Due to a medical issue, I had to go as light and as small as possible. I bought one 1X10 cab from Talk Bass almost new and another one new from Sweetwater. I plugged my Genz Benz Shuttle 6.2 into the two cabs. I was stunned at how loud it was and how much lows and mids there were. I'm sure the rear port helps. 16 pounds for each cab. The Shuttle has 375 watts at 8 ohms at 600 watts at 4 ohms, perfect for these two cabs. Can't wait for rehearsal and our next gig.

The Elf sounds pretty good, especially with the Spector. I recognized the Alembic T-shirt, I had one back in the day, best basses around!

I need a lighter combo amp and am seriously considering the ELF 1x10 with its 16 Lb weight. I'm pretty impressed with the sound of this video! Cool Alembic shirt!!!

Hands down the Trace Elliot outperformed the Markbass, Gallien Krueger, Fender, Ampeg, and many others. When you see a Trace Elliot, yes it's expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Are you sacrificing any low end in going for such a small cabinet size

Well certainly there is only so much that a single ten-inch speaker can accomplish and no matter how good the technology is, you can't rewrite physics. But it does perform very well and I have seen videos on KZfaq of guys demoing this combo with a live drummer so that gives you an idea of what it can do. In a live setting, you would want to have the extra cabinet for dispersal of sound but if you have PA reinforcement and monitoring, you may not need it. Horses for courses!

How is the fan noise ? On some of the bass forums there saying its kind of loud ? thanks .

Never had a problem with fan noise on my model, certainly wouldn't hear it on a gig but when I've used it at home, no issues. Thanks for the comment!

Cheers for the comment. That's my own 2008 Euro 4LX. Changed the plastic controls for the gold ones when I got it, to go with the bridge & machineheads. Always preferred metal controls over plastic.

@@andrewmckenzie956 Thank you. I did buy them in 2008 so I can't remember where I got them from online. They have a grub screw on the side of each one to secure attachment.

I liked the review 👍 But.. the ELF?? Although it has the Trace badge (I'm old skool TE), this sounds just like all the other class D amps I've owned (TC and Phil Jones). And that's disappointing. We move on...

Thank you for the comment. Trace is now a brand name. Anyone hankering for the glory days will be sadly disappointed but that's the way things are. I've done plenty of large-ish gigs with an ELF and an EBS Neo 2x12 so it's loud enough to gig with.

I recently bought one of these to replace a Markbass 801 (even tinier than this). The MB is less powerful, but a much cleaner sound than this. I also use my bass teacher’s Markbass Marcus Miller when I go there. Again much cleaner sound than the TE. The Elf sounds muddy and woolly to me and the gain isn’t a gradual “gain”. Move it slightly from zero and it kicks in suddenly at a pretty high level. Overall the Elf sounds overcooked, even at low volume. So I’m wondering if there’s something wrong. Anyone else experienced this?

Actually it was a mix of the DI and an AKG mic on the cabinet, both run into an Allen & Heath mixer, then USB-ed across into my mixing software. I can get the mic model if you want it.
