M scott.. ok man i just want to reply to you (not hate or anything) just hear me a bit : do any Tesla have a pre-heated battery pack ? those are also sealed water-proof ? why? will you ask me but this is very important specially for European climate because the pre-heated battery feature help the car in winter under cold freezing temperatures, some people from Norway, Sweeden, Finland owners of Tesla posted clips on KZfaq with S and X models stuck to wait for the tow truck on the side of the roads in heavy cold winters because the battery pack is not pre-heated or heated in any way at all during the cold winter period, so the battery would drained (empty faster) to try focus to use all the energy for the propulsion, not to mention the struggle for other heat options like defrosted windscreen, heat blowers in the cabin and also for the electronics in the car.. and because the battery pack is not sealed properly since many different Tesla models start to be seen more often to Co-Parts junkyards because battery pack is not sealed properly water flooded inside the battery pack get a short cut which affect the entire electric system in the car and that will cost allot to be replaced. Tesla won't do it usually in such cases the owners calls they detect the issue release documentation and delete the car from up-date program that means the car can be scrapped destroyed or by the opportunist junkers used it to sell under auctions for parts (if Tesla would try to fix it.. they would charge you expensive amount money see on youtube - 'rich rebuilds channel' because on such cases it need to be replace entire electric circuits and all affected electrical components systems + a new battery pack).. so anyway is also pretty annoying each time when you want to do something quick in Tesla you must look at the stupid big screen to search in the many different options adjustments to find certain settings, that should be no problem in the i-pace since it have 3 smaller screens very easy to be read and some simple to use controls common placed for natural and simplistic use, overall i-pace is more balanced is not small like Tesla 3, it is not lower like S and can do a bit off-road but is not as big expensive as some X models.. is kinda in the middle, incorporate many cool stuff in a decent size vehicle.. regarding charging points you right but remember that for Tesla 3 you do not have free supercharging so, anyway in US Tesla obviously rules but across Europe i think this i-pace is worth to be considered since many auto brands started from last year (after the diesel-gate scandal) joined forces in partnership to conceive a form to support building charging points stations for EV vehicles with a certain support from all-EU governments of the countries of Europe that means each country is required by EU committee to help build strategical placed in all key points for each country a certain amount of charging stations depending how big each country is also depending of relief and the available infrastructure, in such way so that allow EV cars owners to travel from West to East of Europe without any worry that can not find charging stations.. (now i will tell you that i live in Croatia and i think it was in 2009-2010 a man from Holland (i think it was a doctor ..) did get a Tesla Roadster first model and i think he was on holiday or something but it actually did that kind of journey with his Tesla Roadster, he went from Holland -Germany-Austria-Slovenia-Croatia-Montenegro-Serbia-Bulgaria-Turkey and then to Cyprus island and back i know since he returned back and i met him on both ways he stopped a day in Croatia), but remember back then Tesla didn't have to many superchargers across all Europe just few on West but so he did it..) hey man, look this is my opinion if you happen to be an Tesla owner in USA be happy with your car.. here in Europe to put now an deposit and order for a Tesla 3 can take more than 1,5 years if not more to actually get the car and with no financial support from govern for any Tesla products is really hard to reach to them here in Europe, a Jaguar i-Pace in basic version cost in my country 65.000 euro but with govern support for clean green vehicles, if you also destroy an old car for example you get a discount voucher that is a cut off from the overall price, also get a start bonus insurance for registering a new clean vehicle and other bonuses deductions the i-Pace price dropped to 46,500 euro and wait no more than 2 months to get the car.. (and that is a price and a time delivery i can actually live with) so now i hope you see with different eyes based on these arguments, why for different parts of this world this new electric vehicle can be better than Tesla. ;0)

