He basically just reads from a Wikipedia and than interjects his own bad jokes and personal feelings / politics into the content. There is no substance or true medical diagnosis in his content… so I do appreciate him in the beginning at least letting us know when he says “he’s not diagnosing anyone” because he isn’t. He’s just reading a Wikipedia and providing his own personal feelings in the summery. It’s pretty lazy content easily digestible for the average viewer.

What I find strange is that in none of the assessments on Dahmer that I've seen is his almost certain Asperger's Syndrome included in the assessment. This can be excused in assessments done of him at the time when AS was barely recognized, but 25-30 years on it's strange why it is overlooked. This is not to say the AS was in any way responsible for the crimes he committed, but it would have substantially contributed to his feelings of isolation from a young age,difficulty with making friends and his intense and solitary hobbies and pursuits. He was quoted as saying in an interview that he believed he would never be able to understand or make deep connections with other people. Clearly this would have given rise to certain personality traits and combined with both parents being emotionally unavailable to him, being left to his own devices, constant conflict between his parents and virtually no guidance from either of them, it's clear that this would worsen any psychological problems he developed as he got older.

Dahmer was telling people what they want to hear. In jail, apparently he was arranging his food in an efergy to human body parts and using Ketchup as blood to freak out the other inmates. He was not sorry, sorry he got caught. He figured he might aswel go on the "Why did I do these evil things?" calmly pondering with the prime time host etc. Its actually creepy AF, its like interviewing a great white shark about how it ate a Seal.

From a marketer's perspective, it might be wise for you not to insist too much on Todd Grande's case because downplaying competitors is a double-edged sword that tends to result in poor personal PR, for the detractor(s), in the long run (and possibly lead to pursuits).

I would imagine that the use of both platforms, even as "competitors", is an excellent way to build a fan base for both. Now let's see what the good doctor (imagined or real) has to say.
Жыл бұрын
@@cht2162 @A Psych For Sore Minds I'll assume that by "platform" you are referring to both channels. Quite honestly, my own reading of the academic literature would rather suggest sub-optimal results by using Dr. Das' current approach. Firstly, this kind of video tends to polarize hardcore fans (brand evangelists) on both sides (Marticotte et al., 2016). People who love Dr. Grande are likely to be outraged whereas those who already hate him might enjoy the Schadenfreude (malign pleasure to witness someone else misfortune). Secondly, a series of five studies suggest that controversy hurts the brand, in occurrence Dr. Das, significantly more among those against the stand than it increases the approbation among the believers (Mukherjee et Althuizen, 2020). Furthermore, consumers tend to expect more and more ethicality from brands (Das et al., 2019). Hence, I would expect that fair play would be important for most viewers, especially those with neutral feelings about both channels. Thirdly, Dr. Das could of course choose to build his brand upon correcting other doctors, but it is not what is recommended in the literature. For a human brand (Thomson, 2006), such as an influencer, it is recommended to build one's brand by interacting with the fans, being authentic, and making the fans feel competent. One of my professors, Amélie Guèvremont (2018), suggests that transparency (e.g. showing one's own vulnerability), virtuousness (pursuing nobility and high values), and proximity (positive interaction with the fans) are the pillar of a new brand (let's say influencer) to build an online community. Therefore, if I wanted to piggyback on Dr. Grande's channel, I'd rather choose to stimulate positive feelings since, as you mentioned, there's like to be some overlap among their fanbases. The best scenario for both, of course, would be for Dr. Das to seek to collaborate with Dr. Grande rather than engage in producing adversarial content. Conversely, if I was to choose the adversarial route, I would suggest going all the way and criticizing multiple channels rather than zooming in on Todd Grande's blunders. That being said, I am not sure I would like my name to be associated with some much negativity since I'd expect harsh retaliation and criticism in the long run...

