I feel like the “consciousness” part of the simulation theory is never fully appreciated, even by Kurzgesagt. The video talks about “simulating consciousness” by simulating the electrical activity in the brain, but we *ARE* conscious. We are definitively, inarguably conscious. So either (1) we are not “simulated consciousness”, or (2) a “simulated” consciousness is completely non-distinct from a “real” consciousness, and therefore the term “simulated consciousness” doesn’t mean anything.

I'm guessing you've never had a dream before IN YOUR LIFE. Reality isn't "real" because YOU are only your brain and everything else is just a sensor for you brain to process. Nothing you ever experience is EVER "reality" but how your brain perceives reality as it senses it. This means your brain not only IS your reality, but it can manipulate it any which way. Now, the brain isn't in the business to fuck with your reality as it's an evolutionary disadvantage to experience things that aren't actually happening. This means that when you LITERALLY poison your brain with drugs, it cannot process the information the same and begins manipulating what you believe is reality even though the purple dragon guarding the fridge is JUST as real as anything else. TLDR, you are only your brain... if you mess with how it operates, it'll start telling you that your sensors are fucked up.
@ryanthompson3737

Also literally what colour blindness is... it's literally the sensors (cones) in your eyes not being developed properly, so you end up missing an entire spectrum of light. Or, there are people with MORE cones and so can literally differentiate between 2 pinks that look the same and can even see colours that are IMPOSSIBLE for us to even imagine because they have access to a larger part of the spectrum than we do. They also struggle in life because NOTHING is ever the same colour, so shopping is hard, and some suffer from over stimulation because when they go into the cereal isle, their brain has to process so many different colours all at once that it becomes overwhelming.

1. Any species that evolves technologically will have to evolve with it. In the end, whether it human or little green space men, we are the weak link in the chain. For technology to advance far enough to be able to harness a star by encasing it, there will come a time during the process where we are replaced due to lack of efficiency. Why would robots spend hundreds of years gathering enough resources from multiple planets to build an engine capable of harnessing the sun built at that scale, only to turn around and use it to create a simulation for a highly inefficient and barbaric species that existed hundreds and hundreds of years ago? 2. How trippy would it be if a species from thousands of years in the future couldn't come back and alter time themselves, so they found a way to connect with us through our dreams. Some people take what's shown to them in sleeping dreams and day dreams and develop them into movies like The Matrix, which is actually a dire warning we all assume is just a blockbuster thought up by the Wachowski sisters.

The “computer around a star” is actually called a Dyson Sphere. It’s not quite a computer, rather a means of obtaining all of the energy of said star. The computer comes into play when you take all that stars energy, and use it to power a super computer. This channel has another video about Dyson Spheres specifically, and the 3 (I believe) ways we could achieve making one. Interestingly, one could be done within the next 30 years on our own Sun. It wouldn’t be 100% of the Sun’s energy output, but more than triple what the entire world produces.
@inkoalawetrust
@inkoalawetrust 3 жыл бұрын
Nah what Kurzgesagt mentions in the video IS different from a Dyson Sphere/Swarm, it's basically a variant of a Dyson Sphere/Swarm, where instead of the megastructure being used to only generate power, it is used to power a gigantic computer/cluster of computers to run ancestral simulations etc. Either way, a Dyson Swarm and/or a Matrioshka Brain that is actually a cluster of billions or trillions of orbiting supercomputers is a more feasible engineering task than encasing the entire star or most of it in one giant dome.
@SwiddyDiddy
@SwiddyDiddy 3 жыл бұрын
@@inkoalawetrust yeah the Dyson Swarm is what I was referring to. Not a true Dyson Sphere, but as close as feasible. Regardless, it wouldn’t be the Dyson Sphere itself that is the computer, just the means of gathering enough energy to power one capable of that kind of simulation.

We're not a simulation because we are alive . If a game had characters that were alive then it would no longer be a simulation because the whole point of a simulation is it's simulated . A simulation means it doesn't exist in reality... literally just means its based inside a machine that processes information, so how does consciousness have anything to do with whether a computer is involved? We don't even know if consciousness is even real, so why are you making such statements on it? How would you know if you were conscious? You can't even describe consciousness. mainly because people who go into a coma will often experience a form of consciousness. even thought they aren't.... soooo then how do you define what is conscious, what it even is, and if it can be simulated. If you can't tell the difference between being conscious and being unconscious, then how would a simulated being tell the difference? When a computer can literally place a thought into your head and make you believe you thought it, there is NO way to figure out what is real... because the computer will always tell you not to find out... and you would think you came up with it.

@ryanthompson3737
@ryanthompson3737 3 жыл бұрын
Or it also proves dimensions exist? If we were to imagine something that connects 2 levels of dimensions (our 4th to a theoretical 5th), we would probably expect a particle that ONLY materializes when observed inside the 4th dimension (The "physical" realm), but wouldn't look weird if you were sitting in the 5th dimension (the "time" dimension) where it would most likely follow an entirely different set of universal rules. Quantum theory can also be used to explain ACTUAL natural phenomenon which is why it's hard to use it as "evidence" for the simulation theory. The simple explanation i've seen also backs this theory up. The quantum observer (Always a human or object based in the 4th dimension) will always see a quantum particle as a particle, however, when unobserved will act as a WAVE much like all energy in the universe behaves (And what we can assume is also woven into the universe itself). This switch, to me anyways, suggest that quantum particles are actually our connection to other dimensions as it retains a default or different form until it's observed by matter that would only exist in the physical realm, or our 4th dimension. There are many ways this can behave. One way is that quantum particles connect ALL dimensions. Another one is that OUR quantum particles only connect up to a higher level (Like stitching on a quilt only connecting the neighboring squares), or maybe quantum particles are actually just unique to our plane of existence that will allow us to only traverse into the next plane, but then we'd have to find the equivalent "quantum particle" in the 5th dimension that our puny 4th dimensional brain probably couldn't even comprehend let alone discover.
