If Brushogun didn’t try to make his waifu real, none of this would have happened

I saw this movie during the height of my Teen Titans phase, and while I enjoyed the movie, I think Raven, Beastboy, and Cyborg were more or less wasted in this movie. Obviously the Starfire and Robin dynamic was interesting to watch, I kind of expected them to get together as a couple.

I just thought it was fun seeing these characters on an adventure. Not the best ending to a series, but an ok stand alone thing

The only thing that really stood out was that Robin and Starfire hook up. The rest of it was ok but I didn't enjoy it as much as some of the normal eps.

It's hilarious watching Robin's "murder" as a Danganronpa fan. The game being set in Japan and well-known for its pink blood. So when I came across that scene a while ago I couldn't help but say in a monokuma voice "A body has been discovered" EDIT: Well this blew up! Howdy fellow Danganronpa people!

I actually really enjoyed this movie as a stand alone film. Just not the best ending for the series. I loved the fight scenes, it was just a fun movie

I remember seeing and liking this as a kid, but it’s been a long time. My favorite part was when Beast Boy was doing karaoke, but the lyrics were in Japanese, and he was like “Aw c’mon!” I always found that part really funny.

I might be wrong, but the "Raven hitting Beast Boy" thing might have been alluding to the trope in anime. That being said, it definitely feels off now that you've pointed it out.

The pink "blood" was likely just because it was changed from the studio not wanting it to be red. I'm sure the original intention was for it to be red because the response to it in the movie only makes sense that way. Tbh the only reason people like this movie is because Starfire and Robin officially become a couple and I can't blame them for that. I hope we get to revisit teen titans one day outside of go even though I'm pretty sure it could never live up to expectations.

there’s a really fantastic fanfic trilogy that I’m sure any fan of this show would enjoy. It is supposed to take place after season four, and I would even prefer this alternate continuation of it more than season 5. The trilogy consists of: Part 1 - The Life and Times of Red X Part 2 - Maiden of Stone Part 3 - A Tale of Two Apprentices Ever since I started reading these stories, I have been so addicted to them. It is more mature compared to it’s actual cartoon series, but then again so was the final season of Samurai Jack.

the movie actually feels more like a longer episode rather than a movie I enjoyed it, kinda, especially with the cheesy but still we all have been waiting for kiss, and Beast Boy singing in the karaoke, but I was more of expecting it to end the show or at least give us a continuation.........

Thanks for doing this video! Speaking about the blood on Robin's hands scene: I always thought the point is that he was being framed by Daizo. Therefore, it's not really neccessary for it to be that believable that he killed the guy since this Daizo is the villain and has command over the police force (this also foreshadows the reveal that he is Brushogun.) Overall, I'm about as biased as one can be since I started watching Teen Titans the day it first aired and will always love this movie, no matter what. Regardless, I LOVED your series and I'm sad it's over but you can be sure I'll be rewatching it!

It's fun to watch with some friends over but not so 'fulfilling'. I wouldn't watch this on my own to 'feel' something or appreciate something else. If anything, it's a 6/10 for me.

I agree. When this first aired I was pretty disappointed by this movie. I remember it aired at the same time as the Avatar the last air bender special that included the episodes “the serpent’s pass” and “the drill” and I decided to watch the Teen titans live over Avatar. After I caught up on Avatar I thought that I should have watched that one first.

Always loved this movie. Served as a very satisfying ending to the series. Mostly due to the resolution of Robin and Starfire’s relationship. I can’t really complain about the movie exploding their relationship more because as you said the show already did a great job setting all that up.

Still one of my favorite cartoon movies ever. I do wish they had more movies that were dedicated to the other characters because the plot was only focused on Robin and Star.

Not going to lie- I love this film. It's just a fun watch for me.

With Raven x Beast Boy dynamic in this movie, my head canon was that Raven and Beast boy had just seriously started dating (or getting close to it) right before the events of the film, and now Raven is much more jealous and outwardly aggressive towards Beast Boy, since the dynamic would have more of the playful bickering of a couple.

Beast boy is a genius, he said from the start that the dude wasn’t waterproof and he was right.

The ink is magenta because Cyan, Magenta, Yellow is the colour scheme applied to the Key (linework) of a printed comic. It is a reference to printing tech and foreshadows parts of the finale.

id say beast boy was actually as important as raven in the movie, he was the one who was interested in the comic book convention at the start. If he didnt point out then later when they come to the conclusion that it was the base would have felt too out of left field, and if they did manage to still point out the center in the beggining it might have felt more forced

The movie is meh. Honestly, I never cared for it. Robin and Starfire are the only characters in the movie that get anything interesting to do. And yes, Raven is off and Cyborg and BB are just doing hijinks. Also the villain in this movie sucks as well as the villain twist. That said, the action and animation are great.