Thank you for this. I honestly thought Dr Grande had either a doctorate in clinical psychology or was a psychiatrist. What's your view on Jeffrey Dahmer's abandonment issues, especially given that his mother was emotionally unavailable during his infancy (makes me think of Bowlby's and Ainsworth's 'infant attachment theory'). He even said he felt guilty for her postpartum depression. He obviously didn't have a healthy adult relationship modelled to him, and I believe his father showed little or no empathy towards Jeffrey's mother when she attempted suicide. In an interview, his father commented that if Jeffrey had told him that he was homosexual, he would have told his son it was a sin and would have tried to do something about it. I also think his father showed special interest in his son's fascination with dead animals, including when he was gutting fish during fishing trips. It's clear that Dahmer needed love and recognition from his parents and that he got most of this from his male role model, but it was for odd things. He was clearly going through childhood turmoil and didn't know how to deal with it so "self medicated" with alcohol. Also, do you think that the medications his mother was on during pregnancy affected his developing brain? And what about epigenetics? Not excusing his terrible actions - just my unprofessional take on things as he's rather an enigma. Unlike Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer showed remorse and didn't try to shift the blame. Not really unempathetic like a psychopath; more like a sociopath.

There’s always confusion about Jeffrey being a sociopath or psychopath, but in the way that he would’ve possibly had some empathy if he was raised even a pinch correctly, it might tell us that he had light symptoms of an autism spectrum disorder, due to congenital issues and mom doing drugs

I’ve compassion for Dahmer, (does not mean I’m Ok with what he did by NO MEANS)! Everything I read about him he had problems from the get go. His mother had psychiatric problems during pregnancy & she was given psychotropic drugs WHILE pregnant). When the feelings to ki// began for Dahmer he stayed perpetually drunk. Who was going to help him? He would of been shunned if he shared what was going on with anyone. If he could’ve been properly psychiatrically treated, all these young men may be alive today. It’s time we realistically address people who are plauged with such demons in order to slow down or stop such horrific acts from people suffering these types of severe mental illness/problems. I pray for all who were harmed by him & all who may continue to suffer because of his actions. 🙏🏼

Dahmer didn't kill because of internalized homophobia. Only one of the numerous doctors , Dr. Palermo, came up with that claim, and Palermo was pretty off with other statements about Dahmer's mental health issues. His conclusions regarding a possible diagnosis differed greatly from the other psychiatrists' statements. A few of them even commented later that they found Palermo's claims to be very off. Taking this doctor's theory, which was found outlandish even by his colleagues, and take it as a basis for your claim that Dahmer killed because he hated homosexuals seems unprofessional. Btw Dahmer himself adamantly stated that he didn't kill for reasons of hate. He killed to get sexual gratification at all costs.

I think the critique is valid --- worthwhile in illuminating the `credentials' of a so-called psychologist and simultaneously explaining some of the major risk or precipitating factors of Dahmer's offending. This was done succinctly in a balanced and professional manner. I think you reached in few words a deep core of the nature of things critical to Dahmer, but known by Grande, which Grande overlooked. I believe that popular psychology (`pop psychology'?) can actually be dangerous as it misinforms the public. Thus, I support you in presenting this video to bring *clarity* .

I agree with everything you've said except for the part (8:52) where you've said he killed his victims because he hated his homosexuality. There are multiple reasons why this is most likely not true. One, not all of his victims were gay, atleast 7 to 8 of his victims were straight men who only went to Dahmer's place for money. Second of all, JD himself has said he didn't care about his victim's sexual preference...his only intention was to find someone that fit his type. Most of his victims were gay because they were easier to lure in. The only doctor that testified in his trial saying that he killed gay men to somehow kill a part of himself was Doctor Palermo, and it's fair to say he isn't so reliable as there were a lot of inaccuracies and misinformation in his testimony. Dahmer himself wrote a letter to his lawyer, stating how displeased he was with that court appointed psychiatrist because he got some of the most well-known facts wrong.

It appears that he got all his education, including his Ph.D which was from some online Christian college. Apparently he is licensed but not for diagnosing personality disorders and dark triad and other topics he discusses. I’ve noticed that in the past few months he’s playing attorney and mind reader. I mean he comes up with whole scenarios where not much about the crime in question. I love to watch his channel and mock him. Everyone's past shapes there future but we choose whether it's good or bad. He had choices any serial killer who told a Dr the complete truth about the thoughts he was having would have had him committed or maybe not this is the US so it's a crap shoot. But had he put the same energy into not acting on his urges that he did in acting on them there wouldn't have been any or as many murders. As a fan of Dr Grande, I wanted to say a few things. First, I enjoy your show. Anyone with any sort of education knows exactly what kind of doctor he is. I’ve never been confused. If I want clinical expertise, I’ll watch your show. If I just want to be entertained, I’ll watch his show. Of course he’s wrong sometimes. You are wrong sometimes by virtue of being human. Sometimes his “comedy” is so bad it’s kind of good. Sometimes it’s tasteless and terrible. Making of limericks about triple murders or sexual assaults does not do Dr grande any favors. I saw Anna’s video a year ago and had mixed feelings. She made good points. It’s hard to shake the notion that she also went after him for attention. I can think of 100s of KZfaqrs who are terrible people and far more deserving of criticism but she, and you seem go after a big name to help your careers. You should do things to help you be successful, Mr Grande should be able to take some criticism. I look forward to seeing more of your stuff in the future.

