Chester essentially got a promotion to associate head coach at WV that he was not going to get at IL. He was just an assistant coach at IL. We got Antigua back who is a much better recruiter than Chester. Brad knows that in the current landscape of college basketball, you are losing half your roster or more every year to kids who want a knew opportunity every year and possibly more money than what they can get at your school, so he knows he needs experienced guys that can come right in and produce, especially offensively, and Chester has mostly recruited projects that he intends to have develop at IL over time and he wants to bring in defensive minded players, and I think he disagrees with Brad's wanting mainly offensive players, and I kind of agree with Chester on that, but IDK, it is was it is.

This is a reach. Several guys that left have transferred again. So it's not Underwood. We had 3 guys run out of eligibility 1 guy go pro and a Frazier took 2. Yes that's a lot but we had an old team last year. Except Humrichous, all these guys have more than 1 year of eligibility. And, the guys they have brought in are better than the guys they lost. If they get a scorer and a big we will be fine. Every team is going through this.

To the portal, yes. None of the guys they brought in are stars to replace the ones who graduated.

meh. Maybe not right now, but if you can't hold onto Freshman (or even some HS recruits at this point) you never develop any into stars either. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Amani looks pretty nice in a year or two

Calling WVU lower level shows me that you don’t really know anything about them. Chester is from the east coast, knows the recruiting grounds, got a small raise and higher position. Brad underwood is a great coach and Illinois is going to do great in the big 10

It is a double edged sword, I think it's really hard to be consistent with free agents. Seems pretty clear you have to use the portal, but I don't know what the right balance is

Hansbury (however you spell his name) is a bad example, because it involves unintended consequences, which calls for a young man who, when he did get healthy, wanted to play. We were at the crossroads in a year when he was unavailable when Shannon was out, became available the team was rolling and successful. Could he have been worked into the lineup more? Press pass, but I 😢doubt it. He had been out too long, had not improved on the weaker points of his needed skills. Is he a good kid? In all likelihood! But he is also a norma l human being who becomes a little spoiled by success and accolades. You have to keep improving, step up to the level of competition in all aspects to EARN the time on the court. It is not a right; you must earn it! If you don’t get it, talk to the coach or an assistant coach. Ask: what do I need to do? DO IT! If you still don’t fit, then transfer! BUT, don’t whine. You just were not good enough, quick enough to merit more playing time. Best wishes elsewhere. Goodie is not the one can I understand. He is a great young man who may well get less time on the court in Indiana. He could have been a leader on the next year’s team. I do wish him the best! He is a great young man, we were lucky to have and maybe mom & dad & other friends and family will get to see him play. I hope so. I just do not think his playing time is guaranteed.

We don't know what's going on. Only the coaches in the culture staff knows what's going on. We're just speculating. I think Brad Underwood is adjusting to the new era of basketball

You 2 need to realize nil has changed the college basketball game forever. The result is 1000s players moving every year 4 we're Illinois players. This is the new norm.

5 or more outgoing and incoming transfers and keeping 2 recruits from the last 4 recruiting classes is not the new norm when you’ve had a coach there for multiple seasons. Illinois is one of a few teams that is doing this year in and year out.

Let's see how this works out for Purdue after their free player of the year is gone. He could have earned 1.5 mil NIL.. be he got none, which left it all for the rest of em. Purdue will lose guys if they don't pay up.

Purdue should still be good, but you're right. There will be a drop-off. I like Smith, but he just isn't the same game changer/wrecker that Edey was.

Can't say I see any area where Illinois is "looking better than last year." Hawkins, Domask, and Shannon are all gone, and they brought in no one that is better than any of those 3. I understand being a fan and I'm happy you are optimistic for your team, but let's not act like Brad went out and got a bunch of All Americans.
