You don't need fancy tech on your truck, other than reliable one. That how most truck manufacturers put in some useless and unnecessary tech to drive up the truck price just for squeeze extra profit from buyers. There nothing wrong to be basic. Anyway pretty honest and straightforward review. T

Got my new SV crew cab here in PA in late April last year, 2600 miles so far. Absolutely awesome so far….love it. Towed my Road King in my enclosed 10’ trailer out to Pittsburgh for a weekend last summer, truck didn’t break a sweat. That’s one of the reasons I bought it. My ‘09 Acadia would have to pull over and cool down the trans on hot days. No issues with the Nissan. Not yet any way!

I just sold my 2005 D40 Frontier SE Crew Cab V6 6MT 2WD this past Wednesday. For the first-year of the model cycle, it was fantastically reliable -- the most durable midsize pick-up workhorse I've ever owned. It never, ever let me down. The VQ40DE still quietly purred before selling it to a former Tacoma owner. That was a selling point for him. He was surprised at the rear disc brakes, as he hated working on his Taco's rear drum brakes. Sadly, his Tacoma blew a head gasket two days prior to him buying my Fronty. He texted me yesterday raving about how he loves breaking the rear end loose in 1st and 2nd gears!!! He's definitely enjoying the ride! Long live the Frontier!!!

Great review Jake!!! The Frontier takes a page from the sales-leading Tacoma and betters it with a rugged FULLY-BOXED FRAME, rear DISC BRAKES, an ALL-STEEL BED and more HORSEPOWER/TORQUE -- instead of the Tacoma's FLEXY OPEN C-CHANNEL frame, rear DRUM BRAKES and cheaper, weaker and crack-prone PLASTIC/FIBERGLASS composite bed (the latter which requires replacement as a whole when damaged).

@@trevorharley4475 That's awesome! There's a lot to love about the D41 Fronty, including that wicked 7,000 RPM redline from the revised VQ38 engine!!! 😈 Long live the VQ! Had mine just about a month, got the Pro4X. I'm very happy with it. Really lucky getting mine. Went to order it expecingt 4 to 6 months before I get it. As I ordered it the salesperson stopped, excused himself, and came back a few minutes later telling me that they have one, exactly like the one I was ordering, currently on order for their inventory. I could reserve it for $500.00. I put down $2000.00. To my surprise, that weekend the salesman called and said my new truck was in. I went in Monday, and picked it up. I would like to get better tires for off road, but other than that. I'm happy. My Pro4X has Andriod audio. It literally takes over the functions of the phone. I'm okay with that.

My '23 does have a lane departure warning but no lane departure keep. It warns you with a vibrating steering wheels, it does NOT try and pull you back into the lane like my GMC will do. Noisy engine? I use my 2022 to tow my 18ft dove tail car hauler and race car. It does the job no problems. Two things I don't like are the adaptive cruise control and the nanny tech package. I turn off what I could. The back up sensor should go off per press and run instead of when you shift into reverse. You can guess how annoying it is to maneuver a trailer with it beeping. In summary, the truck part is good, the tech part is not good. Recommended upgrades:bars/running boards, floor liners, bed cover.

If you think the 2022 model is great, the 2024 SV is quite capable. I snagged one off the lot and day 1 took it off roading with the factory SV tires. Sunk it to just below the headlights on accident and it climbed out of the “puddle” in 4 Lo as if I were driving up my driveway. Then I took it through sand so loose that if you low crawled you’d create a trench and it maintained course and traction no problem. Also in 4 Lo but again with factory SV tires not rated for off-road play. I can’t get over how exceptionally a factory 4x4 with no off-road amenities can perform so well. I’m almost glad I didn’t get the pro 4x because now I can customize the truck to MY needs off road and save a few bucks doing so. If you’re new to trucks like I am, those shocks on the pro 4x, useless if you put on a 2 inch lift due to sizing issues. What else do you get with the pro 4x? A 360 camera, skid plate, locking rear differential. My wife is my 360 camera, my wife won’t let me scrape bottom so no need for the skid plate, and actual off-road tires with grip can help fill the gap of not having a locking rear differential. I wouldn’t trade this in for a Tacoma TRD if Toyota paid me.

