I like being a Bond fan. Period.

You're being far too generous, David. My experience is that people who consider Bond (or any other fandom) "weird" give themselves a pass when it comes to THEIR hobbies/passions, etc.

I wore my new 007 shirt with the gun barrel for the first time in public and I've never seen so many eyes analyzing my chest before. Then an old gentlemen asked me if I was a fan and he said he was a fan too. I think that's cool, I like seeing people who enjoy Bond. I love The Beatles and James Bond, two of my favorite icons of historical pop culture. Speaking of which, does anyone know anything about the film where Bond goes to see The Beatles playing live? It was a deleted scene I think. Wish they would've kept it!

I once worked as Head Writer for a super hipster nudie magazine out of Brooklyn, and the towering Vogue model who was Creative Director once told me: "The only difference between a cool person and a weird person is that the weird person is actually passionate about something." She made sweaters out of rabbit fur and artificially aged clothing for TV show and movie wardrobes, so she was weird in the coolest possible ways lol

I just discovered a series of 007 comic books. They have them on eBay, and I found a section in a local comic book store in the Rittenhouse section of Philly. Hobbies or even being a fanatic literally help to keep me sane in this crazy word. Long live 007.

We had a movie night with a younger friend who was a Harry Potter fan...I told her that James Bond was my Harry Potter.....she asked me to pick a couple of my favorite Bond films and we could do a marathon. I picked Goldfinger and Casino Royale. She loved them and has already binged through Sean Connery.....I think we have another one.

Given how trash most movies and TV entertainment has been the last 20 years, being a Bond fan just means you enjoy traditional action/spy movies. The fact they have been consistently good since the 1960s (finer points aside) you tell me another series of 25 + movies that are good and have had continued success...

Yea my coworkers thought I was weird when I showed up to work with the replica DB5 ejector seat gear shift. Coincidently I thought having those Funko dolls on their desk was weird too. But weird is not a word I like using due to the negative connotation behind it. It’s passion and I don’t see anything wrong with it provided it doesn’t affect priorities. Also it’s impossible to not put on a Suit without having the James Bond theme play in my head, specifically OHMSS intro Bond theme.

I’ve been a Bond fan since I was 12. I’m now 21 and am in the Navy (in James Bond fashion) and have James Bond tattoos almost every shirt I wear is from SIS Training Gear. They don’t scream Bond but if you know.. you know. For a while I’ll tell people what they mean and they do think they are kind of… weird. I think people my age just don’t GET Bond. Just another example about how it may be weird to be a Bond fan in 2024.

I told them that I am not doing that and also asked them what is the difference between me loving James Bond movies and they loving their favorite football team? I got no answers from them, lol. Anyways.....I am a James Bond fan forever! I celebrated my 56 birthday party "Casino Royale " style back in 2021. David Zaritsky, perhaps it is weird how the things of childhood can stay with us all our lives. Most things we let go off as they become age inappropriate, but those things that dig deep into our being linger. I've been a Bond fan for 54 of my 66 years. Some people use fandom to plug a hole in their lives, other doesn't have a hole to plug. In recent years my commitment has been sorely tested, I can assure you.

Weird? Nah, Bond is forever. Sean Connery has always been my Bond, I'm very much about old school, as I get older it's even more and more true with each year passing. My fandom has spanned my entire lifetime, moreso now than ever.

I’m 28 years old and i introduced my friend to the Bond movies this year. He wants to watch all the Craig movies but I’m imploring him to check out Goldfinger, Goldeneye, and TSWLM. Random, but I really hope the next Bond movie is a period piece set in the early 1960s. If done right, the vibe would be awesome and I don’t think it can be replicated in the today’s world

I love james bond remember me and my dad watching these movies , and as I grew up I watched all the others as well. Will always be a Bond fan and if they continue ruin the new films I will still love the old ones. I remember putting on my first suit when I was like 19-20 for a job interview and I first thing I was thinking of was james bond lol 38 now and will never not love the james bond franchise.

David, I began to be a full-blown Bond fan in the year 2024 and allow me to categorically refute the concept of being weird to be part of the Bondian community or fraternity zone in 2024 - enormously immense kudos to Ian Fleming, Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore plus some of the Bond girls from the 60s era as well as John Barry who had made me to be one epic lover of this legendary and timelessly elegant spy or espionage-like classic! [yes as a lady of 38 years of age!]

