Theory. The necrons did indeed have a tomb complex on the world of Medusa however it was destroyed during the dark age of technology when humanity was at its peak. However in order to eradicate this threat, the core of the planet was super charged to become techtonically unstable and thus destroy the underground complexes while mostly sparing the surface. This would explain how the natives knew of the long destroyed machines but also explain how some necron presence was still on the planet.

Great theory and well within the capabilities of Iron Men, I mean if they can bite a chasm in reality through the surface of a planet, they can do pretty much anything... hell to them clearing a slumbering Necron tomb by destabilising a planets molten core would be little more than routine pest control.

Another plausibility is that Ferrus encountered a C'tan shard. Maybe it had escaped and was using the planet of Medusa IV to hide out on or that at some point in the distant past the Necrons were transporting a tesseract vault when something happened and the vault containing the shard was lost, only to crash upon the planet. At some point Ferrus Manus awoke the C'tan shard and the two did battle. Ferrus successfully destroyed the shard, but in the process his arms were severely injured(maybe when he drowned it in a river of lava) and the necrodermis bonded to his flesh.

It is indeed entirely possible that the planet was a Tomb World, and the various Canoptek constructs that were required for maintenance of both the Tomb complexes and stabilising the tectonics of the planet were slowly destroyed over time, letting the Tomb complexes be eradicated throughout the millennia. This way the Asanoth survives as a lone construct going off basic preservation programming, becoming little more than a feral beast.

I am picturing that scene from Age of Ultron, where Ironman auto-punches Hulk in the face saying "Go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep" I think it could happen like that with Iron *Hands* and a Necron Tombworld. Necron presence? Absolutely. Possibly a science lab where they experiment with a early form of Necrodermis - or at late replacement for it. Of coruse there are plenty of other minor Xenos that might have a similar style or material but are less known. The Warhammer 40k Universe is full of horrors. Tombworld? Unlikely. And not anymore either way. A planet with heavy volcanic activity is not the right place to get a good 100 million years of rest! They must have been awefully pressed to think that a planet that needs to be artificially stabilized would be a good place to go to sleep. And even then, the permanent disturbance of the tombs by the current volcanic activity should have awakened or destroyed them left, right and center. If this ever was a tomb world, it should have seen partial or full awakening centuries ago. And there would not be a lot of it left anyway by now.

This was fun. Personally, I like the idea that Medusa is a Tomb World, or more specifically WAS a Tomb World. The Necrons slept for ages; around 65 million years, or so, and that's plenty of time for geology to change. Perhaps when the Necrons went to sleep, it was more stable. They could've erected some defenses, like the aforementioned stasis field generators, but there are other examples of Newcron tech not surviving intact through the whole sleep period. Perhaps the developing instability hit the planet, and what Necrons were functional for maintenance weren't up to task of protecting their complex, leading to its destruction. Some roving traces could survive, and without lead from units bearing command protocols, they just continued mindlessly repeating old tasks, or went mad/malfunctioned. We know that even Necrons' repair protocols have upper limits, and certain systems depend on higher ranking lords, or even phaerons, to function properly, so maybe it just suffered a catastrophic failure, after a Yellowstone event, or other massive tectonic shift simply destroyed its systems, leaving it without necessary leadership.

Not the planet I would expect to be a tomb world (mundus planus takes that one), but I wouldn't be against it. I don't find the iron hands to be the most interesting chapter, and making their home planet a tomb world would be really interesting. Due to its very fucked tectonic structure, I doubt it would be a tomb world sadly. But it would be cool to see a tomb world where alot of the necrons were destroyed over the millennia, and seeing the leadership of the tomb world having to deal with these losses ontop of tomb complex damage and being on a planet controlled by Astartes. That would make a very interesting story, from the perspective of both the iron hands and the Necrons. Lots of potential there. Haven't watched the full video yet, but i know its gonna be great already. Keep up the great work Lore Master Rem!

In the novel The Infinite and the Divine, one of the two main characters mentions that some worlds were seeded long in the past, with some world ending necron wyrms (i believe he said wyrms), to eradicate the local population. The beast Ferrus Manus destroyed would be most probably one of these beasts, which would account for the his Iron Hands. Another theory is that the great tectonic upheaval could have disabled permanently the tomb world, thus preventing it's occupants from being awoken or outright destroyed, as again, the same novel, it is known another tomb world had been permanently destroyed by a particularly strong solar flare.

For some reason I really like this idea because it allows for world building where not once race is in power and there could be a constant tug of war for power. I reckon it could be a ancient tomb world but like one of the unimportant ones or otherwise the necrons would have reclaimed it.

My idea would be that it was a tomb world at some point. But after the Great Sleep had begun, an event triggered the terrible tectonic shifts on Medusa. The Necrons, asleep and unable to adapt, were buried or crushed as the planet shifted. Thus, the tombs were effectively obliterated with only small parts remaining being what we see today.

