Is hip arthritis reversible if you do exercise?
This is the question that anyone dealing with hip arthritis asks... and it's the question that many healthcare professionals think about too.
But not many people have figured out a straightforward process to help heal hip arthritis with exercise.
Many people get some form of success using exercise to treat hip osteoarthritis, but it is not consistent.
What tends to happen is most people get pain relief from some exercises, but then end up feeling worse with other exercises.
In this video, Dr. David answers the question, "Is it possible for exercise to reverse painful hip arthritis?"

Please, listen to this man. i found his channel, it made sense. Gave it a few months of training hamstrings and NO quads at all. I am not pain free, but I don't limp and I am training for a marathon. Ask a PT to strengthen your hamstrings and buttocks.

When I went to the orthopedist in Germany 10 months ago because of severe inflammation in my left hip - I couldn't walk a step - the doctor said, after looking at my x-ray for 15 seconds: Broken. When I asked what was wrong, she said succinctly: hip joint. When I asked what I should do now, she said hip-change. One-word sentences that made me leave the practice in shock. This woman had just spoken to me for 3 minutes altogether and threw this diagnosis at me. It took a few months, a visit to an Indian spiritual healer who told me I didn't need surgery, until I came across this video. Since I've been training isolated my glutes and doing certain stretching exercises, I've been almost pain-free. I teach yoga and can show almost all of the exercises i teach to my students. This morning it feels like I have no problems at all - this after just about 2 months of practice. Thank you very much, Doctor David! I should actually complete the program just out of gratitude - although it's going great now. I would like to encourage everyone to follow the path described in the video - most of the orthopedist are just money greed and do not care at all for your health!

You are the truth!💯💯💯 I found your channel about a month ago and it’s literally changing my life! I’ve been diagnosed with hip arthritis also have vertebraebones spur from arthritis in my spine/back and arthritis in my spine/neck. I download several of your videos here on KZfaq, I do the exercises every day targeting my glutes. The constant pain I’ve have in my left thigh and groin has lessened over the past week. My spine specialist doctor and pain management doctor constantly suggest hip replacement surgery and pain med which I refuse to take because I don’t like feeling drowsy most of the day or feeling brain fog. I will be 60 years old on August 8th. In all my life, I’ve never drank alcohol not even win. I’ve never smoked any cigarettes of any kind and never takin any narcotics drugs of any kind. I am Professional Vocalist/Dancer of 40 years. Arthritis is genetic in my family. my mom and two of my sisters has arthritis. I perform high energy shows on cruise ships haven’t worked since November of last year. I recovered from hysterectomy surgery in April. I am about to start work again on the cruise ship. and a couple weeks. Your physical therapy treatment videos has been helping me tremendously. I started dealing with other writers around eight years ago. The arthritis has progressed from high energy dance performances over the years as I’m getting older. Doing the physical therapy exercises targeting the arthritis pain is a lifetime commitment I am on board with.😊👍🏽😍 I’m so grateful I found your KZfaq channel. Thank you for sharing your great work of healing. ❤️‍🩹🙏🏽

Most excellent. I'm soon to be 70, all kinds of hip pain the past several years, even walking with a slight limp for a bit. Tight & weak hip flexors along with old man weak everything else. Got rid of it by getting back into strength training. I can verify that getting your glutes strong, along with hamstrings & quads is definitely the key. Strength training is the fountain of youth, even if you're not consistent all the time. I trained very solid since last February, but dropped the ball a bit in mid March this year. Still no hip pain now, lol..... lil' bit goes a long way indeed. I definitely will be hitting it hard again soon. No future in weakness, that's for sure.

It makes sense. I have little pain, but loss of ROM is main concern for me. This time last year I played soccer at 70%, but I played. And I wanted to find out what's wrong with my ROM, with my hips, with my muscles around hips. So I took x-ray where I'm been diagnosed wit hip OA. And every single doctor (I've seen 5-6 ) said it is for surgery... And here's the funny thing - that's the point where things for me were starting to get worse, when I'm being TOLD I have hip OA. I've been told to stop playing soccer because that's bad for me, bad for my hips. So, what does brain decides to do in this situation - tight those hip muscles even more, because there is a "problem" with hip joint... Now, I've been going several months to PT, and we are mostly working on glutes and hamstrings and it is a little better, but the main goal we are focusing, through correct way of breathing while doing exercises, is to tell the brain that it is not that big of a deal down there, to loosen up those muscles. And I know that is a master level to accomplish, but I will never give up and avoid suggested surgery as much as possible... I like my parts :)

