I found this Territory on marketplace, after looking for one for almost a year. FYI: I was also looking at SYII Territories, but I was mostly hanging out for an SZ because I wanted the updated interior. There are always bargains to be had on marketplace if you look often and get in quick!

That is a nice come up… looks mint. They stopped the Territory and gave us Everest which was worse in most regards. Maintenance is everything, people complain about bushes when more than one has already failed, and in the process puts more wear on the rest. Transmissions are just like any other and just need the right fluid and known issues are easily fixed now.

Congrats on your purchase, I used to have the 2013 diesel Territory, went halfway round Australia, without an once of trouble, and it barely used a drop of oil, I got rid of it a few years ago, and now I just purchased a 2016 TS model diesel AWD, just under 170,000 klms, and I'm over the moon with it, it's condition inside and out, is in top condition, it was a 7 seater, but soon changed it to a 5 seater, it gives one more room, where that back seat would stow away into, installed a throttle controller on to it, gives great performance in sports mode, and mind you, I used to own a worked BF F6, it doesn't go like an F6, but I'm very happy with it.. I put on a new set of 255/55/18 Winrun tyres, mainly because I don't want to destroy my rims, The guy I brought it from had it advertised for $15,000, I offered $12,000, which he happily accepted, being an AWD, I felt it was a good deal, I also had been searching for some time, as soon as I found this, I jumped on it, people shouldn't listen to others, and their negative comments about these cars, half of them don't know what they're on about, look after the car, and it will look after you..🙂🙂🙂

Hi Shaun, long time watcher, glad to have you back! Congratulations on your Territory purchase. We have owned our SY1 with ZF for over 8 years and it was 10 years old when we bought it. We love it, it had 150000kms when we bought it and just clocked over 264000 to date. It has had preventative maintenance, transmission heat exchanger bypass and fluid and filter replaced twice and an update to the better SY2 front control arms and lots of bushes renewed. And many of the plastics are rubbish. But on the whole, it is a pleasure to drive everyday. I love ours with its 'eucalypt' cloth interior, the many storage bins for useful family paraphernalia. Effortless performance, sublime handling, compliant ride over awful Aussie B roads. You can drive 10hrs in it and get to your destination and feel ready to do it again. My wife loves how easy it is to park and the two piece tailgate. And it was a dream with child seats and backseat passengers. I love how it handles on fun twisty roads. Ours is AWD so gives plenty of confidence on slippery surfaces if losing a touch of your's steering purity. The Tezza will require more from you than your Jazz, but it will give you back so much more in daily satisfaction. All the best mate. :-)

Good move avoiding the AWD diesel. Looking forward to the ownership report in a few months. As a 2008 SY owner with 300k clicks I can give you a handy list of all the things to look out for (most similar to the Falcons). Otherwise, looks like a good buy and with the right care will be bulletproof with the Barra!

And while I'm at it, I have cloth seats as well and I'm astonished at how well they have lasted. Not sure who supplied the fabric to Ford back in the day but after 15 years (and 3 kids) there is still not a single stitch out of place and the occasional wet vacuum makes them come up like new. I've seen many newer vehicles (Mitsubishi, Isuzu and even the odd Toyota!) where the foam is spilling from the bolsters in less than 100,000kms.

I've owned jazzes. My parents have, my sister and brother have too. My last one, an 03 1.5 had 400 thousand on it when I sold it. Never used any oil, water and never leaked any. Drove great. Was fun and bullshit reliable. Wheel bearings can get noisy, the roof can leak above the hatch causing rust in the wheel well. That's about it. Love them!!!❤❤

So great to see you in a Territory! There are currently 4 of them in our family fleet and they've all served us well. We spent about 4 months looking for a petrol SZ MkII Titanium for my partner, so I support the petrol-over-diesel choice and understand how hard they can be to find. Whilst the diesel has its place, too many people bought them for the school run and stop-start driving which leads to EGR valve issues among other things - they also had the inferior 6R80 gearbox. People love to call Territorys unreliable but I haven't found them to be all that bad - the extra heft doesn't do the Falcon-grade suspension components any favours, but aside from that it's all pretty trivial. The ZF is a great gearbox if maintained - my SY AWD needed a replacement box at 294,000km but I'm unsure of its maintenance history earlier in life. I would highly recommend replacing or bypassing the factory heat exchanger if it has not been done already; these are known to fail and allow coolant to mix with transmission fluid, which will ruin the gearbox. The TS is a great spec choice if you don't want leather; you still get the nicer ICC with dual-zone climate and reverse camera, and there are a few bits you can add from a Titanium if you feel so inclined - e.g. the TS has a wiring plug for the auto-dimming mirror tucked up above the headliner, so that's a super easy upgrade to do and well worth the minimal effort. I even have a spare mirror I can send you - an SY MkII Ghia, FG G6E or SZ Titanium one should be a straight swap, and will take about 45 seconds as it's just a Torx screw holding it in place. Hope the new car treats you well, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Well at least you'll have common parts & consumables for it Sean. I've seen Territorys in only 2 conditions: shitboxes & good examples. Looks like the one you have, has been looked after. If you're going to do any videos on it, do a major upgrade to the stereo system. There are kits out there & they are expensive but worth it. It's worth it doing a video on that. I'm sure the missus will appreciate it.

