Is ENDLESS OCEAN LUMINOUS as bad as the critics say?

I loved the original Endless Ocean as a kid. Being able to explore different submarine envirments like reefs, abyssal trenches (My favorite), Ancient ruins, marine caves, and even sunken ships was awesome. The thrill of scouring the seafloor to discover every landmark and named location, as well as interesting fish and creatures always kept me coming back. I have no idea how well EO2 and 3 capture this vibe, though. Also, i somewhat prefer the mechnic of the original where you had to pet and interact with the fish in order to register it. You had to be persistent sometimes, and it could take a few minutes before you got the name of the fish. It was legit like filling out the pokedex. I don't really like the instant registration as soon as you look at the fish, though that is probably just nostalgi goggles.

I think that's a totally fair point! Yeah, this one definitely is incentivizing you to register a lot of fish quickly versus really getting to interact with them. I think I agree with you.

This feels like an educational type of game for young audiences.

Except it not realistic. Alot of species are either extinct or do not exist at all. Oxygen never runs out. You can dive deeper than humanly possible. And swim faster than an Olympic swim team. But it is educational in a sense. I think this is an amazing and gorgeous game. But reviewers were rating the game for what it doesn't do, instead of appreciating what the devs intended it to do.
