How dangerous is it to use a laser engraver? What steps do you need to take to make sure you, and people around you are safe while operating this laser? Lets cover some of these topics. Do:
1. Follow the guidelines provided in the manual.
2. Always wear the required personal protective equipment.
3. Set up an enclosure if your laser machine is open.
4. Use a honeycomb to protect your work surface.
5. Operate the machine in a well-ventilated area, particularly if it's an open setup.
Don't:
1. Never leave the machine unattended during operation.
2. Avoid looking directly into the laser beam.
3. Do not use materials that are highly flammable, explosive, or could produce toxic byproducts.
4. Avoid extreme settings.
5. When working with materials like acrylics that produce unpleasant odors, refrain from opening the cover too quickly, especially if you lack a smoke purifier.
Hazards

Eye damage & skin burns

Thanks for putting this out there! I'm sick of people freaking out over lasers because they think everyone is an idiot. If that's the case, no one should have power tools. That said -- I do wish the companies putting out open frame lasers would be a little more obvious about the safety precautions we should follow.

Yeah, it really needed to be said. What would go a long way is that other manufacturers emphasize safety before each live stream and video. I am literally the only laser content creator that mentions safety in every video. Nobody else does it! You are 100% correct about power tools, that is why I brought up welding and plasma cutters. Why are these people that suggest not using a laser, not going after welders and plasma torches? Anyone can pick these up at a local hardware store? I would like to see all laser manufacturers offer a enclosure with their open lasers.

I really miss welding, I used to really enjoy it, and I still would enjoy welding if I was able to....

John, thanks for the video, This subject is overlooked and as you said - you only have one set of eyes. Next you need a video on how to burn/ mark dog treats.

Great video. I got an email about the S1. My D1 is not functioning right and driving me crazy. I have to go through troubleshooting but think a P2 would be better for me because of enclosure or F1 for some of the metal stuff I want to do.

Many thanks for watching! Yeah, currently testing the S1, it is very cool, and it behaves rather differently than your typical laser. Sorry to hear about your D1, hopefully you can get it sorted out soon. The P2 looks amazing, I never used one. I really like the portability of the F1, it is very versatile and fun to use! I think the biggest issues with people and lasers is in my opinion similar to people that don't really do the research in 3D printing and then blame the tool or the company. And there's a lot of people out there with no common sense and get hurt..... it think that's the biggest issue, because it's made to look so much easier and safer than it is if that makes sense? Look at the laser pens people get kids back in the day and sometimes still till this day.... I was always careful as a kid but you'd have those kids that would point the laser at people... But yes, if you follow all the guidelines and such you're pretty safe but still never leave a constant laser unattended. It's a bit different if you have to hold a button down to turn it on and keep it on but if it's capable like these DIY and hobby like laser ls are to stay on, then stand by or near the laser with protection till it's finished.