It's otherwise been amazing for our family of 4, though we have a base model (not a TS) so missed out on all the nice features like the touchscreen. Awesome choice IMO. I think you’ll love it. We purchased an ex dealer demo in 2011, a 2010 SY MK2 AWD Ghia 7 seater. Loved that car great for the family holidays but was mostly the wife’s daily. Travelled from where we live to FNQ several times via the coast and inland highways and south for a lap of Tassie. Never missed a beat bar a faulty ABS sensor on the rear passenger wheel after the Tassie trip. Of course a car is only ever as good as it is treated. Regularly garaged and serviced. It was like new to the very end when my daughter who learned to drive in it and then on her P’s had an unfortunate accident in it earlier this year. Very minor and not her fault. Very repairable and we were able to continue driving it daily until NRMA finally was able to assess it. Short story but they wrote it off due to the age of the car not the damage. I could have challenged them and many times wished I did. Aside from regular maintenance the only things I did to it was window tint, rust protection and a DBA disc upgrade after the 5th year of ownership which wasn’t really necessary but given we were loading her up more and more each holiday I just preferred to. Now the Daughter has a 2018 Escape and the Wife bought a Jeep, I still catch myself thinking checking out what Territory’s are on offer and thinking they are great cars, I’d be very happy to get another. Hope you enjoy a trouble free ownership and as many happy memories with it as we had.

Nice upgrade from the Jazz. I know exactly how you feel with cloth vs leather. Oh, and with the ZF, you hear too many bad stories, but never any good ones. I’m coming up to 360k on my FG that I’ve has since new. It’s only now starting to slip & clunk from 1-2 when cold. Our best friends got a nice SY2 nearly 4 years back. It has the ZF and only about 100k on it. Still drives as nice as I remember my FG did when it was new. You’ll probably get used to the adaptive shift learning over time. I don’t like SUVs but a Terri is one I’d own if I had to.

@commodorenut
@commodorenut 6 ай бұрын
@@kierenalvarez The point I was making was that you never hear about ZFs that do go the distance (like mine, and many of my friends and colleagues) but only those who have had one fail and who complain about it relentlessly. BTW, mine hasn't been babied either - over 30,000km towing a loaded car trailer interstate 2-3 times/year (across 4 states of Oz) as well as probably another 30,000km doing regular interstate trips with 4 passengers and a box trailer loaded with a tonne. Yes the later petrol I6s got the "chinese ZF" but these have also proven themselves to last. Oh, I carry nearly 200kg worth of tools, parts, and fridge in my FG, so I'm not far off the Territory's tare weight. I would have a ZF over a CVT any day of the week, and I also prefer it to the 6L80 in my Calais-V.

Plus I repalced at least 3 wheel bearings, 5 engine mounts, and it had unreliable electrics (for some inexplicable reason my passenger side driver mirror don't work). Shaun I appreciate the car situation. My wife also has a condition that makes it harder for her to get into a lower car, hence we're looking at offloading the Fairmont. The Terri has popped up on our radar, and size wise it's perfect. She can get in and out easily, the boot is big enough for her walker, and coming from a Fairmont, we know most of the potential issues etc. The problem is, they seem to be asking for a premium, even the NA Barra based ones, especially for a late model SY or SZ, with under 200k km. Our budget is only about $10k.

Mate, I bought a 2007 Territory AWD Barra powered SY model. The previous owner to me (a work colleague of mine) didn't really look after it too much in the later part of his ownership. What I can tell you, is that he was the first owner of the vehicle making me the 2nd owner. It was pretty rough. All bushes in the front end were totally buggered (including the 3 front diff bushes and rear diff bushes), ball joints were had it and had a huge transmission leak (ZF 6 speed with transfer case). I removed the gearbox and found the leak which was around the pump seal in the bellhousing. I bought the vehicle for 3 grand, and spent about 4 grand on it in parts doing all the work myself. The best part about it is the fact that I have cleaned up everything myself so I know that we have an absolutely rock solid vehicle now to drive. It also helps to have a hoist here at home too, so that has made things super easy. My F6 hardly leaves the driveway now, and our Territory is the car of choice every time. But I say you have made a great choice in vehicle. Keep up the servicing, and attend to knocks and noises under the car/through the floor straight away, and you will have no issues.

