so sincere and humble. I know the other KPOP artist are really good. And their fans love them too but I've never seen the effort put in as much as ARMYS. But one thing I wish is that there wasn't wars between fans. KPOP Artists heck any Artist respect and enjoy each other's music so why can the fans. It's Sad. I'm 100% ARMY and don't listen to other KPOP groups on the regular but I do like other music other genres. I like Rock, Country. Kpop, Spanish, HipHop, except KPOP I grew up with all these. Til 4 years ago. That's when BTS found me and I've been sold ever since but I still to other music and love it. Also BTS Songs send messages deep loving messages and others may too but not like BTS. I haven't seen anything like them. Like JHOPE said it was destiny. AND I BELIEVE IT. Nobody is perfect but the are darn near close. I've never seen anything like it.

BTS literally made south korea popular In india the general public did not know anything about South Korea heck few dis not even know that there is a country named korea And know everyone literally EVERYONE associates the name south korea with BTS ask anyone be it a labourer or a big doctor everyone associates south Korea with BTS but keep in mind it is not always vice-versa there still are people who know BTS but do not know form where they are and no you can't blame them with indian markets being open for global imports and exports in late 1990s it is natural that people do not know that much about so many countries BTS literally are bigger than hybe than kpop industry as a whole and hell they are only included in conversations when big artists like Taylor swift, biber and MJ are being talked about. Nobody knows of any other artist than BTS in india *m not talking about kpop fans/anime fans ONLY general public* while few do know abt a single girl group but that is also a rarety And if this does not proove their influence idk what does

the reason BTS is so big is because they have expanded their brand in diffrent areas. they have tiny tan, bt21 and bts universe content incuding books and other mech not to mention a kdrama and mobile game. they have so much merch and army is buying all of it. when you look at other groups i never see the same passion that we have for BTS so they would never sell as much merch as BTS. i heard someagency complained about BTS is everywhere.. well yes of corse a company is going to brach out if they se a profit to be made. sm and kakao also have an agentcy with actors so id think it´s only music

😂😅 Let me give you this analog! A restaurant's main selling is their food, right? Have you heard any restaurant which their main revenue is coming from selling their merchs or advertisement/promotions tools??? How good the advertisement or promotion tools, all those just will be the supporting post in order to soar of the selling food as the main product. Same as BTS. do you think all merchs you mentions contribute significantly to revenue than BTS's activity itself??? You can check how much was the revenue from Suga solo tour??? It was only solo tour in 2 cities of US, 1 city each of Spore, Indonesia and Thailand, Korea and it was only 2 months! While BTS's concert before pandemic were massively in several cities of Asia, Europe countries and some states of US. They fulled stadium, not arena! And they did it continuesly within 5 years and stopped just by pandemic.

This will help Army’s that don’t know about the boy’s impact or people that are curious about BTS no doubt but as you have already proven, this or any logical take for that matter won’t make most haters stop hating BTS. What sane person does that you just pointed out on the member of a group’s video you don’t like? There’s nothing you tell that person and most BTS haters that’ll get through to them. Most BTS hate is baseless and based on ridiculous misunderstanding. As a long time army and casual kpop fan, it's been sad to see people online over these past couple of weeks, belittling and honestly minimizing the talent and force that is bts. The numbers don't lie but it's so easy for people to try and change them and create narratives that uplift their fav groups while at the same time the only reason these groups and fans are even striving for certain sales/goals/titles is because of the standard bts has set in the kpop industry.

BTS are amazing artists! It's however good to acknowledge that there's been a good management and investment done, overall, so they could grow into Hybe and diversify, giving their business longevity. And this success imho explains why it's being presently attacked on all front. The error is to think that just because BTS disappears or Hybe gets a bad reputation or lower income it gives their artists, company or business a better chance. That's not true: atm imho Hybe is a locomotive with BTS as engine pulling the rest of the kpop industry. Pulling them down risks to crumble their deck of card because kpop and k-anything is still a new kid on the global market. It would be far more clever to associate, collaborate and support while continuing to strive for their own excellence. What do you think? Very much looking forward to the rest of the series. Growing up I was into alternative, rock, grunge, etc. and as I grew up I always preferred artists who create, write, and envision their own expressions. Hence, though I enjoy listening to generic pop music I would never claim to be an all out fan of someone I didn’t think was in the driver’s seat of their art. All this is to say, hence I STAYED AWAY FROM K-POP. BTS brought me to K-pop and helped me discover other Korean artists (both Indy and K-pop) - and they only bought me here because I saw that they were like the rock bands I loved growing up, that is, they had their own point of view that they worked hard to put out. Maybe pop fans always would have found K-pop, but Rock, hip hop, jazz, and other genre fans WOULD NOT find K-pop if it wasn’t for BTS …. THEY ARE ARTISTS that transcend genre.

As an American grandmother and great grandmother I came to know BTS in December 2022, so I am still new. One thing I have learned is that BTS doesn’t fit into any standard mold of what Kpop is considered. They have broken all molds and records. Those that try to disregard their contributions to the music industry are never going to understand, they don’t want to. They would rather spew hatful nonsense than accept that BTS has surpassed everyone’s expectations. Seven “normal” boys from SK are and will always remain the changing face of Kpop. Are they perfect, no because they are also human. They make mistakes but the difference is they own those mistakes and learn from them and make us also learn from them. We as a fandom, whether you consider yourself Army or not, should not be making things harder for the group. They have enough negativity being aimed towards them. We as Army should be their first line of defense not the Judas that harms them. We all have our bias, but as Army we should be supporting ALL of the guys. 🥰 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
