Something I will say... spending 20k fixing this car up has made me respect and love it 1000% more, compared to how I'd feel about just buying it like this for 20k. I'm hugely attached to it and really proud of the transformation. Zinger for your thoughts👍 Also it appears I forgot to factor in the cost of my brake upgrade. That was another $763.95 😅

It's a very impressive rebuild Sean. For me, just need to get the front lip spoiler. I know you don't want to, but it looks amazing with it. Definitely don't have it on all the time, just for show as it will scrap area's not designed for low clearance. Just look at pictures on Google with it equipped, I guarantee you will fall in love with it🥰🤩💖

Well done, it's a great car now, and even if you won't get your money back if you sold...keep it and enjoy it for a few years, and the values are only gonna go one way. Anyway, even at circa $20k, it's stil cheaper than any other Aussie made sports sedan you could get, and just as enjoyabe to drive than a lot of the alternatives. You are an inspiration to novice car restoer's (I now own a '93 NC Fairlane Sportsman Ghia thanks to you) everywhere. Keep up the great work. Cheers!

I'm in the middle of getting my car restored, and while it's not been without it's struggles. Sleepless nights and tricky decisions, saving my old car means more than whatever the value is. If mine can look half as good as yours when it's done, I'll be happy with that for sure 👍 Glad to see the Mitsubishi back from the brink, and hope you can now just enjoy it.

I searched for how many were made: According to the search results, the Mitsubishi Magna Ralliart was a special model produced in limited numbers in 2002. The search results state that "500 individually numbered Ralliart models had been planned", but due to budget constraints, the final production number was lower than originally planned. However, the exact number of Magna Ralliart cars sold is not provided in the search results. The Magna Ralliart was only produced in 2002 as a special, limited edition model.

30 of these Ralliart Magna's came Supercharged (Sprintex) too though, they had almost 250kw. But also, 5 of them had different cam's & compression ratio that boosted power to 210kw as a NA.

@@dangernoodle4305 the term bland in my opinion is a type of vehicle that is so common that it just looks like every other car on the road, Holden Ford and Valiant were very bland everyday common vehicle's and so were Magna and Magna ralliart. The difference is fast forward a few decades and all of those car's are very rarely seen today on Australian roads which makes it interesting or for some exiting to see. 20k by today's standards isn't a great deal of money especially when compared with six figure amounts often spent on restoration, i agree it's worth it.

@billhatz3773 I understand where you are coming from, and I would still take my Audi over many cars. But you are right, in a sea of 5 year old cars, there is something magic about this rarer vehicles. Having said that, many Australian cars from the 90s, 00s still don't excite me even though many of them have gone missing, but rare nuggets like this do. I couldn't give a toss about an underpowered V8 from Holden/Ford. This is cooler in my book.

@@dangernoodle4305 The Ralliart Magna's had exceptional handling capabilities on release in manual model's. The Ralliart Magna won the Australian Motorkhana on release for example. 30 of them came supercharged & had 250kw. 5 came with wilder cams & compression ratio that boosted power to 210kw at the flywheel - I get the feeling that Autospeed tested one of these 210kw car's because they did a drag race against a STI & the Ralliart Magna thrashed it according to them. The did a whole article on it.

Great video Sean. At the monthly car show I go to, people think it's cheap to restore a classic car. You'll find these so-called experts scrutinizing your car & pick on the most tiniest of things. You'll get this yourself when you show off the Ralliart & some of these comments can hurt. I restored my '03 Holden VY Series I S Ute 3.8L on a bet 10 years ago & the budget was $10K including the price of the Ute. I bought the ute for $1800. The body was a bit tired but the mechanicals were well looked after. Everything I bought was brand new from Holden except the hard lid, seats & the leather steering wheel. I got great prices for replacement trim & parts from my local Holden dealer at trade prices. I OEM+ the ute. The cigarette pack back in the day was a $695 option & I picked it up from Holden for $55. I converted it for USB use. The bodywork I did myself & the undercoat & paint was done by a friend of mine. All up It cost me a tiny fraction over $10K (I still won the bet!) & my ute now is still a showroom ute that turns heads. I wasn't after the garage queen look but a solid daily driver which I still use. The nasty comments I get from the so-called experts at car shows is that "It's not a V8". I usually tell them to go restore their own car first before making any comments. I'm still in the throes of restoring my '03 Holden Series I S Ute with the factory optioned LS1. Parts & trim are scarce now but I'm still getting there. Sean at the end of the day I know you're happy with the Ralliart & you'll keep it for a good long while. Take it to car shows as it's rare. You'll get some good comments for it but beware of the so-called experts. It's these people who know nothing about cars that'll put you down but you'll ignore them. Personally, I think you've done well with the Ralliart getting it up to scratch. It wont be long before you have it on historic plates.

With how good the car looks and drives now and the amount of time and money you've put into it I wouldn't be surprised if you managed to get around 15 grand for it and honestly if you enjoyed it for a few months or even years, put a few kilometres on it and then decided to flog it you'd be getting a good chunk back, which I personally think is a win so if you ever feel dejected about how much this or any of your cars have cost you, don't, as long as you love your cars that's all that matters, you can't put a price on a car that makes you smile whenever you drive or look at it.

