LOL! When putting the video together we left out some - as I expect you noticed. This was done deliberately so that people will still have more to find out! Sarah :)

Hi Sarah and Andrew That was a lovely walk thank you. What a lovely place Penryn is with a very interesting history. I love the cottages with the alleyways that lead into shared areas. My aunt lived in one near to the Admiral Benbow in Penzance. It was a suntrap with some beautiful flowers and plants. Oh! and a line of pure white washing! Bygone days. My son and myself have our lunch with you every Friday and coincidentally, just at the point of you mentioning 'doughnuts' Andrew, we had just finished ours. Mmm! Looking forward to next weeks vid. 💕

I found this fascinating as I was born in Penryn at Myrtle Cottage at the bottom of Truro Hill, demolished quite a long time ago to improve the road layout/junction in The Praze. The Ope's served a very practical purpose, they prevented the Customs men from entering the yard en masse as the narrow passage forced them to enter in single file, where they were met by a number of the occupies armed with "sticks and stones" which did break their bones.

If anyone wants to do the walk, the book Sarah and Andrew used can be found in Penryn Museum.

Very nice video. Our family were good friends with the Dunstans of Penryn: Arthur, his wife, Iris ("IG" as she was known) and daughter Wendy who owned a toy store in town. Their house was in "The Praze" on the corner of Truro Lane (if I recall correctly). Arthur ("Dickie") Dunstan was mayor (1973/74) and also a blacksmith - his shop is on the Praze too I believe. Iris made wonderful pasties! I believe "Dunston Close" is named to commemorate his time as mayor.

Penryn looks a very charming place, lots of unusual features, don’t think I would like to frequent a pub who’s back garden was used for hanging people! Would rather have my spirits in a glass 🥃 Andrews game of spot the fake window (with no prizes) I failed miserably until he pointed it out! I noticed the blocked one first! there were so many quirky features Andrew was really enjoying himself, his enthusiasm is quite infectious! thank you 😊 both for another wonderful walk round a pleasant and interesting Town with lots of history! 🤗

Fantastic walk! You bring the history of these ancient Cornish towns to life, and what a beautiful streetscape Penryn has :) Your guide book to the history of the town is a gem of a find. Those opes are a curiosity ~ I suspect it needs a lot of cooperation between neighbours to keep everyone happy sharing the space. Btw, loving the new hair-do Sarah...really suits. Not forgetting you Andrew...that beard is looking quite distinguished! Brilliant video :)

I love your historical walks in Cornwall. I really admire the respect the English people have for old building. In most places in America you do not find buildings that are over 200 years. This walk reminded me of that very old building by the harbor in Port Isaac. It's so old and looks like it's going to fall down and yet, it is perserved. Thank you for another lovely walk down the streets of Cornwall.

Loved the quirky knockers!! You two really do have the same interests that we do here...finding out about the history of a place and discovering things that others would just walk past without noticing. Such nostalgic history of Penryn especially the old Monastic college area with echoes of the past. And the icing on the cake was the reference to Thomas a Becket....the name Becket is in my family history and whispers from my gran & previous ancestors have always been that we were related somehow! I have managed to get back in time to the middle 1700's with the name of Becket with one of them being the local Mayor. And of course I'm not that far away from Canterbury either! He seems to pop up everywhere in Britain! Love your weekly history lessons! x J x

I really enjoyed this, love the History of Cornwall, so glad the Cornish people look after their history to pass on to their families. When Bristol was bombed the Bristol council was not very sympathetic to its history, and rebuilt Bristol with horrid concrete square buildings xx

What a beautiful town to visit! I enjoyed this video so much. The building are so interesting with all their quirks and the homes at the back of the passageway are so lovely and the nice little streams. I’m going to watch this one again. I've never been there but feel like I have after watching your informative walk around. Seeing the light blue on various houses / buildings always reminds me of Cornwall (in style / in general). Hayle TC - where I usually Summer holiday - has a lot of light blue as a colour scheme & theme ("heritage") of course.

There's a Penrhyn in Wales too, spelling is slightly different but pronounced the same. The similarities between Welsh and Cornish don't end with the language either as Cornwall is quite similar geographically to the Llyn peninsula in North West Wales.
