I think apart of why people stress over porosity is because a lot of influencers with long hair say it's the most important factor for hair growth. Another factor they stress is curl type 😩

Yes, I agree. I seem to have lie porosity but my hair doesn't seem to fit any regimen based on porosity. I have found more benefit in knowing my curls type wrt products and regimen. I hav reaped more benefit from YTers with my curl type more than porosity. But that's just me and I always tell my friends that I only know MY hair, so I can't give advice. @@GreenBeauty

I started stressing over porosity when I began to transition to grey. I was low porosity but everyone kept saying that grey hair becomes more porous, which I couldn't understand since I never colored or chemically treated my hair. With all the confusion about caring for grey hair I was ready to throw in the towel and go back to relaxer. It's funny how going grey is inevitable but no one knows how it affects the porosity.

Damaged hair or hair that has been colour treated i.e. use of permanent dyes or even bleaching the hair etc. causes the hair to become that of a high porosity. Additionally, high porosity hair tend to lose moisture rather quickly due to the damage cuticles. So although they can absorb moisture quickly, it also loses moisture quickly leaving the hair dry and brittle thus easy to break. I always enjoy your content. Keep them coming 😊

When neither of the suggested porosity regimens were appropriate for my hair, I had my suspicions. When I treated my hair as if it were normal porosity, had zero issues. After that I started noticing all the contradictions in everyone’s videos.
@CurlyCrowie

This may be what I need to look at. My hair doesn't respond well to High and low porosity regimens. Although the hair in the glass has never shown me anything more than low porosity. Even if I spray my hair it seems to just run off my hair. So I may just be normal porosity.

My hair porosity started to improve over the course of this year when wore it out for longer periods and was consistent with my regimen. Also drastic improvements with Ayurvedic treatments (aloe Vera powder in my deep conditioner). And tea rinses. I want to say that the water in a glass experiment does not work but I knew that my hair used to dry up before I could finish drying off my body. Now it stays dripping wet for about an hour before it starts to dry out with no product. Game changer!

The purpose of the medulla layer is still a mystery so, its hard to find information about this. Its hardly really talked about, at least publicly, in the science world. But, the medulla is the only layer in hair that houses living cells. The other two layers (cuticles & cortex) only have non-living keratinized epithelial cells. The only hair type that has the medulla layer is course hair. Research on hair tends to be very "one sided" so, hair is often described as dead fibers but, thats not the case for course hair types. Here some mentions of it: www.hairknowhow.com/know-your-hair-structure laurakcollins.com/3-categories-that-determine-hair-type/ itsa10haircare.com/blogs/hair-guides/coarse-hair-guide#:~:text=Unlike%20thin%20or%20medium%20hair,a%20strand%20between%20your%20fingers.

I make sure the hair is clean, dry and free of products. Also, water beads up on my hair but it does not take long to soak up the water and it dries fast. Well, the roots are wet but the rest is bone dry the next day. There’s other low and high porosity characteristics my hair does but I don’t want to make this any longer.