I haven't seen this movie in a while, so I'll just list what I remember liking from it: Robin and Starfire officially becoming a couple, the ink monsters and their backstory, and some of the crazy stuff the Titans encounter in Tokyo. As for the whole pink 'blood' issue, well... pink is sometimes considered 'lightish-red.'

Seeing robin with a “WARRANT” for his arrest him going undercover becoming the “vigilante” vs robin even adapting to using sword in Tokyo..bro it was a sick movie. The foreshadowing of beast boy saying Seiko Tec wasn’t “waterproof” 😂 cause when is he ever right. They didn’t want to steal romantic thunder from StarRob..hence the distance of BBRae..and on another note he never really got closure from Terra . Also seeing him covered in “ink/blood”. It would have been an awesome solo movie for robin actually

*Is Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo As Great as We Remember?* Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo was never great. Nah, but seriously, I never liked the movie, not even back when it originally aired on CN. Everything you said about the movie was spot-on, except you forgot about an important detail, regarding the conflict between Robin and Starfire. The biggest problem I have with that AND the whole movie, is that Robin was very out-of-character. Sure, in the series, Robin would become so obsessed with catching bad guys (coughSLADEcough), that it would cause tension with his comrades, but he receives a good dose of character development and becomes much more in-control and less obsessive. Still, despite his flaws, he never forgot how to have fun! For God's sake, he and the Titans play video games, regularly eat at a pizzeria, and go to rave parties! That's why I never bought any of his angsty, stick-up-the-ass "heroes don't *insert fun thing here*" BS. I wouldn't be surprised if he really DID have a stick up his ass through the whole movie. Hell, speaking of Robin and Starfire's relationship, you were also correct about the series handling that so much better. I absolutely adore the chemistry they have; with Starfire's innocence and curiosity about Earth, accompanied by Robin being very friendly and patient as he teaches her. There were many signs of a budding romance between them, but in my eyes, they became official in 'Stranded.' As a culmination of their relationship development, that episode did a much better job than that movie ever accomplished. I don't care if they kissed in the movie, because everything before said kiss felt like a forced, contrived mess! And what WAS the deal with Raven's attitude towards Beast Boy???

I just finished binge-watching the "Teens Titans" series, immediately followed by this film: so, fresh in memory. I found the movie essentially to be a good mid-season episode, not much more. Whereas the T.V. program offered some entries that were beautifully told (e.g., Robin-Slade saga; Terra-Slade saga; Raven-Trigon saga; series finale), this movie encompasses one decent plot-point (Robin-Starfire, which already had been explored well in the television episode wherein the team visits a distant planet), then furnishes mostly filler-material that is just about satisfactory.

I think it was supposed to look like the dude's blood specifically because in a world of superpowers and aliens anyone blood color could be anything. but yeah the execution was bad cause i didnt even realize it was meant to be blood till way later

You should do one of these about Scooby Doo Mystery Inc. It's a major nostalgia point and is fun to look back at.

I honestly didn't think much of it. Yeah it was great Robin and Starfire got together. But overall the film wouldn't be out of place with a regular TT Episode. They had some interesting concepts but the payoff was..."Meh"

I disagree with you. I love this film and its great. I can see some of the missed opportunities you mentioned, but the end result I love and wouldn't trade for anything. The comedy is great, I agree the soundtrack is AWESOME, and I enjoy it so much none of the things that bother you bothered me at all.

Another big problem is the final fight. it feels very anti climatic. One thing that could have been improved is if starfire actually helped to defeat the villain.

Perhaps this movie could have just been season 6 with 13 episodes to finish the story.

You forgot to mention that they made this as an ending to the series which it's not. This whole movie felt like someone fan fiction come to life with the only real tie in with the show being Robin and Starfire's relationship. The series Did not END it was Canceled and left on a cliff hanger.

I found it was okay. As you stated I rather like the music and especially the end credits were each of the characters sang part of the theme song. The humor was okay at best and just unfunny the rest the time which sadly was most of the time. I didn’t love this but I did have a good time with it. I really did like Robin and start fires relationship. Especially Robin’s view of what it meant to be a hero. The villain was serviceable and his side villains look cool. But again the other fights were too comedic at times and the other characters could have been used better.

It's an alright way to spend a couple hours but beyond Robin and Starfire finally becoming a thing nothing felt like anything of not or interest happened. I found Trouble in Tokyo quite disappointing to be honset. It doesn't resolve any unanswered plotlines other than Robin and Starfire's Relationship, the plot was filler and it doesn't feel like a grand finale like say Hey Arnold: The Jungle Movie does. The music is awesome though.

Robin not having fun and focused more on being a hero is like he’s gone full Batman mode, and cyborg and BB not getting enough screen time. I wouldn't be surprised if the ink was originally meant to more closely resemble blood and they were told to change it by the network or censor.
