I am probably one of the few who use my Grand Cherokee off-road, not so much by choice but for work I need to tow a trailer with all my equipment to various jobsite that are sometimes several miles from any paved roads. I have been extremely impressed how capable it was getting over some decent sized rocks, and deep mud all while towing around 3000 pounds. Everything is stock except the tires which are all terrain Goodyear Wranglers.

It's just that prices are much higher than just three years ago. My dad's '18 Trailhawk started at $43K. It jumped to $47K by '21 and this new one is $51,270. It's like $9K more now (including the below). New platform, more refined, but practically, there's not a lot of difference in features. And the drivetrain is carry-over! Add the V8 and lux group and you're pushing $60K for TH. Plus, in '18 they didn't charge for paint ($400 now), and destination charge is obviously a profit center ($1800 now, $1100 in '18). Unreasonable gouging for what cannot be described as Toyota levels of quality. No thanks.

I think you're wrong about the rear diff locker, Tommy. Would you mind checking with Jeep to be sure? I'm quite sure it's the same as the WK and WK2, which is LSD normally, but when in 4Lo, the computer will eventually lock it if needed. So, it's a combo LSD/Auto Locker. And I'd still rather have my WJ for off-roading. :-)

I was so interested in the new trailhawk... untill Jeep released the options for it on their website, the trailhawk cannot be speced with the high end equipment (such as HUD and the like) which is the stuff I really wanted in a new JGC but I wouldnt get another JGC unless it was the trailhawk, currently have a 2016 Limited with 2.5" lift larger tires and some minor additions to take on tougher trails, seems like it will be better to just get a 2020 or 2021 trailhawk CPO for much less.

2:35 that’s because a locker biases torque. If you lift a wheel it can no longer generate torque so the opposite wheel develops 100% of the drive torque. . It transfers torque the same way as a locker. Just uses friction instead of interference to provide the lockup. So the Jeep ELSD will provide 100% of torque so long as it doesn’t exceed the lockup strength which was very high on the WK and WKii
@johnnavitsky7273

and if only they’d bring back the front ELSD like on the wj and wk. sigh
@KTMcaptain
@KTMcaptain 2 жыл бұрын
@@johnnavitsky7273 That really made the system Jeep best 4wd. Yeah the rubi had lockers, but the WK QDII would auto lock on the fly and even with 33s and pretty extreme loads wouldn't slip. I wish the Wrangler/Gladiator had a higher level trim that had 3 auto ELSDs. Not a rubi model, since that's more hardcore use, but a system where if the steering wheel is straight in rock crawl model it would lock all 3 diffs, but once the steering angle is put in the front diff unlocks progressively while the rear diff unlocks much slower.

I’m pretty sure there’s no 3/8 steel anywhere on the JGC, Trailhawk or otherwise.. I wish they had included a version of the Bronco’s Trail Turn Assist.. While I am not a huge fan of the overall size on the new GC increasing both in width and length, I commend Jeep for adding some off-road goodness and all around capability to it. Really pleased to see the Grand Cherokee maintaining good off-road credibility for what the platform is. Tommy - has TFL ever asked Jeep why they didn't bring back the solid axles on the Grand Cherokee? I get most driving is on-road and the independent suspension is more comfortable, but I used to have a WJ Overland and currently have a WK2 Overland and honestly have never noticed any major difference while on-road between those two.

@@byronlarson5534 Totally. Have a Wrangler too so they already got me. I'm sure the answer ultimately is Jeep just wanted to optimize for on-road driving but having owned both a WJ and a WK2, I don't notice any major difference in the on-road ride - so for me I'd love to just be able to ask Jeep, given that lack of noticeable difference in the on road drive between the IS and solid axle, why not keep the solid axles for better off-roading too. Ya know in response to what you said, that it’s not real off-roading because they wouldn’t put it in a situation that it couldn’t handle. - Most of the time, with other manufacturers, I absolutely agree. The places they take you guys, is better described as a dirt road, than off roading. - This however…. I think we have to give credit where credit is due. that’s a serious terrain. Any one off roading there would have spotters guiding them. That doesn’t cheapen what it’s done, or where its driving. - Kudos to Jeep!

@@byronlarson5534 yes you are right, but I'm not talking about total chassis articulation. Look at how much the front suspension can move on those things. Most Taco owners when removing the front sway bar, have to get longer brake lines because of how far the front wheels can now move. They can stuff front wheels into the wheelwells

Does anyone know the reliability of the 3.6 litre? Have the company turned the corner and not producing inferior engines?

The 3.6l Pentastar is as reliable as they come and has proven itself over the years.

As Jeep SLOWLY desensitizes Wrangler owners to like independent suspension ;-). I actually think it's a fact that ALL Jeeps have fully independent suspension except for the Wrangler.

Disappointed in Jeep not offering the more off road capable quadratrac II system as an option on lower end models. I realize not everyone needs or wants it but for anyone that does actually want to go off road, you have to spend a lot more to get a higher line model.

For me, the definition of a Jeep includes 4x4, a high and low range transfer case, tow hooks front and rear, skid plates and at least a limited slip axle in the rear. Sing range and no tow hooks, disqualified!

Why is everybody sweating about a sway bar disconnect on a $59,000 SUV when Wranglers go to $100,000.

Just like a Landover... 3rd owner will be the one taking it off road... Cherokee trail hawk does come with a real rear locker... And last gen had rock rails... 🤔🤔🤔

Am I the only one that hates the rotary shifter dial? I disliked it years ago when RAM was using it on their trucks and now it seems most new vehicles are doing it. It looks like a hockey puck.

After one year now, I’m kinda used to it. Not a big fan of all the electronics. But one of these days (when not paying attention) I’m going to put my truck thru the garage wall instead of backing out. I know it’s coming.

The worst offender here is Lincoln. They have piano key- like buttons under the infotainment screen for the gear selector. And it's not just one car, it's all of them. I wonder how much space they'll create in the center console, and why they feel their customers really need space there.

I really like that puck now. It frees up a ton of interior space. I've had my Ram 1500 for just over a year now and it's a great vehicle. Very very happy with it.

No, thank you. I’ll rather buy a Toyota Tundra TRD Pro or a 4 Runner TRD Pro for that price, something reliable and dependable. Had a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 Altitude package, bought it brand new and it started to give me problems at 6k miles. Ended up trading it in at 22,000 miles cause it was already leaking oil from the engine and got a 2021 4Runner Limited night shade edition and my wife loves it, haven’t had any problems with it as of now with 9k miles like the Jeep!!!!.
