My dad was super controlling over the thermostat and I was always miserable in the summer, sweating and getting sick from the heat. I vowed I would NEVER be that uncomfortable in my own home once I was an adult and paying the bills. I've kept that promise to myself and no matter what, my comfort is one thing I refuse to compromise on. I'm not wearing a coat in the house during winter time and I refuse to be sweating and miserable in the summer.

If you turn your heat down too low you will not save money if you are setting it low and cranking it back up daily. Everything in the house to the drywall gets to that cold temp and it takes a ton of energy to warm that up. Set it back a few degrees only. If you're going to be gone for week that's different. But daily? No, it doesn't help and may make it worse. If you have a heat pump definitely do not let it get too cold.

I thought he was being whiny till she said the temperature. I keep it at 68 during the day in the winter, 63 at night. My family complains about it, but I hate having to do a wardrobe change every time I go in or out of the house. If I'm wearing a sweater outside, I don't want to change into shorts and a t-shirt when I come inside. Same thing in the summer. I want to wear shorts outside and not have to switch into sweats when I come inside.

You sound very selfish. I wouldn't put up with your nonsense for one minute.

I’m so thankful my house seems to heat up from the sun shining into it 😂 we haven’t put on the heat yet and we live in Boston too. Trying to see how long we can go before we need our propane tank refilled.

I wouldn't wait too long you don't know if the price will shoot up or there will be a "shortage". Best to be prepared early.

I have to laugh with this woman! I’m in northern NH and I routinely keep the house heat at 60... when she said the house was 52 degrees I shrugged and thought “yeah, just wear a sweater and scarf. Haha - I get it girl!

@@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 Freezing is at 32 F. Not even close. But it’s an acquired temperature for sure! You should see me in hot and * humid weather - I cannot tolerate it!

@@katiejon17 From natural wear and tear as well. I do not think the pipes necessarily have to be freezing. There is still expansion and contraction going on.

@@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 I don’t think you are getting it. If water doesn’t freeze, pipes aren’t just going to break on their own. You do you.

I have been there. Our electric bill was $13.49 when we were getting out of debt. I we lived in our huggies and sweatpants. I at one point had palm gloves to cook with.

We turned off all of our breakers except for T.V. & refrigerator, for one month. No heat & no hot water, just to get out of debt. We basically punished ourselves and learned the hard way.
