the brake pad not going down all the way is a big safety hazard, since the top of the pad isnt contacting the rotor this means that when the pads wear down they will press against each other instead of the rotor.

I agree. If you previously had Shimano rotors on there the caliper might be set up for 203mm and the Hope will probably be 200mm. The size should be written on the adaptor as part of the model number, for example I have a Shimano SM-MA90-F203P/PM sitting in front of me which is to take 180mm 'post' mount up to 203mm.

Be prepared for some mysterious creaking developing around the BB. It won’t be the BB though, it’ll be that garbage Next crankset. I’ve had delamination issues in two sets. It’s a common problem with them and RaceFace will not warranty them. Sweet bike!

The post mount on the 38 is for a 200mm rotor, you use a different washer on the bolts for a 203mm rotor. If this was not the case you would not be able to run SRAM brakes on a 38.

That's a great looking trail, it looks like my local trails here in the UK. Lots of mud and rocks but mine has a crap ton of slippery roots too. Sometmes you just gotta ride when it wet and muddy, like here in the UK 80% of the year the trails will be like that, just gotta take it as it comes. Mud guards and bike washes exist for a reason I guess :)

It depends where you get the bike from, proper check and a bit of luck :) Good video!

Now that the trails in SoCal are overgrown with our super bloom from all the rains, my buddies are complaining about brake levers being hit by brush. I don’t even notice it.. having ridden motorcycles for years I guess it’s just something I’m used to, but there is zero downside to hand guards and they offer protection from branches and on cool winter night rides my hands are warmer since they’re not getting 15 mph breeze the entire time

@@dylan-5287 i have used brake cleaner that is suposed to be wiped off after it dries, but the pads just can't seem to get the same bite as before and i'm missing about 40% of the brake's strenght, despite bleeding them onto near perfection and using many tricks to get the pads to bed in. I have sanded the rotors with a not too fine nor too aggresive paper and that hasn't worked either, tried to sand the pads and to rub them toghether with water like Doddy from GMBN advices. The good thing is that i had a lot of braking to spare so i don't mind, as i can still stop perfectly fine.

The bikes similar to specialized stump jumper evo? I would never buy a mullet. Can you imagine riding my long distance 40-60 and carrying 2-4 tubes 27.5 and 29? Horrible. I am looking at the yeti sb160 😅. I got the yeti sb140 29er and I love it! Super light, fast, and incredible ride!

Shimano rotors are 180,203.. etc, your hope rotor is 200mm, that's why you need a smaller adaptor. You need one with 20mm rise to use this rotor safely.

You had a very different experience with the Pro's Closet. Maybe having a KZfaq channel helps with that. I bought a Guerilla Gravity. Had a Magura rotor with a Sram caliper. They just adjusted the contact down so it wouldn't drag. The caliper and rotor both needed to be replaced. Derailleur needed to be replaced. Frame was banged up far beyond what the pictures showed. Chain stay guards were barely hanging on. The list goes on, it was a total basket case that took a lot of money to get right. Wouldn't do it again.

I reckon you’ve got a 203 caliper setup on a 200 rotor. Change those adapters asap. 👍🏼👍🏼

Hey Evan please help me understand, I love your videos but recently I can’t help but question sometimes. A couple of videos ago you had the carbon vs aluminum frame video in which you said aluminum is better and I believe it was in that same video where you said you didn’t like fox factory suspension either. But here we are with this, I guess I just don’t understand some of your reasoning sometimes and it’s a little confusing

My bikes previous owner said he got it serviced right before I bought it and I didn’t have too much time to test it when I bought it. Took it home and the pivot linkage was full of sand, the bearings were caked, the right brake didn’t work, and the gears didn’t shift 😂😂😂 great bike though

@@EvansMTBSaga That's more my style for the terrain I ride. Lots of climbs for the short steep descents. You can get this build lighter for everyday use if you go with a Lyric or Fox 36, but a 38 or Zeb fits the bike parks you ride. It can fit a coil, but then you add weight. Seems like a quiver killer for many riders who frequent mixed tech terrain. Gulevich rides the biggest stuff on this bike.

@@rrolleman4879 I ride my suspension stiff like pros. Always have. I am an athletic rider, and your best suspension is always with you... your arms and legs. Forgiving means sloppy on the terrain I ride. A lot more trials and slow tech stuff, but needing ample suspension and a nimble bike. On a 30 lbs.150/130 Stumpy now, but I need more bike. All-Mountain/Enduro Light is my next bike. This is a serious contender bc it is firm.

Riding in the mud is 100% dependent on where you are riding. Some soil types are fine to ride in the mud while others get destroyed and are hard to fix. I just rode Galbraith in Bellingham, WA and wet mud riding is normal and allowed there. Riding in the mud is a different kind of fun but boy is it messy and annoying to clean up! My home trails you are not allowed to ride in the mud as it makes them incredibly hard to repair.