Not a fiberglass bed it's a composite bed that's as strong as steel and doesn't rust and is lighter (look up the youtube videos on this), drums brakes in the back that go 150k miles before replacing and it stops better than the frontier and other sedans, half the frame is boxed and rear is c- channel but it outperforms the new frontier (videos on youtube) and other trucks offroad due to more flex and better articulation (and doesn't rust, that's some old ass news and every truck manufacturer has had frame problems) and just because it has less horsepower doesn't mean that nissan has anywhere near the reliability of a Tacoma engine (fact), and the Tacoma has a dual injection (port/direct) that'll stop it from carbing up that's inevitable for that nissan, also has a resale that the frontier can only dream about, a million times more after market support for mods and addons.

@@Boltdriver70 As much as you may believe Toyota's product promotion materials about the cheaper-to-produce plastic fiberglass bed being as strong as steel, it isn't. I've seen for myself a number of cracked Tacoma beds -- not only online, but even at my local Toyota dealership as well. (I have two friends who were former Toyota dealership master mechanics and one currently at Lexus). Like leaving plastics in the sun, the 2nd & 3rd generation Tacoma bed will deteriorate over time, thus weakening its ability to withstand blunt forces such as a Skilsaw blade or a pile of bricks being thrown into the bed. As for the inferior, cheaper drum brakes, your argument is just silly, but not unexpected from Toyota apologists. No company in the US (except maybe Tesla) touches Toyota when it comes to maximum profitability. Using cheaper components -- including the cheaper grade steel for the rusty frames that have been a subject of numerous recalls for two generations of Tacomas, the 4-Runner and Tundra -- exemplifies Toyota's mastery at extreme cost-cutting.

I owned one of the 2022s and I will say the lack of lumbar support in the drivers seat was a huge killer for me if you have any kind of back problems at all the seats are not comfortable for extensive driving. Nissan calls them “zero gravity seats” but I found these seats actually put you in a clam shell seating position you’re driving kind of hunched over. Also the paint chipped off my hood fairly easy only after a couple of thousand miles. I was getting average 17 to 19 MPG city it is a direct injected engine it is powerful and has tons of low torque. I’m a big fan of hydraulic steering but to be honest if you do a lot of city driving you’re gonna notice the heaviness and rigidity of the steering and definitely get a nice little arm workout. Also with the Apple CarPlay anytime I will get an iOS update from Apple I would then have problems until Nissan would send an update to the vehicle this happened several times. All in all it’s a nice vehicle for the price but I did up trading it in for a ridgeline which I’m much happier with. If you’re thinking about one of these I encourage you to maybe rent one or borrow one from a friend before you make that decision there are some shortcomings Nissan already has a recall out on the transmission and has temporarily stopped selling them.

❤ I have a 2022 Nissan frontier crew cab I’m 6 foot two and it seems to me like the hood does not open far enough and I have 30,000 miles on my truck and I have to replace the hood struts under warranty I do have an appointment for the transmission parking lock to be replaced under manufactures warranty. My trucks been modified like no other don’t get me wrong. I’m not bragging but I have a 200 psi air compressor system on board my truck it’s a shame I can’t post pictures here but anybody that sees within the Tool Box of My Truck with impressed and beyond their imagination I spent about $3300 of equipment that’s in the toolbox in the bed of my truck. ❤ I have air horns in the grill of my truck which you cannot see unless you’re really looking deep into the radiator area and they are extremely loud to wake people up that are doing stupid crap on the freeway like texting on the phone. I have an air pressure gauge inside of the cab of my truck tomorrow to the air pressure in the tank as well as monitoring the air pressure that’s going to the air horns. I have super bright LED brake lights underneath the bed besides the ones that came with the truck. I can light up the face of anybody behind me like a Christmas tree when I step on my breaks ❤ I have superbright LED lights in the grill in front of my airhorns that make sure everybody knows that I’m getting ready to make a turn to the left or the right there’s no mistaking as to whether I’m going to hit my brakes or make a turn. I do like the truck when it comes to changing the oil it’s really easy I like the dash monitoring system where I can program it to remind me at a certain number of miles that it’s time for me to change my oil I get to choose how many miles before I change my oil. I do like the dash as far as it giving me control and ability to monitor the service on my truck. I get to choose what I wanted to tell me not some kind of program. ❤❤ I’m thinking about putting air shocks on the truck that will be tapped into my air compressor system that’s in the bed of my toolbox and I will be able to increase or decrease the pressure to my air shocks from inside of the cab of my truck. I just recently ordered a digital air pressure gauge that will monitor the air pressure in the tank as well as monitoring the air pressure. That’s being released to the air horns that will be very nice. I would love to know where I could get some decent flat runningboards from the front to the back I don’t like the tube type of runningboards