Grande's videos are more satire. He's spoken before about comedy, humour and it's importance to his own health and wellbeing. The point of his videos are taking a very shallow but satirical look at "cases", hence "what could be happening in a situation like this". I'm surprised no one here can see that.

Based on the last idea I posed that seemed to vanish for no obvious reason I’m aware of . Imagine how a disabled person would feel about never having an idea that’s worthy of discussing anywhere online so unless there’s a good reason not to clean out my playlists and start deciding useful apps from waste of time. I thought i had a comment with a different with a unique offbeat angle but it was to wrong somehow to stay up, I don’t think this platform is for me anymore thank you

In a nutshell, Jeffrey Dahmer was born that way. You don’t start killing people and cutting them up because your parents got divorced. Some of his childhood difficulties certainly didn’t help matters but millions of kids have similar backgrounds and don’t keep a severed head in the freezer.

Wow, I did not know that Todd Grande wasn't qualified for what he speaks about, the guy definitely gives the impression that psychoanalysis is his field, naughty. I believe he is in a wheelchair so I have a lot of empathy for the guy, but he really should be honest about his skills.

Dr Grande hardly does any analysis whatsoever. He mostly give us a short version of the facts. Like other true crime channels. I subscribed to his channel for the analysis but hardly ever got one. That is why he can spew out that many videos; an easy google search will give you a short fact based background to the story

Grande also gets things profoundly wrong For example What he has to say in the first few minutes of the David Ike video is so historically wrong it becomes almost easier to accept David’s version of truth and reality than it does Grande’s and that’s saying something!!!!

It sounds like Dr. Grande is an armchair professional. To be honest, I wouldn’t take much stock in a general psychiatrist who diagnoses depression in the suburbs either. If you need brain surgery you go to a neurosurgeon not a GP.
@bluemeister7
@bluemeister7 Жыл бұрын
Not sure that we should be equating brain surgery and mental illnesses, in most cases these are very different areas of study and practice. And I'd still rather defer to a "psychiatrist in the suburbs" than someone who hasn't spent years studying and practicing in the field. In my experience, these professionals have helped many live better lives every day, I don't see any reason to belittle them.

The Dr(?) Grandie post You talk about in this post isn’t the only post Dr Grandie has made about Jeffrey Dharma. He did one in 2019 posted on 16th June. It’s entitled-: Was Jeffrey Dharma Borderline, Psychopathic, & Psychotic at the same time? He kind of repeated some of the things he said in that post in the one You’ve discussed here… Why he had to make another post on the subject, when there wasn’t much more he could Really discuss or add to leaves one scratching one’s head ( Unless he just wanted to jump on the bandwagon) …….. ⚛️☮️🌏

I thought the Dr in question was serious about psychiatry at first in terms of being a compassionate dr who possibly could possibly be suffering himself from some unnoticeable health issue so I thought wow a Dr who understands disabled people. But when the two parter special on Dammer came down my feed I unsubscribed in shear disgust over his original premise

Dr. Grande is wrong about everything .. and everyone! I unsubscribed from him about 2 years ago. He’s always claimed to be a Mental Health Counselor and Educator with a PhD. I am totally unconvinced, however, that he even has these qualifications and credentials. Honestly, the man can’t seem to get through a video without using his favourite word narcissist/narcissism. (Some counselor!) If he really were one, he'd be helping people with their problems like REAL counselors do! All HE does is gives an all-you-can-eat character assassination about whoever is on his hit list for the day. This, in turn, is complimented with his sarcastic & totally unfunny remarks, his victim blaming techniques and the (totally wrong!) judgements he passes on people. Honestly, I think he's probably going through a midlife crisis. He wouldn’t be too thrilled if someone gave him a taste of his own medicine, but in all fairness, I think that’s just what he needs!
