Thankfully KZfaq gives skilled people like yourself a wonderful platform to share valuable skills, often at risk of being lost, so others can learn. Love all 3 channels. I come from a time where everything gets replaced rather than being repaired.... luckily for me my father wasn't so he's taught me how to do certain repairs around the house in the garden he's taught me how to build things etc and I'm very happy he's taught me these skills because you save so much money doing it yourself. I love watching all your videos. I'm actually autistic and when I was younger my mum and dad would hate getting me toys because the first thing I'd do is get the screwdriver out to see how they worked. 🤣 I'd take every screw out and put it back together again I loved it and still do now so these videos interest me so much. Martin you're going to get sick of me commenting on these videos soon because all my comments are always full blown story's. 🤣🤣

Wise words. I have a restoration channel and I often spend a weeks worth of spare time restoring rusty old tools that probably weren't worth saving to most people, but I like bringing stuff back from the dead, I enjoy tinkering, seeing how things work, I always have since I stripped my BMX down and fixed it when I was around 7 years old! I think people are too quick to throw things away nowadays, whether it's electronics or tools or white goods, 99 times out of a hundred they can all be fixed for peanuts. Keep it up, I enjoy watching all your channels and am subbed with all mine :D

You're absolutely right, Martin. I came across your channel by chance about 4 or 5 years ago when I was working on the variator and clutch of my son's 50cc Gilera moped. I ended up searching YT for some advice and I found you working on Jimmy's moped - and your vid was by far the most helpful and informative. I also liked the fact you were using just basic tools and a bit of ingenuity with what you had available. I subscribed to your channel there and then and I've been hooked ever since. Thank you for not being a telly addicted couch potato and for sharing your experiences with us (viewers) Cheers, Mark ;)

Yes Martin “Common sense is being bred out of us" and Jonathan's comment “Common sense isn't common anymore” is oh so true. We seem to be in an era where computer say and people do, and if the computer doesn't tell us what to do we are stumped. We are losing the ability to think for ourselves.

Nice video good instructional. I rebuild old British bikes as a hobby love spending time in the shed. At present I'm restoring an old 1965 Royal Enfield Bullet when I can get the Time. Your right we dont do it for the money as most bikes I've restored would not even pay half the time & money spent I do it for the pleasure and end results. Problem is I still have to work as I work in engineering on the railway so time is limited.

Martin the table you need is a old Hospital bed manual hydraulic foot pump ram. Put a 3/4 ply top. You can usually get them for pennies. Low of 2" high of almost 4". Perfect for your back. I had two in my last garage. I used to put engines and gearboxes on it and lift into some cars as it made the job easy.

I spent a lazy day installing a new video card and taking the opportunity to thoroughly de-dust and clean my PC with me compressor and my blower tool I had the built up detritus from everywhere then got out the Mr Sheen and polished up all the casework then whipped the vid card in to buttoning it all up and lumbering down the hall with it (its a HAF XM by Coolermaster, a mid sized gaming server case and very large). Half an hour later and after moving around a couple USB devices so the keyboards (one big one, one gaming quarterpad) and mouse were running off the USB 3.0's and treated myself to a view of games where the settings are turned to max and super super pleased. Couple of my collections quartz watches had dead batteries so whipped them out and all working nice again, pottered about and been a productive day all round.

I had one of them horns on my blinged up Raleigh Chopper back in the 70's, had grip tassels, a modified moped screen, front dynamo hub, derailer gear set which I got me dad to put on the Sturmley Archer one as the derailer kept spitting the chain. I wanted a set of Jubilee alloy wheels and my uncle wired the rear reflector up with a round tail lamp wired into the dynamo, it was such a cool bike til some toerag nicked it in the early eighties and the racing bike I got that Xmas even with cow horns on and knobbly tyres was never the same as me ol' chopper. Purple and pink it was too, the bike I mean before the dirty minded get the wrong idea... O.o

Hello Martin. I have just watched your video on the Honda Izy. I wondered if you wouldn't mind hopefully helping me with my 2012 Honda Izy it looks exactly the same as yours, I have done a complete service on it as it was over revving from start, it is still running the same, what do you think I could do to lower the revs please. I have watched many of your vids and you have helped me out many times with various mowers, as you say it is a hobby and I also enjoy working on them, and I service friends mowers. Look forward to hearing from you. Shaun

Over revving could be govenor arm incorrectly set, Throttle linkage getting stuck open or an air leak on the intake. The first thing I would check is if the throttle flap in the carb is in the fully open position causing it to rev high. Disconnect the throttle arm from the carb and see if the flap closes.

The auto choke sticking is a common issue with this GCV series engine, you would need to change the thermowax. The new GCVx engines they are fitting to the new Honda mowers and other mowers haven't got this issue as it's a completely new engine.

Hi mate, I am trying to replace the compensation spring on an old Hayter 41 (306r) but finding it impossible to pull the spring and hook it back over the nut. Have you got any videos where you show how it is done, I cant find any easily or could you do a special one as a tips and hints? Would be very grateful, not sure if I need a special tool to do it or what and cant afford to take it in to a dealer. Many thanks. Andy

I'm watching you on the tele , my lawnmower's electric. (just kidding it is electric but I already de-rusted, repainted it and sharpened and rebalanced the blade) I also do my car and bike regular maintenance. It might not be worth it economically at first but have you seen the way some of the mecanics work in shops ? My oil filter was overtorqued so much by the dealers mechanic I needed my socket AND a strap to take it off , Drain plug was a pain in the butt to remove (I was concerned for my oil pan) and the crush seal looked like a flower.

Definitely worth changing what Honda call the thermo wax as these fail and cause the Honda GCV auto choke system to not easy start. Honda have now made a brand new replacement to the old GCV engine series which is known as the GCVx series and they have addressed the thermowax autochoke issue.

hi you can fix a bent crank if you basiclly make a gaint thumb screw that fits underneith the mower it works and thats another mower fixed and a acurate crank just use a pointer for checking the wobble of the crank be a perfectionest it pays off worth making have a engineer make it it mite be expenive but at least you can always have it there to go.

I’ve just obtained my 3rd Honda izy and currently restoring it. I have 2 first gens and 1 3rd gen which I swapped the deck on and is a beast of a mower (spits fire sometimes) First Honda izy I had was a 16 inch pre autochoke and it ran and it’s now in the potting shed coming to the end of its life. My other one is waiting for the summer to come out and the 18 inch one is in the shed ready for restoration. Any advice on the cleaning of the carb and fuel? If the engine has had water in the carb will it struggle to turn over ?

Martin just a quick question about my mower, Mountfield HP470 with briggs classic engine ( with a new plastic carb just fitted ). It starts and revs up very high for 4-5 seconds then cuts and won't start for ages. What could be wrong ? Iv Checked around for air leaks, the o-ring onto the intake tube etc, all looks good. It has no throttle control lever, just engine stop/brake.

Hey Martin. Fantastic. I installed the various garkets. Put it all together. Pulled twice and off she went. Running like a filly. 😄 I discovered that whoever had serviced her before had put two of the gaskets upside down. The little holes didn't match the channel. And the choke 'arm' or wire or whatever was hooked up in the wrong hole. Anyway she runs well now and has only minimal rust as I am in a dry area. Thanks for the tip. Bless ya.
