Let's talk about whether or not the motorcycle culture is fading. Do you all think that it is or not? Do you see an influx of riders or is it slowly fading in your areas? I talk about what I see in my area and how I'm trying to pass this culture onto my sons. Let's discuss in the comments section. Would love to hear your thoughts!

I gave our 33 year old son that refuses to move out of our home my 1999 Fatboy thinking it would get him out of the house more, but he sold it and bought a 🤬 $2,000 gaming system that takes up even more of his time.

Holy crap!! I don't even know what I would do or say if one of my kids sold my bike that was gifted to them. That gaming stuff is on a whole other level. It definitely has a grip on these kids.

Hey Nore welcome back!!! Great topic!!! Today's younger generation seems more concerned with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) scores. This seems to be prioritized over simply buying a bike to enjoy a ride.

Good one big Nore. It's slowing down big time in SoCal IMO. Thoughts on why they don't go the Harley route? Most of them get on KZfaq and see one or two things. A guy sitting in the garage talking the talk or a guy putting thousands into a bike to make it fun or fit for the owner. Let's not forget the true ownership cost. There is no benefit of riding a Harley as a commuter motorcycle even if you do the maintenance. You're better off in a car if you want low maintenance cost. $50 oil changes every 10,000 miles vs $120 plus oil changes every 5,000 miles. Rear tires...the list goes on.

It's always been with the older crowd with motorcycle culture here in CT. It's all because of the cost of living and the cost of most motorcycles. It's not fading. It's just changing with the times of today.

As a old fu**** 😂🤣 around here in Southern Indiana there are more older riders but there is more sport bikes and Adventure bikes than there was 10 years ago. One thing foreshore is the number of Trike motorcycles I have seen this year has tripled. And yes Harley's rule the roost around here. Thanks for sharing with us✌️

I believe motorcycle interest isn't diminishing, but I think there are key factors at play: 1) Motorcycles now often cost as much as cars. 2) Young riders face steep insurance costs. 3) Limited finances hinder addressing these issues. In Canada, where I used to live, these concerns were prevalent among young cruiser and Harley-Davidson enthusiasts. Now residing in Portugal, I've noticed a growing number of young riders across Europe. They're moving away from Harley-Davidson and cruisers due to high costs and outdated technology, favoring naked and adventure bikes. While new bikes can still be pricey, insurance rates for both bikes and cars are notably affordable. For example, I own a 2011 Custom V-Rod Muscle and a 2022 KTM Super Duke R Evo, and I pay only 350 euros annually for insurance. Back in Canada in 2006, I paid 2,500 Canadian dollars per year for a 2003 Yamaha Road Star. The older generation, with more resources, often opts for models like the BMW K 1600B or Honda Goldwing to go around Europe as an example. When i went to the island of men, there was more young riders then old (18 to 25 dominated )

Thanks for watching and commenting. This is the kind of discussion I like to have. Everywhere is different, but the same thing remains, which is the economy. I have noticed an increase in adventure bikes. And you're correct about those insurance costs for younger people. They are through the roof!! 👊🏽🤙🏽

Wherever I see bikes that have gathered in groups or hang out together, same thing, generally of the older folks. But when it comes to Harleys, definitely older, but I think a Harley is the kind of bike I might wanna own when I grow up... and I don't think I'll ever grow up 🤔😂🤣.

Most of the big bike riders I see around here are mid to late 30"s and up. The kids ride crotch rockets. Some of them, not all, have that "I'm too smart to listen to someone who knows what they're talkin about" attitude. The younger kids start on scooters and 125 or 150cc trail bikes, so we don't see them much. I'd have to say the "old culture" is fading. Slowly, but fading. There's not the same kind of ruggedness on the road as there was 30 or 40 years ago. Roads were shit, bikes broke down, but were easy to get goin again, and everyone wasn't in a hurry all the time. You had to be stubborn, willing to sleep on the ground in a pouring rain, and a little crazy to ride across a state, or the country, on a bike back then. The road, and life in general, was harder, and people were harder because of it. Today, very little of that rugged life is left. The cowboy on his horse roaming the west evolved into men on bikes roaming the country. Now, most are just riding to a job they don't want to be at. Me? I'm just glad when I can ride through the hills and backwoods to enjoy the scenery. We don't know when our time is up. So enjoy all you can while you can. My knees will be in the breeze as long as I can twist that throttle.

Good to see you Nore. I thonk the Harley price tag has a lot to do with it. The state of the economy also influences where people spend their money. For many a motorcycle is a secondary vehicle. As inflation hits everyones wallet, spending first goes to necessities. Ride safe and enjoy. 👊✌️👍

I live in a college town and I believe the motorcycle culture has been fairly stale the last decade or so. Most of our dealers sell the Japanese metrics so for the 20-30’s crowd you see a good amount of the sports bike scene in the area. Kids look for inexpensive set of two wheel. Most of the old crowd are on cruisers and baggers. I guess I’m one of those in between individuals, I fair towards the cruiser and bagger side but not quite with old crowd yet. This younger generation is definitely not the risk takers we grew up to be.

I think the general view on typical motorcycle culture is changing. So it's not going away, it's changing. Let's be honest, motorcycle "culture" usually refers to cruiser motorcycle ridden by older folk. A lot of those people can be real gatekeepers making new and young riders not feel welcome or be identified with that crowd anyway. It just depends on the events you go to. Where I'm from there's more people with their motorcycle license than ever before.

We have a good amount of younger riders up here. I think it’s the military bases. I will say this, you don’t see the younger ones so much at the “old head” events. Pokers runs and such…they tend to be around the bike nights or dealer events with things like stunt shows and performance bikes. I’ll have to pay more attention.
