Just because we RV and live a pretty amazing lifestyle, doesn't mean we won't still struggle with depression. In this video we'll talk about ways RVing is good and bad for dealing with mental health.

Sleep schedule plays a vital role in how we feel regardless of the Vitamin D from the sun.

I totally agree that sleep schedule is super important. There are lots of studies on the importance of vitamin D and it's connection to depression. If I am in a place with little sunshine in absolutely affects my mental well being.

New subscriber here! I don't usually comment but I felt the need to. This is the video I needed out of ALL the ones out there for FT RV living. I suffer from anxiety & depression. I've been dreaming of a better lifestyle for my family. This was a topic running through my mind... Scared of battling a panic attack or bout of depression while being stuck in a confined space. You spelled it out perfectly: letting go, being self-reliant, the ability to "escape", & having less financial stress. All the things I need in my life! Thank you for being vulnerable and open. The realness is appreciated far more than you know!

Thank you. It's very hard for me to look at some channels and think "what is wrong with me" Why don't things come that easy for me?" Even when they DO share the ups and downs. And there is some crazy guilt involved with whether I SHOULD share things like this. I appreciate your support AND your channel. :)

Thank you for speaking up about this! I struggle with OCD and anxiety/panic disorder. It's hard to talk about because I worry that it makes other people uncomfortable but some days it takes every ounce of energy to just appear "fine." While nothing replaces working with my doctor/therapist, I will say that being out in nature does help me have a sense of peace. One day at a time, right? Sending you love today. Grateful for people like you who talk about this!

Kristen I can relate to this so so much! I, too, suffer from seasonal depression and deal with highs and lows even in this RV lifestyle. I think it’s important to know what your negative triggers are so that you can combat them. I think new matter how we live, this will be something we struggle with, but I know RVing Has been more of a positive and a negative on my personal mental health. Girl, if you are ever feeling down or you need an ear or a shoulder to cry on, please please call me. I am here for you! -Natasha

Thank-you Kristin for this video. I've been a full time RVer for 6 years. I've suffered from periods of depression most of my life. It seems the older I get the longer I seem to stay stuck in the grip of depression. The latest episode has left me very isolated. I believe RVing can further isolate people. At least for me it has been the case. Finding affordable places to stay usually entailed staying in remote areas, mainly federal lands. I enjoy nature, but remote isolation does not help with feeling a sense of connection. Lack of connection to others seems to be one of the main contributors to depression. In writing this comment my hopes are to find other full time RVers who struggle with mental health problems and hear how they found help. The last time I was this stuck in anxiety and depression i needed the structure of intensive outpatient help. I can relate to Kristin saying how challenging it is on the road with ever changing variables and all the associated decisions that are needed. Depression doesn't lend itself to the best decision making mindset.

I love that you opened up about this, I have struggled with this all my life, as it's definitely a family history and I also suffer from SAD. I am with you that RV life has definitely helped the financial side of this and the movement and change has helped as well as my husband! The planning can be extremely difficult though and tiring as my husband doesn't do much of this so I do it all as well as working in between. Thank God I have Jesus and I do rely a lot on him. I've been sad about missing out on experiences as well but I've learned to roll with it and say, " hey we can always come back", the joy of freedom this lifestyle gives. It's also been hard with Addy's medical issues although a blessing too because we have been able to take her to specialists and not worry about the traveling along with that because that is what we do however the medical community is not always understanding or on board with this non ordinary lifestyle so that has been difficult as well. Thank you for keeping it real! Keep up the great content! I definitely tried this but it's way out of my league to do this KZfaq stuff! Again Great Job

Very good topic to touch on. The tips you provided are important tools that can be beneficial in all situations. So often we see others as living a sort of 'best' life in which the downside is invisible to others and naturally is a false illusion. Mental health needs to be a subject that is not hidden away or taboo.

Hi! My husband and I instantly loved your channel. We are 2 months into rving for the first time and bought our rig here in Alaska! I can so relate to the planning fatigue. I’m not a great planner and we made a huge pivot in June to buy our Rv. A lot of places are booked on the weekends cause it’s summer in Alaska and apparently you have to plan way in advance. We are enjoying this new lifestyle but definitely feel the pros and cons. Thank you for your willingness to share your struggles and success!! ❤️🙏

Thank you for being REAL! No one ever truly knows what someone else may be struggling with. I get the "double whammy" as i like to call it. Having anxiety and depression but also feeling GUILTY that I do because I truly have such a BLESSED life. Sort of like a "I don't have any reason to feel this way." Super frustrating and I don't understand it. I do know that God is good and so I just continually pray for strength and try to remember that life is fleeting in the good times AND bad. Neither will stay for long. Best Wishes! Can you share the B-Complex supplement you take?

Thank you so much. Isn't it wild that we are conditioned to keep quiet? I think it's because we really don't want to hear others say what is echoed in our own heads. Stuff like "you have nothing to be sad about" "you're just entitled" "put on your big girl panties and suck it up buttercup" The sad truth is, these are real comments people will say. The very things we tell ourselves that make us even more sad, lonely and full of shame. So we just keep quiet. I don't know if I'm strong enough to hear all those things so I've asked John to help me filter comments here. But I'm so thankful for people like you and your encouragement. Thank you.

Kristin, thank you for discussing this topic. This has been my largest concern for my wife, as she is the same as you; although she has also diagnosed herself with having Asperger's. The two combined together, makes it very hard for us at times. Once we're on the road full-time next year, it'll definitely be challenging at times. As for you and John; I love to see how you both compliment each other with the "amazing husband/wife".... Never stop inspiring! Tim

I think that is a great idea. But I also think it would be pretty hard to open up to strangers. I totally agree though that sometimes we just need to talk things out. I have thought many times of finding a therapist while traveling that I can do zoom meetings with. It's just the cost as an uninsured person is a huge turn off. So perhaps you are on to something. :)

We are here though September 18th. I'm not sure about what it's like during the winter but I imagine it will be pretty cold and wet. Some people at the RV park we are at currently stay annually and have skirts around the bottom, wooden enclosed decks and reflectix over windows.

How has your sleep been since traveling to Alaska? (Could your issue be having too much daylight effecting your circadian rhythm? ) It may just be you need to add blackout curtains to your bedroom 🤓
@NoOrdinaryPath

Yes I think it has for sure. I'm already a night owl and have trouble sleeping. I never thought the light really affected me - when I'm ready to sleep it doesn't matter if all the lights in the RV are on - I'm going down. haha. But I do think it's encouraged me to stay up later and later. I'm just not tired when it's not dark out. It's getting darker now and I'm trying to force myself to go to bed earlier with the help of melatonin. :)
