Rydia will always be my FF waifu. FF4 in any other series could be a contender for their best game. But when you have FF5-10 which are all considered amazing, and 6, 7, 9 and 10 being regarded as some of the greatest games ever made, yeah FF4 is just gonna be "that game that's good but is more of a foundation for the future titles"

Just caught on on this amazing youtube channel. As a huge ff fan, I stumble across ff channels in youtube. However, this channel is by far the most casual (don't take it negatively) and most interesting for me to watch. It is just like listening to a good story told by a good friend. Regarding the ff games, I must admit that I haven't played through all of it but have played some (I,II,III, IV, IV AY, VII CC, X) of them and it is quite interesting for me to watch/hear other people's opinion about these game. Man, even now I still play final fantasy daily due to ffbe(final fantasy brave exvius) and that game is literally taking away all good points of every ff game placed inside a mobile game. Anyway, back to the videos, I hope to see more great content to your channel as I see it is currently heavy on ff content (i dont dislike it btw). The idea of "worth playing" is very creative especially old games get overshadowed by new ones. Keep up the good work man!

Final Fantasy IV was the first and so far only Final Fantasy game I ever played. I never beat it, I got stuck on the boss with the dolls and sold it a long time ago along with the PSP I played it on.

I really enjoyed it when I played it on the GBA port. I am not a fan of DS graphical remakes. The steam version really should have an option for the original sprites.

FFIV was my first venture into Final Fantasy…. back when it was Final Fantasy II on the SNES. I got it in 1992 and have had every every version since. Torn on the PSP version and the DS version as both are stellar remakes and quite different, even though they are the same title. That said, another great review. It really took me back. Thanks for taking the time to make these. So enjoyable and informative. For a future suggestion, if you haven’t already, consider Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. Both games were amazing and I believe they hold up well. I would love to hear your opinions, or see a video review on them better yet. Very well done. Professional quality.

Final Fantasy 1 is the only game in the series where I absolutely needed to use a guide. There's a point in the game where your next destination is a hidden village in the forest, the NPC only says it once, and I fast forwarded past the dialogue. Literally sailed my ship around the world map twice and could not figure out where to go.

The mobile version was my first FF in 2012. Looking to replay at some point, just realized it is on steam yesterday!

Final fantasy 3 3d remake on the DS was my first every final fantasy game. I really enjoyed it. You convinced me to buy this one since i just got a steam deck.

The Dark Elf sequence is definitely the nadir of this game haha I actually stumbled upon that certain someone before I went to the cave, so I never knew what would happen if you didn't

The augment system is what keeps me coming back to this version. The only critique I have is when you first meet Rydia after the tragedy she expresses hatred , but in the fight she has a smile on her face???

FFIV is my favorite game of all time! I'd say more than worth it! It was my second FF game, being born in 85, and having a dad who did a lot of gaming then I had already beaten FF1 at age 6 or 7, but things like Dragon Warrior were still too difficult at that age. Kain is my favorite favorite FF character in the whole series and Rydia is top 3. My character and job on FFXIV resembles Edge though. Great review, just subbed! I hope folks that haven't played it give it a go, it's arguably Uematsu's finest score. If I had to combat the minor "negative" or fault with the game, when you mentioned basically the loss of direction after cut scenes or story arcs. I don't think it's the games fault but that was the nature of RPG and some adventure games for the NES and still the SNES. Back then you're supposed to talk to everyone, you're supposed to check the walls and inanimate objects for secrets, no stone unturned, then the "secrets" are a lot less vague. Something like Zelda back then doesn't tell you anything what so ever lol

Watching in 2022, this was my first FF on the SNES, so it holds a special place in my heart. Enjoy your content, but maybe “is Final Fantasy 4 still worth playing” might be a better title. Unless you plan to re-review these every 3-5 years in which case, you do you. I’ll watch.

I played Final Fantasy III and this looks basically just like that but actually good. If you don't know Final Fantasy III has these graphics, no voice acting, still a simple plot that moves quickly but the characters and story aren't good like this one, has the same problems with not knowing where to go (but it's worse), and still a lot of random encounters. I think I'll enjoy playing this because I still enjoyed Final Fantasy III despite its flaws and why not have a better story?

I'm exactly the opposite! FF4 was the first FF I ever beat, back in middle school on emulator. It's always had a place in my heart since then, with the great characters and epic feeling that IMHO has only been surpassed by FF6 and 7.

