As a senior, it makes sense to look at the CX90 as a comfortable 4 seater with 2 captains chairs in the 2nd row and a large tailgate area with the 3rd row seats down...the S preferred trim has the 2nd row captains chairs with nothing between them...this allows for an open area between the two seats which women prefer for their purses...If you look at the torque curves between the two engines, the S version has a wide, flat torque band, while the basic engine's peak torque is over a narrower band...this means the actual power difference is much greater than the specs would indicate...in real world driving both engines should feel the same starting from a full stop...around town there should see no practical difference...the big difference would be felt in merging on the highway and in passing where the S version would be much safer providing a larger margin for safe maneuvers.

Thanks for that explanation. My feeling is that Mazda wants buyers to use premium gas to get the best performance out for this engine, which is what it is optimized for. Most buyers, however, would rather just use regular, hence why Mazda designed a lower output version for the lower trims.

all Mazda products are on my next buying vehicle list regardless of Sedans or SUVs if it's AWD. it's on my shopping list. I'm a Toyota owner for the second time. my plan is to change brands BUT .without sacrificing reliability level. and Mazda still trying to hold on to the old-school engineering/powertrain style. inline V6 engine that is amazing. no CVT. OR Turbo !! that is even awesome. you're correct that other brands need to pay attention Mazda is doing it perfectly so far. Toyota just moved from the V6 to 4 cyl combined with the Turbo setup. and honestly not sure about that move. Toyota makes solid reliable Vehicles but time will tell on the Turbo.

Might be BS, but I heard that it's due to weight requirements (enviromental ones). The extra seat weight apparently would put it over the top on some metric vs. other extra stuff in the higher trims? Someone else could probably elaborate better than me.

I presently drive a 2021 Lexus RX350 and when my lease is up next year I am anxious to see the soon-to-be released CX-70 since I don't need a 3-row SUV. If it's anything like the C-90 I will take a hard look at it, particularly now that Lexus has ditched the V6 for a turbo 4.

I'm on the same boat. I have a 2017 Rx and considering the Mazda cx90 but I'm hesitant, somehow it feels like a downgrade and the resale value is. It as good. Will be test driving it in may. There's almost $20k difference between the cx90 and 2023 Rx, both top of the line.

One of my favourite new autos is the Mazda CX 90. Right up there with the luxury brands like X5 from BMW. Much like what I had with my RX-7 it really felt like a car that can keep up with luxury brands like Porsche. Mazda certainly makes many cars a cut above the average cars in the same price range. CX 90 is one of them!

Thanks for the review. I am very interested in the smaller CX-70 that is to come. Do you think because it will be a little smaller that we would get slightly better mpg vs this CX90? Also in regard to the PHEV, I was looking at electricity costs in the northeast US and in some places, it is costing more to charge than to gas up. Even if charging were a little cheaper, would it still be a benefit to go that route? I feel that a 4-cyl turbo would be more prone to problems than a 6. Also regular repair costs would be more with the phev. I wanted to know your input on this to see if I am far off. Thank you.
@carhelpcorner
@carhelpcorner Жыл бұрын
Can't comment on the CX-70 yet. As for the PHEV, it does not use a turbo 4-cyl. It uses the same naturally aspirated Skyactiv-G 2.5L engine from other Mazdas. It is a very well proven and reliable engine so the PHEV should be a safe choice. In most regions, electricity rates are far lower during off peak hours which is when most EV owners charge.

Does anyone know if this engine uses a timing belt, chain, or gears? I don't think any reviewer has mentioned this yet. Also, is it direct injection or port and direct injection? Because I keep my cars 10+ years, these two things are issues for me. It is a shame that I can't get a 2nd-row bench seat in the upper trim levels. What's up with that? This one issue will probably cause me to have to cross this off my list 😞which is sad because I really like this vehicle! I totally agree that they should have done what the Pilot/MDX do with their 2nd-row: have a removeable center seat position so owners can seat 3 people when needed. Maybe Mazda will put a slightly larger battery and a more powerful electric motor to give the mild hybrid more grunt when starting up from a start. I was hoping for more performance, a la BMW X5/X7. One last question - is there a way (in a menu, or via a switch somewhere) to turn off the piped-in engine sound? I prefer to hear the induction noise without supplementation.

I think there is some risk with any automaker introducing a new drivetrain, but Mazda's reputation for reliability is far better than most, so I would say the risk is lower than most others. There's a video somewhere showing the 340hp cx90 vs BMW X5 and a Merc. At the end they also add the palisade to the mix. the CX90 with 340 HP barely beats the palisade on acceleration. Guess the basic 280HP will get smoked by a Hyundai. 280HP for a very heavy car are not enough. If you remove the Germans, where you get a lot more HPs, Palisade, Pilot, Telluride, Atlas are all lighter cars with same/more HPs. This forces you to opt for the CX-90 S with 340hp especially if you have usually 3-4 people in the car. Then it becomes a $10k difference or more vs those other brands. Also, NOBODY ever says that Mazda has one of the worst warranties out there. 3yrs full warranty is pretty bad these days esp. versus competitors.

Japanese warranty is definitely lower than Korean, true Anyway, all cars have tradeoffs. Korean car interiors usually look too arcade style except for the Genesis, Mazda is bringing more elegant interior for lower cost than BMW. They are competing with luxury cars with the added benefit of durability, since European cars break down fast and have rock bottom resale value just like American ones