Well, you bring up points that mostly weren't addressed in this review, which was what I was responding to. But I'm happy to address your points, too. Yes, Teslas have battery heaters, and from the videos I've seen, the i-Pace works pretty much the same way as Teslas have for at least the last 6 months. (Thanks to a software update last winter.) When you pre-condition the cabin (i.e., turning on the heat from the app), it will also warm the battery if it's very cold. It won't, however, warm the battery if the car is not plugged in and the battery is below a certain SOC (20% maybe?). After all, it doesn't do you a lot of good to burn the rest of your battery heating it. I have seen nothing that suggests Jaguar has done a better job at managing battery temperature than Tesla does. (And there is even a dedicated battery pre-heat feature on the P100D but that's for getting the most power out of the battery for launching, not for cold-weather.) I don't know exactly how well sealed Tesla's batteries are, but they certainly aren't "unsealed." There are some pretty impressive videos of Teslas driving through deep water, just search "tesla driving through water" on KZfaq. I honestly don't know how the two compare. Regarding the touch screen, I think that's a matter of personal taste. I think Tesla has done a great job of making the stuff you need while driving readily available. But it can be annoying to use a touch screen while driving on a bumpy road, so I get that physical buttons might be preferred by some. As for charging infrastructure, non-Tesla charging stations are clearly being built in Europe much faster than they are in the US, so that will make less of a difference to potential EV purchasers in Europe than it will in the US. But one of the biggest areas of push-back from people not already used to an EV is the charging time and ease of locating charging while traveling long distances. Early adopters (like your Roaster owner example) will deal with the extra hassle because it's part of being a trailblazer. But the mass market certainly won't. The USA is also a lot larger that Europe geographically, and has very large, rural areas with limited infrastructure that won't see significant public charging for the better part of a decade. (A town with only one gas station is not likely to see a fast charging station anytime soon. But unlike in Europe, small towns in the US west are often 40+ miles apart, with nothing but farmland in between. ) I agree that the i-Pace is a very different vehicle than any that Tesla currently offers. I was calling out the reviewers for their Tesla comparisons, which were questionable at best. I'm not dis'ing the i-Pace at all (other than the fake engine sounds ;-). I think it's a promising new EV that fits in between the Model 3 and Model S/X. I'm sure Jaguar will sell all they can make. I am not trying to say that the i-Pace is a bad EV, or even that Teslas are better. It was the premise of this review that was trying to make some dubious points so they could put "Tesla" in the title and get a lot more clicks. But it's pretty obvious that Jaguar has a great vehicle here, and I'm very pleased for that. Personally, I'd still buy a Tesla because I live in the US and that charging network matters, and I love the clutter (button)-free interior. The price difference between the i-Pace and Model S 75D is not going to be a significant factor for people who can afford these cars, so I think these cars' features will drive their purchasing decisions. I hope that lots of people pick the i-Pace, it seems like worthy vehicle. (I also hope Porsche sells a ton of Taycans, another very promising new EV.)

i was responded to you since you did pointed some strong facts and because i 'm in the interest to purchase such vehicle in near future but i'm not in urgent need since now is the re-birth of EV sector many other brands started to show new ideas, new concepts and for instance i also seen the latest i.D. concepts from Volkswagen since they learn a harsh lesson and want to re-gain the brand image after massive diesel-gate scandal.. anyway interest on such cars is still rising so i think this sector will grow quick in 1-2 year top.. so i will check them out prospecting the best convenient deal to replace my wife car.. so i just stated what facts i hear about so far and i hope to see better stuff, attractive offers and more diverse products, you know the market is big, so the offer should fit each budget.. i guess we will find out latter what model will really worth by the volumes of the sells too.. ;0)

The artificial engine noise only defaults to 'on' in Dynamic mode, and can be switched off even in Dynamic mode. Supposedly the 200kmh/124mph top speed is electronically limited, down from 250kmh/155mph, due to the drop in range at high velocities. Personally, I seldom go on roads with a limit higher than 124mph - on British roads, if you are caught at 100mph or faster, you instantly lose your driving licence. Where the speed limits are higher, range is teh probem. The big-battery Model X uses 390 Watts/mi at an average of 48mph. I do not know how much higher the consumption is above 1204mph - but it will be a lot. About chargers, a couple of months ago, there were no CCS public chargers in the USA above 75kW (although over 1,100 locations had 50kW CCS rapid chargers). Today, there are a dozen 350kW chargers, and another dozen 150kW chargers, live in the US. The number is small now, but the roll-out has begun, and will accelerate. And, it's worth noting, that all of these chargers are faster than the fastest-available Superchargers. And Superchargers themselves only produce their peak speed if you get two stalls all to yourself.

As much as people deride Jaguar for the time they were owned by Ford, the reliability improved greatly. Have had 0 issues with my 2007 X-Type other than wear and tear items and annual servicing.

i also read on official Jaguar site that on cold winters (low temperature) the i-Pace battery pack is pre-heated before the car actually can be operated, that is very good news a Tesla do not have that (not even as optional feature) as i watched many owners from Norway who brought S and X and complained this because they got stuck because the battery worked harder and drained quicker in freezing cold temperatures, this feature also keep the life of battery pack longer than without it.. so all such small facts counts when it's time to change the normal vehicle to swap it to an full EV..

Yes, the Jag battery pack survives temps of -40F/-40C, and can be charged in temperatures as low as -32C. It also will use mains power to bring the pack up to operating temperature.

l wouldn't take the risk, that much power being around water is not a good idea even if the entire pack is forged from silicone.