I haven't had any problems with my Territory Ghia SY2, except relacing all the bushes, but I did put an air cooler on the ZF to make sure there wasn't any chance of milkshake. All SY2's were either AWD with ZF, or RWD with the BTR 4 speed. Fuel economy is still good enough in the AWD. I bought the car in 2018 with 130000km, now very close to hitting 300000km. Still a great car that we as a family of 5 take everywhere we go. Cheers.

Replace the transmission cooler mate, they split and get milk shake, transmission oil in coolant, coolant end's up in your auto.

I've given up, Shaun. Pre covid, i was quoted 5-6k for a closed door respray. Now, due to what i refer to as an inflated common cold, that quote has since doubled. Im at the point where now have learned to live with my 27 year old Panther mica paint and it's Patina.

I've decided for the entry price you can't really beat them, but you'll pay later on fuel and maintenance. I think if you love it or love Aussie cars in general, it'll be worth it.

Do the heat exchanger on the transmission and service. Yes they do need to be serviced. No transmission oil will last for ever. Lol. Nice car fantastic engine and good choice.

I’ve also got a 2005 sx ford territory I’m trying to get on the road, the engine is quiet and your knees will feel better when you’re driving long distances on the highways, seats are comfy, I can’t tell you how much performance wise in detail as I’ve left a few things at so that roadworthy mechanics have something to pick on me about, I’ll tell you more about the performance as soon as I get it on the road, for a territory at 252k it sounds very healthy for its age

Gotta hand it to the Jazz - my elderly Aunt and Uncle had a horrible accident in theirs (I think it was a 2013 model? They bought it new when they retired anyway) last year - the car was utterly destroyed, but they escaped with only minor injuries - all the safety features worked perfectly even though the car was maybe 9 or 10 years old. Recon you should give the Magna paint job a crack - great way to learn! My G6E-T had 230,000km on the clock and the ZF-6 was still perfect when it got written off in an accident - I changed the fluid every 60,000km and the strainer every 120,000km though.

It would be interesting to see a future report of the Territory some time in the feature to see what they are like to live with overtime. Also It looks pretty clean for it's age so hopefully it was a good buy for you.

Congratulations on the new ride! I bought a 2013 SZ Titanium almost exactly 2 years ago. My decisions mirrored everything you just said exactly. Our fuel consumption is also in the mid-12's. That's on E10. I'm an E10 convert! E10 is not poor-man's 91, it's poor-man's 95/98... ;) There's a place in Ipswich that's awesome for hood linings. (walking distance to the rail-works museum) Highly recommend doing the black conversion. Looks SOOOO much better. Hope it treats you well! As you're doing your own maintenance you'll be very happy it's not an AWD...

Keep the magna for sure. Anyone mentioned rust yet with the territory. Owned an earlier one and rust was a big issue in general. Check under the rubber seal around the hatch. Was a nice driving vehicle that's for sure.

10:00 windscreen wiper paint peel, yep I have aa 23 year old Mitsubishi Magna and have repainted the wipers twice, in 2011 and 2022 using acrylic lacquer paint. It never faded but it peeled so I sanded it back heavily almost to bare metal and used a proper primer and 5 coats of black.

Awesome happy to see you have a Territory, I own a 2012 SZ petrol it is a great car drives well with lots of boot space iv had mine for 3 years now Feb 2020, got mine from a dealer 130km for 15k, the log book had 2 years of no service so I took the risk and well I got unlucky 1 year and half later i had a bottom end bearing in the engine start ticking away, 8k for a engine rebuild and reconditioned new timing chain spark plugs thermostat all fluids change including diff oil, and a aftermarket transmission cooler to avoid any future milkshake I'm very happy with the car now it's like new, oh and I own a 2009 FG XR6 Turbo aswell.

As much as I don't like large cars, or that brand, was a passenger in a Terrycon on a long journey recently, and it was one of the most comfortable contraptions to be transported around in. Also, someones going to get a Japanese built Jazz/Fit too, so that's an awesome opportunity for someone else.

Ditch the Magna, keep the AU. At least the AU there are bulks parts & cars available, Magna not so much. Check the Cam Phaser (VCT) seals, as they can leak bad in the FG series Barra, in turn leaking into Cyl 1 spark plug well/ shorting the coil out

I absolutely loved my Jazz - the 1.5L manuals were absolute corkers and I loved driving it. Was also amazing in terms of reliability as you mentioned, but it was way better and more fun than I expected. Might be that the manual made it that much more engaging, though.