You should do a "Should you play Final Fantasy 11" video. The subreddit is invaluable for setting the game up with modern machines, and I highly encourage hooking up an Xbox controller for playing it. The story is worth going through and you can solo all of the expansions in just a few weeks.

with FF3 on the DS was the first proper game I played like ever and having played it probably like 10 times and still loving it, this game being pretty similar to it, I absolutely love this game too. Though I probably prefer FF3 a tad bit more, most likely due to nostalgia though 😅

It's pretty interesting how different the NDS/Steam version is from the other versions with regards to atmosphere. The Chibi looks makes the game look more flimsy as opposed to the darker tone in the other versions of the game. The PSP version is probably the best modern representation of the original vision (essentially redrawing the original pixel art assets) whereas the NDS/Steam version is a complete reimagination for a new generation. Unfortunately, the PSP version only available on PSP/PSVita which is a shame as both versions have their own loyal fanbase. Fun fact: When I tried to play the original SNES version, it was almost unintelligable as the translation seems like someone used google translate to produce the english version. Later versions of the game improved it's translation with every release so each version is kind of a historical artifact 😂

The short version, yes, it’s always worth playing

In defense of the Anna plot point. Yes it went by a bit faster than some would like but it hangs in the air and leads to Edward becoming an emotionally stronger person over time. Edward literally had to put his feelings to the side so someone else who needed his aid didn't lose their "Anna" to. Rydia had the ring delivered to her village and the end result was equally as bad as Edward's situation. So her of all people had every right to tell Edward to pull himself together for the time being and grieve later. Further it leads to probably one of the most iconic scenes in final fantasy (for me at least) when the rage for Anna's death comes to the forefront against the story's antagonist. It seems so quick and minor but it really does linger for a decenct chunk of the story's plot.

I played this on the ds actually im still playing it. I got this game years ago and just defeated barbaricia. I was like in kindergarten playing this and i did not know what black and white magic was so i did not even use it. I just kept using attack still i got to scarmiglione. It took years to defeat this guy then after getting mad i tried the magic system and felt like a complete fool.

The best 23 dollars spent on the PS Vita store. Thanks to my best mate that gifted me a 50 dollar playstation card. Time for a FF4 Complete edition adventure on my Vita

I'm quite surprised you never got to be curious about Kain Highwind's story and his character growth. Personally, my favorite among the cast of characters. Uhm... Best dragoon in all ff franchise?? I think you never got to experience the end game content gba/psp had to offer because YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO HAHAHA. Uhm....hello?? Ending cutscenes after the last boss battle? Kain lunar ruins trial followed up by redemption arc in FFIV the after years? You need to feel the full Final Fantasy 4 experience through the complete collection in the PSP version. (If I have to point out why I hate the game, it's cuz you never will be able to use dark knight cecil ever again after the Mt. Ordeals and the total elimination of the idea of darkness inside Cecil. They tried to make Cecil the perfect protagonist and they kinda(?) did because he suited the hero role the most among the characters. Still, this further supports my point that Kain Highwind (MOST RELATABLE) deserves the limelight of FFIV.)

You went to the Lodestone Cavern before going to Troia? Why on earth would you go to a cave you weren't directed to go to? I mean when you get Cid's airship and after you meet up with Kain Cecil literally says to Cid "Let's go to Troia." I'm sorry but your complaint about the scripted defeat at the hands of the Dark Elf makes no sense because the game clearly tells you where to go next. You're trying to say it didn't. You must have been asleep during the cutscenes...

I will say.... I agree. Even without the issue you ran into with the Lodestone Cavern (I never had that problem because I'm an obsessive explorer) it's still by far the worst dungeon in the game, and I dread it every time I go to replay the game.

I think the PSP version is actually the best version of this game ... the '3D' version looks weird and the music seems 'muted'

The SNES version is still the best imo. The 16-bit pixel graphics look so much better than those of the version you played. I don't know why people like the SD chibi models so much...they're so cringeworthy.

I loved this one for years depsite never finishing it. Then I finally beat it and found out all the character deaths are undone, maming them cheap, pointless, manipulative crap. Even one of the most iconic death scenes in the whole franchise is just another fakeout. Also, the remake is utter trash with shit balancing and a static top down camera in the overworld and a boring fixed camera in battles, which makes it meaningless that it's 3D at all.

FFIV is a bit bad... I prefer action or strategy jrpgs