Bond was born out of the need to fix a country that was broken. The UK needed a hero. Not an imagined flying man or mythical greek creature who's name we could not pronounce, but a man. One from a broken family, somebody of razor sharp intelligence, with not a single ounce of empathy. Times were hard, spirits were broken, This one figure gave back more than he would ever dream of...its not weird, he's an antidote to the world back then which struggled and he is relevant even more now. Weird is a superpower in itself, so to be called weird is a compliment. Celebrate being a fan, be more Bond its no longer a film franchise, its a way of life, its a multi billion dollar industry with Bond fans sitting in the highest seats in the largest corporations. Oh God yes. First off your collection rocks. My living room is full of old and new consoles, it has a CRT for the retro games. Games are my escape, but also they are the catalyst for my imagination and my channel. Many people find it super weird that I just do KZfaq, let alone have plushies and figures sprawled in my house. I used to think I was weird for loving the Bond movies so much. More than most around me. Then when I found this community a few years ago, it reignited that passion I used to have for Bond. I had kept it secret for many many years. I went from being a fan to a normie. So it is nice to feel normal in being such a fan again, and dressing with that style, and finding those screen props, and other Bond items. And listening to and watching others express their feelings about Bond without feeling that it must sound weird to have actual feelings about the subject. Knowing I am not the only one listening to Bond music in the car, LOL!!

spending however much you do on bond memorabilia probably does sound weird on the face of it, until you consider that most (if not all) hobbies and interests are pretty expensive if you’re really into them. how much money do people spend on games consoles, paintings, sports equipment, cameras, sneakers, art supplies, musical instruments, etc? and yet those things aren’t considered weird!

I have been a fan all my life but nowadays it’s mostly a nostalgia thing and enjoying the content creators. I am not a fan of Barbara and Michael and Eon. It’s a fun hobby and I also like the watches, clothing and history. Whatever that makes me, is what I am.

I am 37 years old and still a Bond fan and have been I was a kid starting with Goldeneye in 1995 during the Brosnan era.

I don’t consider myself a Bond super fan as such. I own the movies and books and that’s it. No memorabilia or apparel. I am however a fan of how watching or reading Bond fills me with nostalgia. I drift back to watching the films as a child with my family. Simpler times when you just had fun and less analysis of every word said or action taken and pc meant a computer. I’m thankful for Bond.

This is just another reason why the Bond films need to change their approach. And why Barbara Broccoli says Bond 26 will be a "reinvention". Craig made fans out of new generations because the series went darker and explored his psyche. Craig's Bond also at least brushed with current geopolitics and showed how grey and brutal the world of espionage is. I expect future Bonds to explore the dark world of espionage even more. I think people call Bond fans weird if they harp on about the old Bond films from the 70s and 80s and 90s. Pure nostalgia. They're not really relevant today.

Not weird at all! Bond is like Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and The Lord of the Rings. It's for everyone. Everyone is allowed to love Bond, be it the films, the books, the props, and the music. The only problem in 2024 is the new fans coming in and they can not afford any of the merch anymore. The 2003 remastered CDs are hard to find at used CD stores and are no longer $5 used on eBay and Mercari anymore. They're going up $30+ and that's not fun (the price hike happened during "No Time to Die" and the expanded and complete score releases of "Tomorrow Never Dies", "The World is Not Enough", "Die Another Day", "Live and Let Die" and "Octopussy" from La-La Land Records). The same for the Ian Fleming novels from Penguin with the nice artwork by Roseanne Serra and Richie Fahey. They are going up in value and are harder to find at used bookstores. The newbies' best bet is the Signet novels, which are easy to find.