Just received a recall notice in the mail. My 2022 Frontier can roll away in park, due to an issue with the parking pawl. Nissan is telling customers to use the manual parking brake when parking the truck. They are working on a remedy due sometime in the Fall of 2022. Glad I leased mine…😂

Agree about DI, but it’s the lesser of the two evils…I definitely do not want a fourbanger with turbo 🤮 DI has been around for a while and there is just more maintenance involved to keep it running, but I’m ok with that.

@@dalephillips8250 DI motors hv been around for a while now. BMW, Minis, Hyundais, etc. Have a neighbor with an older BMW (5 series I think) w DI. He purchased it used with 80k. He had the valves cleaned chemically upon purchase. He just uses better oil and does more frequent oil changes. He also does the CRC cleaner through the intake before his oil changes as preventative. He’s only put about 25k since purchase, and still enjoys it and it’s performance. That’s really the only area one has to monitor more w DI, otherwise it’s basically the same. I would think the more frequent oil changes would benefit the entire engine as well, so I don’t see the engine life degrading sooner than with a port injected one. The port one acts like a constant cleaner of the valves. So if you just do the maintenance and monitor the valves you should have a long lasting motor as well. 👍 Of course u can also add the “catch can” that supposedly helps, but I personally think that adds restriction to the air venting out and going in. But everyone has their opinions on that topic as well. 😉😁

@@SA-hk8xj thanks for the info....just seems like an extra expense to keep it from caking on the valves. I wonder how much that cleaning cost him but 80K is not a lot of milles for a good engine. I still may take a chance on it but would like to be able to keep the valves clean without the help of a dealership or so called professional.

Stop acting like all truck buyers are the same! I've owned trucks for decades and I love the creature comforts. Trucks obviously aren't just utility vehicles anymore. Most people buy them as their daily driver and family hauler, so of course they want the features that you claim no truck buyer cares about. I hate reviews where they try to project their personal values onto the viewer.

The truck does not compete with a Maveric, it is Eqv to the Ford Ranger. the Mav is a toy compared to this truck, USB - C is what everybody is moving to because the EU mandated it for all the Cell Phones sold there, so all Cell phone makers, incl Apple, have to move to it. they won't make 2 diff phones for US and EU market, that's why it's showing up everywhere.

They are estimating it's on .03% of trucks sold with the transmission, yes it is an issue, but not a large one, mine is fine, and you should ALWAYS use the parking break while parking, manual or automatic, flat or incline, this should be taught in every driving school. Trusting the weight of any vehicle to a transmission component both puts excess wear on that component and risks the lives you, and other people around your vehicle if that component fails.

What about the longevity of the new Direct Injection engine? This is the only "X" factor that I'm fighting with on this truck. Any examples of high mileage ones or any other high mileage Direct Injection vehicles?
@Falinzin
@Falinzin 2 жыл бұрын
So, about DI, carbonization is usually a problem with your PCV and/or EGR systems. If you don't do a lot of highway driving, blow-by will slowly contaminate your engine oil, which leads to oily/sooty deposits in the inlet tract, which the then EGR bakes on. Lean highway driving purifies the engine oil and prevents those deposits from forming, and sustained full operating temperature driving evaporates off the water and volatile compounds found in unburned fuel, which exit via the PCV. If you do a lot of cold starts, don't warm your car up in the winter before driving, and do a lot of short trips you are more likely to run into issues with direct injection. I have had several direct injection vehicles and have never had an issue because I have a 45 minute highway commute to work. If you DO do a lot of short trips around town, use higher quality oil and routinely change it, you'll likely be fine. The few people I know who have had issues with DI engine carburization are the ones that ignore oil changes for thousands of miles past their due dates, or mostly use them for short hops around the city. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i7qoosub2pbWpKs.html - This guy gives an EXCELLENT explanation on it.
