The government of Kenya wanted to electrify the SGR in 2018 but preliminary research showed there was inadequate demand for electric trains in Kenya at the time! Now, the world bank says that the SGR is ripe for electrification in order to reduce emissions and increase speed of transportation! So expect the SGR to be electrified in the near future and the passenger trains will be traveling at 180 kph!

Yes, the plan was to convert it to electric once Kenya had the electricity sufficient supply to support an electric train. So when the SGR was done it had the provision to convert/upgrade it to electric. Our noisy neighbors never knew this and have been mocking Kenyans.
@esem135
@esem135 Жыл бұрын
@@mobeya2345 I agree. The current might be the stumbling block but the provision for electrifying it were there from the onset of the SGR construction. Good thing is it is upgradable, so whichever regime that can support will be able to implement it.
@mistasteeve
@mistasteeve Жыл бұрын
@@esem135 SGR is a 1-track railway. It can never be upgraded, or upgradeable. Ethiopia have a 2-track electric train from the coast, Djibouti to the capital. Soon Tanzania are going to have a 2-track electric railway from Daresalam to the Uganda border. Due to Corruption and short-term thinking Uhuru missed out on a chance to leap forward Kenya in the transportation system. In Two years all cargo going to Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda will be passing through the Tz SGR

Development can be a curse especially in Africa, one day Kenyans will see and understand why South Africans are misunderstood and are called names, simply because we say, all is welcome in our country, but we want you to respect our country and our laws, and this is not xenophobia. We are misunderstood. Keep growing Kenya, you are closer to us as a Bantu, we understand and love you.🇿🇦🇰🇪, you will see scammers, cyber criminals, etc, development often invite these types of criminals, we have plenty in South Africans, giving our country a bad name, many are from .... country, you which one. West Africa.

I am an South African and I agree. Pre 2017 we had a market in our small town offering fresh fruits and vegetables. Then in 2017 a contractor tore down the traditional market and there stands a supermarket in it's place now... Aka no more access to fresh consumables. Most of the people of our town now consume processed food and that's not healthy at all!

Beautiful new infrastructure. The key here is a maintenance program that protects this excellent asset. If everything from the ballast rock, rails, rolling stock, signaling and structures are not maintained, in twenty years this will all be ready for the scrap heap. When someone suggests "deferred maintenance" that's when the trouble begins, because with that phase comes the inevitable corruption that allows the deterioration of the system to take off.

@@maryannenjuguna8771 so do we call everything we import by the country? So when you buy a dress from SHEIN you go around telling people china dress. It’s your dress for Gods sake! You bought it. FYI, this train is not a free gift from China.

My country Kenya is overrated. Why only choose specific beautiful locations and not the dirty parts? Nairobi is dirty and poorly planned in many areas

Dirt and filth isn't unique to Nairobi only visit Lagos and Accra and see for yourself it's worse but at least something is being done in Kenya to help alleviate the situation like the railway city that is being built by the United Kingdom

Kenya’s SGR will be electrified soon thanks to the world bank saying so! And there’s also plans to extend it throughout Kenya like from naivasha to malaba and from lamu to South Sudan and Ethiopia! So I don’t see how Tanzania and Ethiopia are superior 🤷‍♂️