It was my Birthday on the 27th, so here is the next chapter of my story. [Scene 10] The musky smelling Turkish trade hall looked as lavish as an ancient temple, with decorative murals, carvings, and designs on the walls dating back through the centuries. "Can I take your name sir?", enquires a clerk. "Yes the name's Bond...", he thinks quickly, and remembers his murdered friend. "Erm. James! James Bond." "Very good sir, please find a seat. Bidding will being at 12 noon." Bond feels like a small tadpole inside a huge writhing morass of eels as he waits in the drenching heat of the trade hall, waiting for bidding to start. Eventually, a bell chimes, just as Heinz Munchen steps in, along with several body guards; who take his hat and coat. "Gentlemen, shall we start the biding at 100 thousand Deutsch Marks?". The sale of the gold takes place in lots; some selling for more than others; but each time Bond raises his hand, he looses to another bidder. Sweat pours from his brow. It is now the final bid of the day, and the time is almost 4pm. Bidding begins, and Bond lifts his hand like a puppet on a string; with the nipple clamp device beating out advice so rapidly, that Bond thinks he is having a heart attack. The last bid closes. He has failed. He feels dejected. Just then, bodyguards rush in and grab him under the arms, and drag him out to a waiting car. As Bond passes by Herr Munchen, Heinz turns to another man, and says "Abdullah, Aqtalh!" (kill him in Arabic). Bond hears this and struggles to break free, but he is trapped. Yasmin stands held in the arms of henchmen, as they bundle Bond into the car. His nipple clamp starts to beat as James slumbers in the back seat. "ABDULLAH. CODE NAME: DARLING JOE, EX-WRESTLER, VERY DANGEROUS." Way out in the sun-drenched desert, the car stops, and the four men emerge from their 1934 Audi. A balding man with a scar takes off his jacket and shirt to reveal a heavily muscled top half. The two other henchmen laugh like hyenas, as Abdullah slowly walks towards Bond - with a huge smile on his face. His teeth are completely rotten, so he wears shiny silver dentures. Bond back off into the desert and weighs up his options. To strike would be intimidating, but he decides to take a fast punch to the kidneys anyway. It just bounces off. Bond backs away again quickly, and thinks up some words in Arabic: "I know where the Gold is!". Abdullah stops. "Where is de Gold??". "I'll tell you if you tell me where your boss is going?". "Herr Munchen meets Japanese man in Chan Draghona next week. Now, where is de Gold???". Bond pulls out a scruffy piece of folded paper out of his jacket pocket. "Here is a map. I'll put the map under this rock." As the man looks toward the rock, Bond turns, and starts running back towards the car. Abdullah dives for the paper under the stone, and finds that it is simply a hotel room-service receipt. Angrily, he gives chase. Bond jumps from a sandy bank overhanging the road, pulling down of the the guards. He takes a hand gun from the henchman's holster, and points the gun at the other man. "Drop it! Back off!". He jumps inside the car, slams the car door, and turns the ignition key, just as Abdullah jumps onto the roof of the car, roaring. Bond jumps on the gas, throwing the car around. The car begins to career down hill, as Abdullah stomps around on top of it, breaking the glass in the doors, and trying to force his way inside. Bond stamps on the gas hard, and then stops suddenly. The henchman is thrown forwards, but grabs on to the wipers, where he leans over to punch through the window. Bond jams back on the gas again, and tries everything to shake him off. Dust flies everywhere. Nothing works. Eventually he runs off the road, and as the choking dust consumes them both, Abdullah falls off, coughing. [Video Game: Beat the bidders, or get beaten up by Abdullah. Get the 'Bond... James Bond' card]

Bond is a wonderful hobby. As you said, you can enjoy that world on many levels. Anything can devolve into an obsession but Bond gives you many outlets to enjoy that world on a budget. You can collect posters or watches or Aston Martins as you can afford and still be welcomed into the greater Bond community. My Bond time started when my dad took me to see Diamonds are Forever in the theater as a kid and now it continues with me in my mid 60s. A lifetime of enjoyment. I don’t think it’s weird to enjoy what you love.