It was a Tomb World, the Old Ones nearly destroyed it or it was the refuge of "The Dragon" during the betrayal and it was him, not some lesser Necron construct, that Ferrus battled with as his final great test before rejoinig the Emperor! Initial lore do said that Ferrus' hands where mechanical before the battle and became living metal after 'He plunged the great metal snake into the volcano until it was no more!', a battle in 'the Valley of metal giants' (the Dragon's necrons were known as the largest ones by the Eldar...). Manus had some weird reactions to certain events; he didn't test the Emperor like others did upon meeting him, instead recognising him on the spot showing greater insigth than most other Primarks but he was 100% convinced he could defeat Horus in single combat? He was so enraged by Chaos that he let his emotions get in the way of logic? How did he appeared to the reest of the Iron Hands to say he was resting on Mars, healing, and that he would return? Ferrus never showed Psychic abilities! How convenient that 'The Dragon' is also rumored to rest on Mars! Could he have merged in part with the greates C'tan or even been replaced by him? It would explain the lack of resistance to the Emperor; a fight would have revealed his true nature, and that he was so enraged by Chaos! I know, the Lore was retconned, but the whole Novel retelling is full od holes! Not one reliable witness could confirm the way it happened; Chaos is full of Liars and the gullibles! Ferrus Manus is supposed to be the First Primark to die, and Horus had no way to be sure he would kill another or Sanguinus himself; why would they give his head to Argon? It would have been a great psycholigical weapon against the Loyalists! Why would a Khorne worshiper accept a Slannesh's leftovers? It is more likely that Ferrus did something so outrageous that everyone prefered to lie about what they saw; no marine has seen a Necrn before, let alone a C'tan, and the crazy things they do like survive beheadings or opening gates that don't use the Warp or the Eldar Webway... But as usual GW doesn't know what to do with the Iron Hands; just look at the missed opportunity of the Eye of Terror campaign; they were the nearest Chapter to the Eye, but they recieved no attention from GW. No new untits or characters, no battle report, they were on the star map but you couldn't access it on the website and they only got one or two mentions in the conclusion report of the campaign; most of the Chapter was far away figthing Xenos and they had a prison revolt on a penitentiary moon that was quelled by the Arbitres! That is it.

I feel like the answer is that the Necrons Tomb got dumpstered by the geological upheaval, and maybe some of the power sources are still viable that make the lights

I think in the books Shattered Legion and/or Old Earth the counsel of elders from Medusa try to resserect Ferrus Manus using his metal arms that had been recovered. They belive that the soul of the primark is still within the metal as they describe it as having an "anima" to them. This would make sense if the creature he fought was not only a Necron construct but a fragment of a Ktan as well. It would have been a small shard with almost nothing left of the original Ktan personality but the basic will to survive.

I would say that it indeed can be a tomb world. Necrodermis is called living metal for it almost looks like dense liquid changing its shape as it repairs itself. Also in the past, there were many instances when the tomb world got wiped out by unpredictable events such as solar flare or electromagnetic impulse wiping tomb worlds collective data bank clear. But do not be mistaken. Tomb worlds are durable to such degree, that some more heavily fortified part can survive even exterminatus rendering the planets outer geological shell unstable or destroyed.

I wasn't aware this was a question I genuinely thought this was a given. That it was a broken tomb world, chogoris is too aswell if I remember correctly. I always figured it was the iron men fighting a unprepared necron dynasty that fucked it up so horrendously

Medusa's got to be special. I mean, as far as I know it's the first contact the Imperium has with the necrons and it dates back thousands of years before the first official encounter and these necrons would be active in some way on the worlds surface before the bulk of the necrons waking up. That is of course assuming these are necrons and not something else such as men of iron. At any rate, probably one of the more interesting space marine home worlds

Pretty much he was actually the first primarch to be found and was taken care of and taught by the Emperor then later down the line when he met his twin Omegon they switched roles So the Real Omegon took upon Alpharuis's identity and role while the Real Alpharuis became Omegon so he could work in secret and do some hidden jobs for the Emperor and such.Thats why "Alpharuis" turned traitor and led the alpha legion down the heretical path and why "Omegon" knew better and did everything he could to stop the real Omegon AKA "Alpharuis". Then when Rogal Dorn executed "Alpharuis" that was actually Omegon and the Real Alpharuis is still currently alive and traveling with Inquisitor Einshour's retinue from what I've Heard from Chapter Master Valrak. I haven't read the book yet but this is what I've heard from Valrak and some other 40k KZfaqrs.

Unless they have changed the lore, Medusa is a very geological active world. If Iceland was a planet and it was on steroids then it would be called Medusa. Every settlement has to be mobile and ready to move on a moment's notice because the ground could split open at anytime. Because of the kind of world it is I don't think it would be possible for Medusa to be a Tomb world.

The problem with this is that, this being the case, the Iron Hands should have have records of Necron architecture and iconography. When the Imperium officially encountered the Necrons, the Iron Hands should have come forward and shared that information, at least with the Inquisition and the High Lords. That doesn't disprove anything, but it raises the question of why they didn't. The Iron Hands are not a particularly secretive Chapter.