Just FYI, the i-Pace is WAY smaller than Model X and has totally different proportions. I understand that the two are compared due to all-electric-ness, but size wise, this is like comparing a Subaru XV Crosstrek with an Audi Q7. Also, there are a lot of reasons, but I'd go for the Tesla for the sake of the Supercharger network alone. I want to be able to travel anywhere in my SUV. Excited to see the i-Pace hit the streets though!

Jorge Tamacas .. Jaguar gives you a 5 year or 60,000 miles of warranty and going offroad and wading don't void it's warrenty .Tesl has a half baked Autopilot and wading will void it's warrenty plus it has panel gaps so Jaguar is a better option.

It has to be better than the likes of Teslas...Model S owners with mileage past 75K were having 80% of those vehicles having had entire powertrains replaced, at least once...some multiple times. So far those were done within warranty limits. Somewhere in a warehouse in Tesla-land, there are thousands of motors & powertrains.....maybe they were "rebuilt", & carted off to the factory...& put into "new" ones...ya' never know?

Well, are internal combustion engined-cars (ICEs) reliable in the long run? These cars have fewer moving parts, less of the car needs routine servicing. Things like the suspension and the driveshaft gaiters will be just like an ICE - but the drivetrain will need radically less routine servicing - e.g. no more needing a new cambelt every 5 years. Basically engine and gearbox issues have gone, and motor, control electronics and battery pack is likely to be more reliable than an engine, gearbox and its control electronics.

That is an optional feature and is not glass is a clear polycarbonate-reinforced-plastic something used in aviation purposes because it's light material and much more tough than glass..

eatadickorsomeum I'd buy it because it looks normal, inside and out. I like the whole idea of electric vehicles but I absolutely hate the dashboard in all the Teslas. Yup, I'm simple. I just don't see the point of having a giant screen to have to dick around with to do even the simplest things. Going into the menu to open the glove box? What a clusterfuck!

I pinged TFLCar.com and Mike replied that Roman is about 6' 2", so at 6' 4", the back seat of the I-Pace would probably be somewhat of a tight fit for me, if someone similarly tall was in front - both in legroom and headroom. Still, it's probably do-able.

Jaguar showed a concept all electric car years using a motor for each wheel (Which is a much better way to do things than the brake assisted 'torque vectoring' available in just about all cars with electronic stability control) before Tesla even existed. At the time Jaguar's reliability and cost of ownership was so bad it makes current Teslas look good though. Jaguar seem to have got somewhat better since Ford explained what quality control meant while they owned them. Still astronomical money for what looks like very little interior space compared to my Skoda estate.

Don’t forget the network of superchargers right on the regular interstate that would use normally. And the network is so big and reliable that you could go coast to coast. Even into Mexico and Canada.

Yes, I think the iPace only gets 240 miles for $70,000 even though the battery is much larger than the Tesla S 75D.

The average consumer doesn't have $80 000 to spend on a car or the money to keep one of these running in 5 years time when second hand ones will be affordable. One of the reasons Tesla owners haven't class action law suited the company is because most of their customers already own more than one car, so it's no big deal when it dies.

Considering that the F-Pace and E-Pace share some of Land Rover's offroading technology, I'm sure there's bound to be an all-electric Land Rover in the pipeline.

My XKRs and current F-Type have been reliable - you're living in the past if you think Jags aren't reliable. But hey, miss out on great cars if you want to.

Only downside of electric is if you run out of charge in the middle of nowhere it's not as easy as having a jerrycan of fuel in the back, but then again I've driven my FWD car on trails similar to a lot of the off road course they were using in the video without problems, so I'll need to see a proper test (Once they ditch the ridiculous 22's and put proper tyres on) before it qualifies as anything more than a jacked up car. With no air intake apart from for the passenger vents, I wonder what the fording depth on it is.

It's not impressive, but it's much better then eGolf, Leaf, Bolt, etc, which top out below 100. But honestly this is irrelevant in the US.

I still don't get the obsession with top speed, especially in a crossover or SUV. The VW Tiguan 2.0 TSI has a top speed of 130 mph, so the I-Pace is not that far off.

124mph top speeed is somewhat irrelevant fora nelectric car. Jag have restricted the top speed to help preserve range. MotorTrend took it up to 124mph on the Autobahn, and used 6 miles of range just going from 80mph to 124pmh.

i was just sitting here saying how much i loved the Jaguar but there is really no charging structure for it. yeah there is chargers all over the place but no GPS that will route you to them without you having to actually look for it like the tesla. im a huge tesla fan but just based on the supercharger network i think the tesla takes the win. also the tesla model x can seat seven and i have a family of 6. i have to also go where the room is.

It's hard to compare the efficiencies atm. - some people have already bought their i-Pace. - I expect the Model Y won't make it to US customers before 2021, and to European markets in RHD before 2024. Some people might be on their third i-Pace by then.