Hi. I’m 72 year old woman bearing 42 kilos and having a height of 5 ft. I still train regularly, doing boxing, strength training, ( no more than 4 kilos) push ups, sit ups, burbees, jumping jacks (on a rebounder) and other cardio exercises. I also follow the knee’s over toes guy, and until recently I felt full of strength and enjoyed very good health. Also very flexible. However lately I was getting this hip pain and diagnosed with tronchateric bursitis. I did therapy and went back to training. Again I got this hip pain and it has now moved to my groin in both legs that with every step I make I get pain. Lately I was aiming to do the deep squats ( I could do normal squats without any problems), and am thinking this could have done some damage? I’m doing the glutes exercises as you so well explained but haven’t seen any progress. I will not be seen by doctors as, as you explained they go to the same conclusion of age related arthritis. Can you please help? Many thanks and keep up your good work.

Thanks for your honesty about the Old ways to the New ways that doctors treat arthritis overall. I've been doing the butt exercises: while siting squeezing the buttocks, as well as standing up. Also do the stairs holding while going up & down & walking. How do I not increase the front thigh area while strengthening the glutes? I'm in PT & should I make it clear to work glutes only? Thanks.

Had right hip problems due to how I walked or the walking shoes I used. I stopped and did some exercises as shown here. The pains subsided and sadly started I started to walk again with the same shoes etc. This aggravated the problem so I have to start over. This time the aggravated problem put the quads in my legs into severe spasms and excruciating pain. 😢.When the spasms ease I will pay closer attention to your hip arth.recovery program.

I have been watching your videos and doing the recommended exercises that you have taught, and I feel amazing. I am at the early stage of hip arthritis but am still being told that I need surgery due to innumerable amounts of loose bodies. I really don't want to believe that I am doomed for surgery due to the loose bodies. I am feeling better now but I do still experience a locking every so often on longer walks - is this from a loose body getting "stuck" somewhere?? - But I am fearful that surgery could actually introduce new problems that I do not have and that would defeat the purpose of actually having surgery done to fix the problem. Your thoughts?

I’ve been wondering if the pain I’m experiencing is a muscle issue. My rom is so-so, but my (bilateral) groin area is so painful that I have a hard time taking steps. This started intermittently in, prob’ly, late January, but it’s becoming the “norm.” And, I do NOT want this to be my norm. Will you share an exercise/stretching regimen or two that I may start with? I’m >50# overweight, but I’m more than willing to work on losing said pounds . . . I just don’t know where to begin. Based on what I understood from your video, I should be strength training-that is, walking, in and of itself, is not enough. But, again, no idea where to start. Thank you for your insight, and willingness to share it with us 💕👏🕊️

Hi Elppedro, Thanks for the kind words. We are so sorry to hear that you suffering from hip arthritis. We know how uncomfortable it is to deal with and we hope you feel better soon. Some of us in the office suffer from "nobuttatall" too.🤣 If we can do it you can too but from personal experience, it took some time to get those glutes to fire off so be patient with yourself if you don't happen to get it right at first. We have a hip arthritis help playlist that has exercises that you might find helpful. You can access it here: “Hip Arthritis Help” kzfaq.info/sun/PLJVIPiFvv1mbICbP6qlXUZwMyAJlKD1dt Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not. We wish you all the best in your road to recovery. We'd love to hear how you are doing as you progress.🙌 Please take care!

I have osteoarthritis & have had both my knees replaced. After having that done then the arthritis & pain moved elsewhere. It felt like it was my hips, but it was actually in my lower back. I've had steroid shots done on my lower back several times. However, last month my pain management doctor burned all the nerves in my lower back. I still have some pain, but it's not as severe. Plus I'm more stable when I'm walking. I was told it will take 3 or 4 months before the nerves start to grow back. When they do, I will definitely have them burned again. You might check into having that done. It has certainly helped me. Have a great day!!!!

I have been doing Judo for over thirty years. I had a hip injury in 2008, and hip pain has been increasing since then. The pain has now hampered my ability to do Judo. I never went to PT, but I did go to a surgeon. When I explained the pain that I felt in the front and outside of my femoral head, he flat out said, "That's not your hip." He then said that I was a candidate for hip replacement for each hip. I'm going to find some PT. This surgeon is doing double talk.
