Red Dead 2 is my GOTY. Most gamers still have an old-school mindset. They need to be shooting or looting stuff every minute of a game to keep them entertained. I absolutely love the slow-paced, realistic (Western) feel of Red Dead 2. A lot of atmosphere and character-building. God of War was great too, but its side content kind of ruined the flow of the game (just more filler quests) whereas side content in Red Dead 2 further explores the character(s) and culture/society.

*Sc00P* ! It's my favorite, PS4! Definitely! PS4, than PS3 (Demon's Souls GOTG), than PS2, and than PS1. The problem with the first two PlayStation consoles for me is that I liked N64 way more and better than PS1, and I ended up liking OG Xbox more than my PS2 because of Ninja Gaiden, KOTOR 1&2, The Chronicles of Riddick, Splinter Cell up to Chaos Theory, Halo 1&2, Fable, Jade Empire, Conker, PGR 1&2, plus more. Plus, multiplats looked better on OG Xbox and supported HD and HDTVs plus Xbox Live. *However* , PS3 is my favorite console of its gen by the end on the strength of its exclusives like *Demon's Souls* , Catherine, Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 1-3, Killzone 1-3, God of War 3 and Acension, The Last of Us, Uncharted 1-3, Little Big Planet, The David Cage games, InFamous 1&2, Journey, etc, etc. *But the PS4 is now my favorite console of all time* . PS4 has some of my favorite PS3 games remastered running pristine plus its exclusives like Bloodborne, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy, Spiderman, Persona 5, Ratchet and Clank, The Order 1886 yes I loved it, Ni No Kuni 2, Gravity Rush 2, Detroit, InFamous Second Son and First Light, Until Dawn, etc and etc have all Blown My Mind. The Kid Icarus Uprising multiplayer modes were so great! It was a third person arena shooter with 6 people! I played the hell out of it when it came out.

Kid Icarus Uprising is one of my favorite games of all time! I was literally yelling "it's Kid Icarus!" At my screen during twenty questions. Aside from that it was an enjoyable show as always, keep up the good work!

Not to sound like an "angry" fan, but Uprising's multiplayer was far from " tacked on." It was SO good. Free-for-all death match with heavy weapon and ability customization. Random matchmaking. Connection (net code?) was good as far I could tell. It was actually really fun, but you can imagine that the control-scheme and screen size were limiting factors.

I'm guessing there won't be any SCOOPS this week because of the holiday? I need to know! Also, let's get another round of Game Scope going guys! SCOPE!

KZfaq killed strategy guides but it's ok. I need to finish these games faster. I'm older have more responsibilities and there are so many games to get to play when I'm done. I loved pouring through a final fantasy strategy guide. Or having my little brother read the strategy guide as I played the parts we were on. But times have changed. PS3 is my favorite console of all time just so many great exclusives: resistance, killzone, uncharted, star hawk, twisted metal, sly 4, the ratchet future games, god of war 3 etc. The 3rd party games of last generation were so much better than this generation: mass effect trilogy, dead space, enslaved Odyssey to the west, etc. I miss the ps3 era so much I hate all this online only crap

How needed the text guides now in the age of KZfaq guides? Personally I even as I order text ones, sometimes it feels easier to search for one on KZfaq. I think it should be even more so for next generations of gamers.

Even if it was hard to develop for it, I think Ps3 had the best games. I still have my ps3 super slim with it's 500 gb filled to the max because of games like ninja gaiden, god of war, devil may cry, yakuza, dark souls (and demon souls), last of us, all those ratchet and clank games, final fantasy, uncharted, assassin's creed, red dead redemption, dragon age, mass effect, the tales of serie, burnout paradise, LA Noire, the batman games, need for speed, gran turismo, max payne 3, little big planet, twisted metal, motorstorm, gran theft auto, metal gear and many more. It had a lot of hd remaster of Ps2 games that look great with our high definition televisions and many of the ps3 games aged really well too. Speaking of high definition, it had a blu ray player and because of this, we were able to have more content with games like bioshock infinite that included the first bioshock on the disk or with assassin's creed revelation that also include the first assassin's creed with it or with rage with it's 7 gb installation on Ps3 instead of it's 20 gb on the xbox 360 and that's also because it had a blu ray player that we were able to get metal gear solid 4 in all it's glory as well as god of war 3 and ascention with all their fancy textures and I can say the same for last of us or the uncharted games where the textures were streamed right from the blu ray. Honestly, the Ps3 was hard to develop for, but I love this machine in all of it's complexity because without the cell processor and the blu ray player, we wouldn't have games that pushed graphics, gameplay and story telling as much as they did back then.