Hi! I don't think it is weird to have a passion for a fictional franchise. Movies, books or music touch something in our hearts and minds, and we want to dive into this fascinating world as much as possible. Some people do, some don't. Some like Star Wars, some Harry Potter, some love a car brand, or whatever. I (43 years) would consider myself a bond fan since my childhood. But besides the movie DVDs my only Bond item is the Parker Jotter from Golden Eye that I bought in 96, not knowing it's the pen from the movie. Oh and I got some Aston Martin Polos from Hackett cause I love the cars. I am more a Lord of the Rings fanatic 😄 it's almost religious. Collecting statues, figures, jewellery, and I have my Anduril on my wall, rewatching the movies every year. And I'm also a Rock and Metal fan. Collecting band merch, play guitar, collecting guitar gear, amps, effects... I love going to concerts with jeans and leather vest, having a beer and singing along. Great video. Everyone different which is of course what makes the world go round. Many people don't have hobbies like you say, which I find a little weird but each to their own. Fleming's Bond had very little interests outside of work. I think if any of us were to meet Fleming's Bond in real life, we would probably think him weird.

I'm a normie/superfan. I get in the mood for Bond, watch the movies,look at my figures,buy a piece of clothing, but then the next year it switches off sometimes for a few years. It usually swings back when a new Bond movie comes out. And lasts about a year again. My friend said she didnt think i was weird for collecting a figure but thought it weird that some Bond fans dress like Bond and try to be like Bond. I think in the old days people hid their Bond fanaticism. But now thanks to Channels like Davids people are coming out of the closet more. Remember Pierce Brosnan said he was amazed how some friends came out of the Bond closet when he was chosen to play Bond.

My level of fandom: I own all the movies on Blu Ray, I own all the soundtracks on CD and in some cases I have La-La Land special editions of the soundtrack CDs. I own all of Flemings novels in recent trade paperbacks. However, I also own all the Signet editions I grew up with, of the Fleming novels. I would like to own all the Folio editions, and one day I may. I watch the movies, I also own a number of books relating to the Bond movies and books. I own no props, no memorablilia to speak of and I'm fine with that. So maybe I'm weird. Favorite Bond is Dalton, top five movies are From Russia With Love, For Your Eyes Only, License to Kill, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Casino Royale. Well, that's about it, I guess.

No. I am a 45 year old woman that grew up watching Bond movies as a kid because my dad was a fan. From Sean Connery Era all the way to thru the Craig Era. I would say the only ones who are not or have issues with the Bond movies are the Woke people.

I like Bond and enjoy many aspects of this content but I’m not a super fan . So, spending fortunes on Bond items or watches etc, might seem weird but only if taken in isolation. If you look at it as someone spending on their particular hobby, I see nothing unusual about it anymore than someone spending on audio, golf clubs, gaming etc.

I pride myself in surrounding myself with top-shelf strange/weird.

It’s definitely not weird to be a Bond fan I think 99% of people would even flinch if you said your were… and personally speaking I’ve never fit even around friends or at events where I should I always seem to do something different and I have a a freaky super natural ability to pick a film or album that everyone hates but on thing that as changed is…. … years ago someone could have been a multi millionaire and never got close to so people’s collections, how can people own there own arcade or go Disney land once every two weeks…. That said and I’ve thought this for the last few years long as your and adult and not hurting anybody else go for it.

Bond could do with some time om the small screen... would be more adaptable to the 21st century.

It's not different than what Marvel, Star Wars or Star Trek fans do with their franchises and James Bond has over 20 films. But those fans cross over into Comics and other genres a bit easier than Bond does. I don't really have many fellow Bond friends but I have many friends who are fans of those other Fandoms or something within Pop Culture. Some of them even like Sports. So I'd actually say the person who's only into sports is far odder for not having a deep connection or some form of nostalgia for something within Pop Culture.

I enjoy the aspects of adventure that Bond stories/movies take me on. The relationships he forms along the way with people I’d never meet. The rather cavalier encounters he has with the most beautiful and sexy women, whom to be honest, wouldn’t ever enter my orbit. The knack he has to be able to compartmentalise his own fear in order to think, process and function in the most dangerous situations to save the day. Of cause, who wouldn’t want to be capable of all that? Most people couldn’t. But that doesn’t mean you can’t try to project that. Like wearing Tom Ford suits and ordering your vodka martini “shaken not stirred “ at the hotel bar. Or if I am leaning on the bar at an island style tiki bar and a beautiful woman water skis into me and apologises for getting me all wet. I can say “Yes, but my martini is still dry”. It’s about wanting to be cool 😎 suave and sophisticated.
