Here are the key takeaways from Thomas DeLauer's discussion on dairy and insulin resistance: 1. **Dairy and Insulin Sensitivity**: Dairy can decrease insulin sensitivity, with studies showing a 14.7% decrease among women consuming a high dairy diet. However, the impact is more nuanced than initially apparent. 2. **Insulin to Glucagon Ratio**: The insulin spike caused by dairy is moderated by glucagon, another hormone. While dairy, particularly whey protein, is insulinogenic (promotes insulin production), glucagon helps prevent hypoglycemia by balancing the insulin's effect on blood glucose levels. 3. **Protein Absorption Dynamics**: When protein from dairy is consumed, it spikes insulin to help protein absorption into cells, but glucagon is also released to ensure blood glucose levels do not drop too low. 4. **Dairy Choices**: For those concerned about insulin resistance, opt for dairy products lower in whey and with slower digestion rates, such as higher fat Greek yogurt, Bulgarian yogurt, and cottage cheese. These choices help manage insulin response better due to their composition and digestion time. 5. **Avoid Certain Dairy Products**: Regular milk and half-and-half might be less ideal for those worried about insulin spikes. Instead, heavier creams are recommended because they potentially lead to a more moderated insulin response. 6. **Understanding and Managing Dairy Consumption**: Understanding the effects of dairy on insulin and glucose dynamics is crucial. Choosing the right type of dairy products and being aware of how they affect your body can help manage or prevent insulin resistance.

I used to eat a lot of full fat, organic dairy. Loads of cream, cheese, yoghurt, milk, butter. I experimented with giving it up, and my menstrual cycles instantly become lighter, shorter, and pain free. Before cutting out dairy, my periods were long, heavy, and painful. It's been life changing for me. I consumed dairy on holiday, and the cycle after that was painful, long, and heavy again. I'm going to see if I can tolerate A2 dairy this month. I really miss dairy, so I'm really hoping that the A2 won't affect me like the A1 dairy does.

I take stelara and it couldnt hold back my flare ups. Noticed a few small patches here there coming to surface. On top of that, I noticed weight gain and a higher BP. About 3 weeks ago, i cut back on milk. I have now maybe a half gallon in a week. I went to the urgent care for a cut i got. They did my BP there, and it was down. I do get nervouse so it was 144/90 last November it was 165/a slightly larger number, and i can't remember. I know to have milk now in moderation, but im gonna stop having milk 99% of the time.

I consume a lot of A2 dairy. I avoid full fat and fat free and stick with 2% (mid-fat). I'm a nurse. I usually don't have time to heat and eat a meal at work. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and low GI fruit gets me through the day. Breakfast is always egg, meat, spinach or broccoli, potato, cottage cheese, and cheddar casserole that I bake on Saturday and cut into squares. It covers all the bases, tastes great, and is hearty enough to get me through most of a 10 hour shift. My afternoon treat is 1 square of DARK chocolate and my vitamin D gummies. Don't knock it til you've tried it. I'm almost 60, healthy, and run circles around everyone I work with. I feel better than I did when I started working 36 years ago. At that time, low fat/high carb was the wisdom of the day. All of my diabetic patients got fatter and needed more and more insulin. Even the ones in the hospital got high carb/low fat. It was a terrible experiment.

@@samanthahobbs1978 If you like to cook, it's very fast to put the breakfast casserole together. 1 cup of diced ham, 1 cup of frozen spinich, 1 cup of diced frozen potatoes (I buy those at the store for convenience), 1/2 cup shredded cheddar. I put that all in a big mixing bowl and put in the fridge on Friday night. You can add the seasonings you like. I usually add some dehydrated onion flakes, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. On Saturday morning, I crack 1 dozen eggs into my blender an add 1 cup of cottage cheese. Whiz that together and pour into the bowl of meat, cheese and veg. Mix well and bake in an oiled 9x13 casserole dish at 375° for about 45 minutes. I let mine cool and then cut it into squares. It stacks very neatly into a plastic container that I take to work on Monday. I have a homemade breakfast that I can heat in the work microwave and eat before my patients start showing up. It's good made with leftover chicken and broccoli or cooked ground beef and chopped tomatoes if you want to give it a Mexican flare. I change up the meat and veg components so it never gets boring. The little bit of potato gets spread out over the entire week so the carbs are low. Hope that helps! Mine is a two day process because I work a full day on Friday and the little bit of prep on Friday night gives me a headstart on my Saturday cooking. I prep the rest of my meals for the week on Saturday. This week, it's going to be pork roast, a low carb veg and probably seasoned rice. I don't mind eating the same dinner every night after work. I'm usually too tired to care. Lol It's great that you're concerned about your parents nutrition. My mother is 85 and also diabetic and still eats frosted flakes cereal so I feel your pain! 🤣

I drink milk with a thick layer of cream on the top. Mostly, I ferment it into yogurt and kefir. Its as close to raw as you can get, without being raw. I live in a state that restricts our citizens' rights and makes it difficult to get raw milk. I grew up on raw milk and was never sick. Ultra pasteurized kills all the beneficial enzymes and what does that do to the milk? It can't be good, in my opinion, but I don't know for sure.

You won’t go past 10 on Spike on any source of protein especially I have tested this theory literally 100 times fat will hinder the spike and make it a Hill rather than a mountain nowhere anywhere can you find that protein will spike you? It’s the sugar in the milk that spikes not the protein cards of sugar milk spikes you mixed with the protein elevate your insulin protein by itself does not look at Dr Ben bickman Especially his low-carb talk

All this BS muddies the picture and merely adds confusion to the overweight persons needing this. He recommends full fat dairy to overcome this "issue", like wtf! Point is, decrease your calories and/or move more, to loose weight, and all this talk about insulin and sensitivity to such, is a red hearing. Guess what's the best way to improve insulin sensitivity... Loosing fat, and that is done by caloric defecit irregardless of insulin resistance or not, which infact specifically been studied in one case to not make it harder. The more overweight and hence, insulin resistant you are, the easier it is to loose weight, think my 600 pound life, as good example and extreme cases of insulin resistance(well, they're on a low carb diet, but still, a 1200 kcal non low-carb diet, would yield roughly same effect, except the much bigger initial water weight looses in the low-carb one, though at that low kcal amount, probably have to go low-carb to make room for enough protein, plus helps for satiety and cravings reasons too). Damn, grinds my wheels this... Low fat Greek youghurt is an amazing diet food, come on, do better man, than to recommend the full fat version instead, because of insulin! Also no it's not because of glucagon ratio that insulin isn't "bad" here... It's because temporarily raised insulin by itself isn't "fattening" outside of a caloric surplus dammit! You cannot store what you don't have(fat storage hormone and calories) and guess what lowers total 24 hour insulin secreation all by itself... A freakin' caloric defecit.... Nice day y'all :) Thanks for vid regardless.