I'm pretty sure most consoles have historically lasted for at least 5 years before their next gen replacement arrived, so I don't think the PS4 is doing anything special in that regard. And, personally speaking, I think we should actually be aiming to have the console cycle last as long as possible, so people who aren't swimming in money don't have to keep feeling like they're falling behind every handful of years, and also so each console really gets enough time to fully develop and mature into being the best system it can be as well as offer a truly rewarding and satisfying experience for those people who have invested so much of their money and time into it. With some companies now doing the whole 1.5 mid-gen upgrades, I would actually find it insulting if they still released a proper next-gen system after the same roughly 5 years as normal. That really just translates into a much, much shorter console cycle when all is said and done and for all intents and purposes. If we're going to go with mid-gen updates as a thing now, then I'd actually want generations to maybe last 10 years from now on. The 1.5 systems can fill in the gap mid-gen.

Have physical store bought strategy guides gone back to being good? ( BTW. You should be proud of your guides! IGN guides are good. IGN and gamefaqs are my two main sources. And sometimes cross referencing those sites helps more than either one alone.) I haven't perused a strategy guide in years. Strategy guides used to be awesome. They had full maps marked with locations of everything (collectibles, items, upgrades, secrets, P.O.I.'s, etc.) Checklists so you could look up what is in the game you may have missed. Screenshots for reference to locations. But, by the time early 2000's came around, physical strategy guides became little more than novelizations of the basic progression through the games. I remember a few barely even covered those extras that a person would need a guide for in the first place. Basically, they began missing the point of them, entirely! Adding insult, as well, their prices have inflated drastically while their quality decreased, IMO. Guides in the '90's were $10-$15. And recently I've seen them for $30! I won't shed a tear for the loss of guides as I last remember them becoming. Which soured me to them. P.S. The Ninja Gaiden 3 guide was one of the most pointless ones. I saw it being offered at the store to buy when I picked up NG3, and said "not wasting my money and that trash (The guide)!" Later, after playing the game a bit I wondered, "How many different ways can someone write, 'Walk forward, fight some guys. Then walk forward, fight some guys.'" Because, all there was to NG3, is walk forward and fight some guys.

Resurrect F-Zero. And take is serious and do it right. No stupid gimmicks, just an amazing F-Zero game. And this one is likely never going to happen, but a proper new Mother game would just be amazing if created with the same kind of budget and passion as the latest Mario and Zelda games get. Also, a new Advance Wars.

I think the way IGN approaches "best Xbox/PS/Nintendo game" is fine, but why not ADD the categories of "best Xbox/PS/Nintendo EXCUSIVE game". Cover all the bases yeah?

I would disagree that the PS4 isn't a must own. There are lots of great exclusives that, if I only had an XBox One, I would seriously feel like I was missing out on. I have both and the PS4 is definitely my console of choice of the two.

Many video game outlets get star stuck and nostalgic about games series or the fade it game and grant them awards even when there are more deserving titles. The group think in media outlets tends to be really strong when it comes to GOTY take BOTW last year and most likely RDR2 this year as primary examples.

Why i love PS? We can all say we own base hardware n all of them look the same. Xbox One OG is one version then Xbox One S. When PS Pro sony releaaeed then Xbox did the same thing aftwr one year n came out with Xbox One X. Pro is 3 year old almost n OG PS4 is 5 year old. I just sold my base model n bought the Pro. Im happy with my console. I used the base model almost 5 years. I uptraded to Pro only a month now.

I really don't think Mega Man 11 is a particularly good recommendation here, of all the games the guy could be buying for his Switch. Mega Man 11 is the kind of game I'd think you'd buy if you own pretty much all of the obvious titles, have cash to spare, possibly have some nostalgia for older games and maybe even the Mega Man titles in particular, and are just looking for another random game you might enjoy. Personally, that's about the only way I'd even consider recommending it in a case like this.

In terms of technology, obvious. However, that doesnt make a Playstation (or any console), not even the sales. What makes a console its the library. For me, the PS2 destroys the PS4 any day of the week..................heck, it destroys the library of any other console as well (outside of PS1, SNES and Dreamcast, these three PS2 doesnt destroy, it only comes ahead).

God of War, bloodborne, uncharted, spider man, horizon zero dawn, ratchet and clank, last of us part two next year, and like tons of other games not mentioned? This is also a console that plays diablo, gta 5, rdr2, mgsv, fallout 4, the witcher 3, and a new elder scrolls presumably within the next year or two. I loved the ps2 and ps3, but if you had to own one, the experiences on ps4 are, for me, so much more worthwhile. Let's be honest, there doesn't exist a single ps2 game that hasn't aged at least a bit since it was the "it" console, many of which have aged quite poorly in fact. Ps3 is great and still looks good but frankly, very few games took advantage of ps3's hardware that well until the end of it's lifespam. Journey, tlou, mgs4, uncharted 2, etc. were great/amazing games, but I think when all is said and done, the ps4 will be the only console to boast a breadth, and depth of library comparable even to the ps2, which, for the time, had an obserdly. compelling library of games.

It's hard to pick between the PS1 and PS2, but if you ask me the PS3 and PS4 aren't even in the running. The games on those two systems look good but they're just so boring.

PS4 is my favorite Playstation. It just has the best games. Im sure once 10 or so years pass other people will come around to realize that fact. Also it sucks about Prima. There guides replaced instruction manuals for me. Ign guides just don't do the trick, I buy for the artwork not the actual guide.
