Being a smaller guy in my gym, I developed a one hand left lapel game out of survival. I constantly felt at a disadvantage the moment we got into traditional right vs right. I’d be out gripped and even if I’d get good position I’d get out powered. My entire system became post on left lapel, move around at distance then blast into snap down kouchi, standing and drop ippon Seoi, ippon grip osoto, and a funky “Mongolian” taio. It may not be everyone’s primary strategy, but It’s worked for me.

Great video! I really love the two-on-one lapel grip for bjj. Indeed, it is very powerful for breaking posture, especially for entering into leg attacks like single legs and ankle/knee picks.

Excellent, I often grip over the top and my regular uke know this and so counter hard. For a moment during randori last week I got a single collat grip. Good to have a few ideas from there.

Interesting, as I’ve often thought of aikido as “one point distance grappling”, and judo as “two-three points”. You can hardly force your opponent so timing and going with the flow/force becomes extremely important 🤔

Havent watched the video yet but as a Judo 2nd Dan and BJJ purple can confirm one hand is more than enough vs a BJJ player with poor stand up or an untrained opponent. Nothing more fun than doing a sode with one hand

I've never seen a same sided grip uchimata. Doesn't mean it wouldn't work, just not seen it before. Would be cool to have an uchimata of different grips.

It is if you’re opponent isn’t ready for it or if he’s untrained. I know because I have a busted up shoulder and can only effectively use one arm to bring down our clients if they loose it and become aggressive.

Do they even throw in most BJJ classes these days? I thought BJJ classes just had their students lay on the ground and try to provoke your opponent into your guard.

Cuase judo rules make people uninterested

@@mmongiello722 That's fine with me. The rules provide structure. This is why people get hurt, not long after starting BJJ. Anything that everyone can do, is "not" for me. It's trendy now, celebrities are doing it too. But you have to get rid of all the stuff that makes it self defense art.