Unfortunately I agree with you that you have probably spent more than it is worth. However, it appears to be one of those cars with character and dare I say even a little bot of soul. You have brought back a Aussie car with some style that I suspect will provide you with years of reliable and critically enjoyable driving. I would also say that the Magna is a bit less serious than your Falcon and will be perfect as a fun reliable daily that is not boring, is not the same as every other car in the carpark and which will bring a cheeky smile to your face each time you drive it. So despite potentially being worth less than you spent I don't think you have wasted a any money on your restoration and you have brought back a cool car and you have maintained some Australian motoring heritage. So on that basis it's a bargain.

As for resale values, it's uncertain as you are a famous KZfaqr - maybe you will get more for it possibly like 15k. But think you would require a front lip spoiler in order to get a higher value. It sound's like you still have thing's you are doing with it too. Plus I'm not certain what modifications you were planning. But you haven't had a car that you have Supercharged yet, think this is the best approach for this car as their is no lag & it wouldn't compromise on the razor sharp throttle response & shift feel. I recommend upgrading to 18inch tyres & matching wheel's if you do modify the car to give it huge power like this Sean, because they are cheap & provide more grip that you'll be wanting.

My Austin Cambridge cost me $5,000 and I may not have spent $20,000 on it but it would be quite a lot if it was all added up. I don't care though because I have had a brilliant learning experience doing it up and every time I look at it I pat myself on the back. You may have had hurdles along the way but it's worth it in the end. So glad you really like it and it sounds great into the bargain. It's only money! Hahahaha

I’ve noticed in the last few years spares etc. have rally gone up in price. Freight too has gone up a lot. The classic car market/hobby is booming ATM and I think a lot of suppliers are cashing in. But…..there are not a lot of options.

I off loaded my car after I decided it wasn't worth spending the $20K to restore it....I ended up buying a new car for my wife and with the $20K restoration money I took her for an 8 week holiday to Europe instead. ;) But I do appreciate the effort and time and money that goes into building a car....yours is a keeper.

Hi Sean. I came upon your channel looking at BA content. I have a BA MK2 Futura with the green-top Barra. A couple of small rust spots, about 280,000 kays, but very well looked after mechanically and everything works and drives very well. Before I purchased it, it had front brakes and rotors, front wheel bearings done, new coil packs and plugs and a new gas converter. Paid $1200. Tell me what you think of the gas Barra motors. Anyway, if one has the attitude of “I spent $20,000 on the car so I’ll sell it for $24000 to get my money back” then one is in for the shock of their lives. You’ve spent that money to clearly enjoy the car as it’s supposed to be enjoyed. Some prices that people ask for cars on Marketplace and Carsales seems to indicate that they’re trying to recoup every single cent that they spent on the car, including registration, insurance and regular maintenance. You’re clearly NOT one of them. I’ve subscribed as your channel is excellent viewing. Keep up the good work.

Sean great job on the Magna 20 k is very reasonable since it is now nearly a new car Painting like you say is the biggest problem if yo cannot do it yourself I have an old ef falcon that I have had fro7 years spent over 5000 and still so much to do My budget I set was ten but I can paint it myself, I have just sold it for 3000 as I have come to. Conclusion I don’t have the spare time to finish it which makes me quite sad 😢 I say old on you for fixing the Magna they were and still are such a very good car 👍👍👍

No sane person goes in to a restoration project like this & expects to make a profit at the end. You usually do it for the experience & the joy of the finished product, if you ever get there. And a big congratulations for getting this project finished, a lot of people get nowhere near this far in a project before abandoning it. Realistically you'd have to sell it for around $30k to recoup your costs, including your time & effort in the restoration process. But who can put a price on the joy & sense of accomplishment you get from the end result?

paint is the serial killer when it comes to restos. I got quoted a straight face 12.5k for closed door on a magna worth 3k. Ended up finding an indian guy that quoted 3k. He broke everything he took off and never polished it so ended up giving him 2700. Paint work was surprisingly good overall 🤷‍♂️ Btw great job and really enjoying these vids. You are the proud owner of a ~13- 15k Ralliart id say. Leave the tail lights, suit black 💯 👌

I don’t usually count the cost of the cars I have restored. But….the one I am currently restoring has taken 2 1/2 years, way longer than I imagined. This time I intermised everything, just like you did and yes, I got a shock. If I had known it was going to cost that much I would not have bought it. But…I now have a car I am proud of. You can certainly be proud of the Magna. It looks awesome. I will keep this car for a very long time and you have to be happy with it. I guess you will keep the Magna for a long time too unless someone comes along and makes you an offer you can’t refuse. But…I guess no offer would buy it ATM as you want to enjoy it. Full credit to you Sean.

Paint , panel and all the little things soon add up. There’s a good reason why most guys stop counting. In saying that though some of what you have purchased is basic ongoing maintenance items that you get with all cars. At the end of the day you have a very nice looking car that gives you a bit of enjoyment and it’s better than spending it all at the pub or some over priced coffees at a cafe. Enjoy it and help keep the history alive

That's still cheaper than what I spent doing a turbo conversion on my 2002 Subaru Outback. I did keep some track of my costs but not all of them because, well once it went north of $20k I stopped wanting to know haha. And it hasn't had one dollar spent on bodywork.
