Went through Careerist over CourseCareers for the same reason you mentioned. You did a great job explaining this. Your application process would be valuable to a lot of people.

Hey Angie - it's difficult to break into tech in spite of your racial/ethnic background. If possible, you want to continue doing projects to gain experience until you make that break. Best to you.

There are a number of great tech bootcamps available. I mention two in the video. Careerist worked for me, but it is not a one-stop shop that is right for everyone. And there are more cost-effective alternatives.

One thing people have to remember is that Cyrus landed that job during COVID. The tech space was totally different then and they were hiring everyone because it was a demand for remote workers

@@Rells26 Yes. Timing means a lot. In early 2023, the tech industry had the largest number of layoffs on record. Yes..there are still jobs out there, but landscape has changed quite a bit.

So... At the end of the day you did the bootcamp and got hired.. i dont see the problem 😂. If people are saying that tech companies are hiring people of color(im a person of color by the way) or have a need for them but the numbers dont statistically add up that's another issue in the tech industry as a whole, not a fault with careerist. I would re title the video its misleading.

@@bigstv15 pretty sure integrity and reputation is more value of an asset than an outlier result. From what I gather if the talk = the walk the results and stats should support. Its apparent Careerist fails miserably in that regard and that is the bigger picture .

I'm confused as to how Careerist is lying to black people specifically. Like it looks like anyone can hop on there and go through the same processes so how does this pertain to black people specifically
@HardenTheGift
@HardenTheGift Жыл бұрын
The title speaks to the relative distribution of people who enroll in the program. Likely because we tend to be more open to higher-paying opportunities with lower barriers to entry than other groups of people. Also...I think you mean "only" and not "specifically," but in either case, the title does not exclude non-black people.

@@HardenTheGift How is it Careerists fault though that black people "tend to be more open to higher-paying opportunities with lower barriers to entry than other groups of people"? If the title does not exclude non-black people then why word it that way? The title makes it seem like Careerist is targeting black people and black people specifically. And I mean specifically. The words can be used interchangeably depending on the topic so I don't know what the point of attempting to correct was for and either way it's not even on topic if you understood what I was implying

@@HardenTheGift The title and content of the video makes it seem like Careerist has some kind of mental control over black people. As if we can't choose to research the programs and make a decision on our own. It seems like yet again accountability is being avoided. "Careerist is lying to black people cause you aren't guaranteed a 6 figure career in tech within months". It's dumb
@HardenTheGift

@@Dedric I wouldn't blame Careerist for how people make decisions, but I believe that institutions should use honest marketing practices, especially when publicizing expected financial outcomes. Recently, a class-action lawsuit was filed against USC for its marketing practices targeted at low-income communities, and practices by Careerist are similar. The argument about using "Black..." in the title is essentially the same as that used by critics against the slogan "Black Lives Matter." That the exclusion of non-Black people in the title is a way of stating that the lives of non-Black people didn't matter. This logic is incorrect. Also, there is a difference between "specifically" and "only" within the context here. This is because while "Black people" were specified in the text (which you correctly stated), they were not necessarily specified as the only ones impacted. For example, the statement “I went to the park yesterday” does not mean that I was the only one who went to the park yesterday. Ultimately, they were specified because of the disproportionate percentages of Blacks who flock to the program only to be disappointed graduates afterward.

@@HardenTheGift Comparing the title of a KZfaq video to a political movement is absurd. Not only is the title pertaining to black people specifically, but you're making them the main topic of video as well. Again how is it Careerist's fault that "Blacks who flock to the program" leave as "disappointed graduates". This comes with anyone trying to use any program. There's people who go to accredited University's paying thousands of dollars only to end up leaving disappointed. You're doing everything, but answering my question. How is Careerist lying to black people specifically, and I mean specifically, when anyone is able to apply and have the same results good or bad. If the title doesn't necessarily exclude the idea that other races are affected then why title it as if black people are the only ones being affected. At the end of the day it seems like you're either avoiding accountability for black people's lack of research before going into these programs or you're purposely titling the video that way to get shock views. Either way it's dumb.
